The new variants, which are called Halo, Dusk, Sky, and Shadow, include various blue tones and one with purple undertones. In Dark Mode, these wallpapers exhibit more pronounced colour changes. The blue and green icons for the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, and cellular toggles in Control Centre have been slightly brightened by Apple. The modified colours now more closely resemble the visual design of the rest of the system. Apple iOS 26 beta 3: How to download? Apple iOS 26 beta 3 update is out now and it dials back Liquid Glass look for more clarity
Whatever Apple does, there's usually a lot of thought behind it. And that was certainly the case with iOS 26 and its all-new Liquid Glass design. But this time, Apple may have gone a bit too far. The visual style, which aimed to introduce a more translucent and layered aesthetic, hasn't quite landed well with users. Many have found it harder to read text and navigate comfortably. After growing feedback and criticism from early testers, Apple has decided to make some changes. In the latest iOS 26 Beta 3 update, the company has rolled out a series of tweaks and bug fixes. But more importantly, it has quietly toned down some of the key design elements of Liquid Glass, dialling back the Liquid Glass look in certain areas for more of the most noticeable changes are visible in apps like Apple Music, Podcasts and the App Store, where navigation bars now appear more solid and less see-through. Safari has also received a similar treatment with reduced transparency when certain colour themes are applied. Notifications too, are easier to read now, with a darker background being used to help text stand out more clearly. Not everyone is happy with this update, though. While some users are relieved that Apple is improving readability, others feel the company is watering down the unique look of iOS 26. Still, these changes feel like a step towards balance — retaining the fresh new design while also making it practical for daily has also made small adjustments to the Control Center, tweaking the colours of icons like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop and Mobile Data to appear brighter and more in sync with the overall UI. The default iOS 26 wallpaper now comes with new colour variants, including Halo, Dusk, Sky and Shadow, each offering slightly different tones in Light and Dark Mode. Over on iPads running iPadOS 26, Apple has added a new gesture that makes the cursor grow bigger when shaken, similar to the way it works on Macs. The Maps app now supports fog advisories while using offline maps and can better alert users about commute delays. Safari has received minor changes to the folders interface, for rollout, the stable iOS 26 update is expected to be released in September as a free update for iPhone 11 and newer models. If you're a developer, you can already try out Beta 3 through the Apple Developer Programme. For everyone else, Apple plans to release a public beta very soon via the Beta Software Programme.- Ends

Apple turns up the speed on Podcasts and adds a new emoji game to News
Apple's next major software updates are getting a huge new feature for playback speed sickos like me: you'll be able to listen to shows on the Podcasts app at as much as 3x speed, Apple notes in a press release about new services features. Previously, the maximum was 2x. You can move to super speed from the podcast play screen in the Podcast app, but you'll have to do a little bit of work to get there, based on my testing in the first iOS 26 developer beta. When you tap the playback speed button, a small popup appears that shows buttons for a few different speeds: 0.8, 1, 1.3, 1.5, 1.8, and 2. To more finely adjust playback speeds or access ones faster than 2x, you need to swipe on the buttons to get to a dial. The popup also includes a new 'Enhance Dialogue' option that you can tap on or off. 'Using real-time audio processing and machine learning, users can turn on Enhance Dialogue to hear speech more clearly over background sounds,' according to Apple's press release. With Apple's new suite of updates, Apple News Plus subscribers will get access to a new daily puzzle game called Emoji Game. ' Emoji Game brings to life one of users' favorite ways to communicate in a fun and engaging way, with players challenged to use emoji to complete three phrases, with the goal of solving the puzzle in as few moves as possible,' Apple says. I'm not an Apple News Plus subscriber, but I do love emoji and puzzle games, so I might have to check this out. In the press release, Apple also highlights some features that appeared in Monday's WWDC 2025 keynote, including updated boarding passes with Live Activities and the ability to make a 'Digital ID' in your Apple Wallet with a US passport.
