Apple iOS 26 beta 3 update is out now and it dials back Liquid Glass look for more clarity

India Today08-07-2025
Whatever Apple does, there's usually a lot of thought behind it. And that was certainly the case with iOS 26 and its all-new Liquid Glass design. But this time, Apple may have gone a bit too far. The visual style, which aimed to introduce a more translucent and layered aesthetic, hasn't quite landed well with users. Many have found it harder to read text and navigate comfortably. After growing feedback and criticism from early testers, Apple has decided to make some changes. In the latest iOS 26 Beta 3 update, the company has rolled out a series of tweaks and bug fixes. But more importantly, it has quietly toned down some of the key design elements of Liquid Glass, dialling back the Liquid Glass look in certain areas for more clarity.advertisementSome of the most noticeable changes are visible in apps like Apple Music, Podcasts and the App Store, where navigation bars now appear more solid and less see-through. Safari has also received a similar treatment with reduced transparency when certain colour themes are applied. Notifications too, are easier to read now, with a darker background being used to help text stand out more clearly. Not everyone is happy with this update, though. While some users are relieved that Apple is improving readability, others feel the company is watering down the unique look of iOS 26. Still, these changes feel like a step towards balance — retaining the fresh new design while also making it practical for daily use.Apple has also made small adjustments to the Control Center, tweaking the colours of icons like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop and Mobile Data to appear brighter and more in sync with the overall UI. The default iOS 26 wallpaper now comes with new colour variants, including Halo, Dusk, Sky and Shadow, each offering slightly different tones in Light and Dark Mode.
Over on iPads running iPadOS 26, Apple has added a new gesture that makes the cursor grow bigger when shaken, similar to the way it works on Macs. The Maps app now supports fog advisories while using offline maps and can better alert users about commute delays. Safari has received minor changes to the folders interface, too.As for rollout, the stable iOS 26 update is expected to be released in September as a free update for iPhone 11 and newer models. If you're a developer, you can already try out Beta 3 through the Apple Developer Programme. For everyone else, Apple plans to release a public beta very soon via the Beta Software Programme.- Ends

Samsung Electronics signs $16.5 billion deal to make chips for global firm

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics said on Monday it has signed a $16.5 billion deal to supply chips for an unidentified major global company, sending its shares up 3.5%. The South Korean tech giant said the deal signed on Saturday was for contract chip manufacturing and details of the agreement including the counterpart and terms would not be disclosed until the contract is completed at the end of 2033. The deal comes as Samsung is struggling to compete in the race to make artificial intelligence chips, which has hit its profits and share price. Samsung has customers like Tesla and Qualcomm for its foundry business, while bigger rival TSMC has customers like Apple and Nvidia. The deal comes as South Korea is seeking U.S. partnerships in chips and shipbuilding as it is making last-ditch efforts to reach a trade deal to eliminate or cut potential 25% U.S. tariffs. It is not clear how the order would affect Samsung's plan to start production at its new factory in Texas, which has been delayed as it had struggled to win major customers. Samsung is grappling to boost production yields of its latest 2-nanometer technology, and the order is unlikely to involve the cutting-edge tech, Lee Min-hee, an analyst at BNK Investment & Securities, said. Samsung has been losing market share to TSMC in contract manufacturing , underscoring technological challenges the firm faces in mastering advanced chip manufacturing to lure the likes of Apple and Nvidia away from TSMC, analysts said.
