Alabama Football: 2025 Crimson Tide Season Preview and Prediction
Alabama Football: 2025 Crimson Tide Season Preview and Prediction originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Alabama fans were willing to cut coach Kalen DeBoer some slack for a 9-4 debut season after he navigated a transition from Nick Saban that shocked players and sent some key pieces to the transfer portal. But there is only so much patience in Tuscaloosa, where winning national championships is the standard. There is greater comfort and stability around Alabama in 2025, but expectations have risen accordingly.

Previewing Alabama's Offense for 2025
Addition by subtraction? That's the question for Alabama as it transitions away from Jalen Milroe at quarterback after two seasons. Milroe's electric running ability, especially in the red zone, was a staple of the Tide's offense the past two seasons. But the passing game was inconsistent and a far cry from what Bryce Young, Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa had produced in previous seasons.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer spent the spring evaluating his three options to replace Milroe — fourth-year junior Ty Simpson, third-year sophomore Austin Mack and 5-star freshman Keelon Russell — and said he wanted a 'playmaker' and not just a game manager. DeBoer is also reunited with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who called plays for a Washington attack that produced some of the nation's top passing numbers behind Michael Penix Jr. If Alabama can find a more capable passer to replace Milroe, it has one of the most talented receiver rooms in the country — led by superstar Ryan Williams — to catch those passes.

Previewing Alabama's Defense for 2025
Alabama returns much of its starting defense from last season, the result of several players opting out of the NFL Draft to play an additional year in college. That gives second-year coordinator Kane Wommack a solid base to build upon with a group that improved as the 2024 season progressed. Alabama's defense struggled in a loss to Vanderbilt last season, but it was hard to blame that side of the ball for losses against Tennessee, Oklahoma or Michigan.

Getting linebacker Deontae Lawson (torn ACL) and safety Keon Sabb (broken foot) back after season-ending injuries will be a big boost for a unit that is loaded with veterans and potential 2026 NFL Draft picks.

Previewing Alabama's Specialists for 2025
Alabama will have a new group of specialists in 2025. Replacing James Burnip, who became one of the nation's best punters, will be the biggest challenge, and the Tide plucked Colorado School of Mines punter Blake Doud from Division II as one option. Conor Talty, one of the nation's top high school kickers two years ago, will get his chance for Alabama after sitting behind Will Reichard and then Graham Nicholson the past two seasons. Cal transfer David Bird is the new long-snapper.

UFC Star Sean Strickland Storms Cage and Brawls With Fighter Who Beat His Teammate (Video)
UFC Star Sean Strickland Storms Cage and Brawls With Fighter Who Beat His Teammate (Video) originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland remains one of the UFC's most unpredictable and volatile fighters outside of the cage. He has a notorious reputation for speaking his mind no matter how offensive his thoughts may be, and an even more notorious reputation for engaging in antics and drama outside of the Octagon. Advertisement Recently, Strickland and his longtime teammate Chris Curtis engaged in a post-fight brawl at Tuff-N-Uff 145 after their training partner, Miles Hunsinger, was submitted by unbeaten MMA prospect Luis Hernandez. Chris Unger-GettyImages The fight ignited when Hernandez, following his standing guillotine choke victory, taunted Strickland and Curtis with obscene gestures, which led to the two UFC veterans storming the cage and fighting him. Before the fight could get any uglier, officials and the security team intervened. Here is a clip of the incident: Strickland, who has a history of volatile behavior outside the Octagon, could face potential disciplinary action from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). As a licensed cornerman, he could be suspended from cornering pending an investigation into prohibited acts and disciplinary actions. Advertisement The UFC has yet to comment, but CEO Dana White should address the situation soon, given Strickland's high-profile status. Hernandez, meanwhile, remains undefeated and unapologetic. The Florida native, known for his brash persona, has a history of flashy finishes, including a three-second head kick KO in 2023. His post-fight antics were clearly intended to provoke, and they succeeded—drawing Strickland and Curtis into a brawl that has now gone viral. Already coming off two title fight losses to du Plessis, Strickland was expected to return to the Octagon later this year. However, if he faces disciplinary action for his conduct, his comeback could be delayed indefinitely. Curtis, who has lost four of his last five fights, may also face repercussions. Caitlin Clark Turns Heads at Fever Practice on Sunday
Caitlin Clark Turns Heads at Fever Practice on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been struggling to stay on the court this season, missing five games with a left quad injury and another two games more recently with a groin injury. Injuries are nothing unusual in sports, of course, but they are for Clark -- before this season, she had never missed a game with an injury. not in the pros as a rookie last year or even in four seasons in college at Iowa. Advertisement Given the fact that she also missed a game with a leg injury in the preseason, this does appear part of a concerning pattern with Clark, and there is concern that perhaps she is rushing back onto the floor too quickly. The Fever certainly want to avoid that. As coach Stephanie White said on Friday, "Anybody who's had some of these types of injuries understands that sometimes it's a process. She's a quick healer, and she's been doing everything she can to get back on the floor. We just want to make sure we're hyper-sensitive to the big picture." Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22)Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Given that she has already missed so much time, it might be too late for that. Advertisement Still, the Fever are holding steady at 8-8 this season, and Clark is listed as a day-to-day situation, which means she could well be back on the floor when the Fever take the floor on Tuesday in the Commissioner's Cup final against Minnesota. If there is a reason to hope, it's that Clark was back on the floor on Sunday in Indiana, taking part in the Fever's practice. Clark was wearing compression tights on both legs, as rpeorter Scott Agness pointed out. The hope is that Clark can play in Minnesota on Thursday for the Cup title. After that game, Indiana returns home for a game on Thursday against the Aces, which marks a stretch of five straight home games during which the Fever hope to firm up their place in the standings. .
