Trump Signs ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act': What It Means For Indians And High-Income Americans
Last Updated: The bill, passed by both chambers of Congress, includes several measures that will impact Indian families and workers abroad US President Donald Trump signed into law the 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act" on Friday during a Fourth of July picnic at the White House, bringing sweeping changes to taxes, remittances, and federal spending. The bill, passed by both chambers of Congress, includes several measures that will impact Indian families and workers abroad, as well as raise fresh questions about tax breaks for high-income Americans. 'This is the most patriotic bill ever passed," Trump said during the signing. 'We are putting American families, American jobs, and American values first." Impact On Indians: Remittance Tax One of the bill's key provisions is a 1 per cent levy on international money transfers made by non-US citizens, including green card holders and workers on temporary visas. The tax applies to remittances sent using cash, money orders, or cashier's cheques. India, the world's largest remittance recipient, could be significantly affected. According to the Reserve Bank of India, Indian nationals received $32.9 billion in remittances from the US in 2023-24, accounting for nearly 28 per cent of total inflows. The new levy, even at a reduced rate of 1 per cent — down from an earlier proposed 5 per cent— may strain households in states like Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, where remittances support education, healthcare, and housing. Tax Cuts For The Wealthy The law allows up to $10,000 in interest deductions on loans for buying new American-made vehicles. However, federal tax credits for electric vehicles — which offered up to $7,500 in incentives — will now end in September, four years ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, clean energy tax credits from the Biden era will be phased out entirely by 2028. Defence And Immigration Spending The bill also boosts military and immigration enforcement budgets, with $150 billion allocated for shipbuilding and missile defence, including Trump's 'Golden Dome" project. Another $100 billion has been directed to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to ramp up immigration crackdowns. One campaign promise that did make it through — a tax exemption on service industry tips — was included in the final law. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the new law will add $3.3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade. Notably, for many Indian families reliant on US remittances, even a modest 1 per cent tax could add up. At the same time, the law renews Trump-era tax cuts for the rich, intensifying debates over fiscal priorities and economic equity. Indian stock market set to hit record highs in festive season: Experts
The Indian stock market is poised to hit new record highs in the second half of 2025, especially during the festive season, backed by strong macroeconomic fundamentals and a revival in consumption, according to Ankit Patel, co-founder of Arunasset Investment Services. In an interview with Mint, Patel emphasized the importance of disciplined investing amid ongoing global uncertainties. He identified the pharmaceutical sector as a compelling contra bet, given its undervaluation and long-term potential. H1CY25: A Mixed Bag with a Turnaround The first half of 2025 began on a slower note due to deferred government spending linked to general elections. However, a significant policy shift by the Reserve Bank of India in February—marked by interest rate cuts, liquidity injections, and eased banking regulations—reversed the sentiment. This accommodative stance helped lift the economy, with Q4 FY25 GDP growth clocking in at an impressive 7.4%, showcasing resilience. RBI's massive dividend payout of ₹2.69 lakh crore further improved the fiscal landscape. Outlook for H2CY25 With inflation down to 2.82% and forex reserves remaining strong, India's macroeconomic conditions continue to support equity markets. Moreover, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have turned bullish, pouring in over ₹23,000 crore over the past four months. Patel expects consumption-led growth and sectoral momentum to fuel a festive rally, likely pushing benchmark indices like the Nifty 50 past their previous peaks. Sectoral Insights While IT and banking remain core, Patel highlights pharma as a value pick amid cyclic underperformance. 'It's a classic contra bet with structural tailwinds,' he noted, advising investors to align their strategies with personal goals and risk appetites. As the markets gear up for Q1FY26 earnings, investors should stay focused, avoiding noise and short-term volatility, he added.

Apoorva Mukhija's sassy comment on Uorfi Javed In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Apoorva Mukhija played a game where she was given a name from each of the contestants from The Traitors and had to reveal what came to mind instantly with it. In another excerpt of her revelations, Apoorva was asked about whether she has been approached to participate in the popular reality show series Bigg Boss. The social media star made an interesting response to the question. In her words, 'Yes. I mean, I always say ki never say never. So I would never say do something. But I think just captive reality as a space is very anxiety-inducing, and as a person who already overthinks a lot and has anxiety, it's just tough space to be in.' She added 'But ab paise se kya hai upar duniya mein? Ab paisa hoga toh karlenge. Dekhte hai.' When Apoorva compared Traitors with Bigg Boss In one of her YouTube vlogs a few days ago, Apoorva, while discussing with Elnaaz Nouruzi, compared Traitors to Bigg Boss and agreed on how tough it had been for every participant who was a part of it. She said, 'Being without your phones, not knowing, not having anyone to talk to, constantly being followed by your shadows, the wind chimes, constantly fighting with people, not having the food that you want to eat, it was all just too much."
