She later revealed that she was offered both female protagonists' roles—Veronica and Meera. It was Imtiaz who urged her to take up the unconventional Veronica. While talking about Imtiaz Ali, she shared, 'He told me Meera was something similar to what I had done already."
Reflecting on the role, Deepika once said, 'I've always believed that while you put a little part of yourself in every character you play, you also carry a part of that character with you forever. And therefore, Veronica will always be one of the most special characters I've played on screen—one that changed a lot for me professionally and impacted me personally."
Originally released in 2012, Cocktail was directed by Homi Adajania and starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty in lead roles. The film also featured Boman Irani, Dimple Kapadia, and Randeep Hooda. It is now returning to theatres nearly 13 years after its release.
Back in 2012, the film received widespread acclaim for its direction, costumes, cinematography, and standout performances by the cast. Its soundtrack, composed by Pritam, also earned massive praise.
