Amritsar:
Tarsem Singh
, father of
Amritpal Singh
, has accused a senior police officer of mistreating the family and using abusive language during the recent court appearance of the jailed MP's colleagues here.
Talking to the mediapersons on Saturday, Tarsem Singh alleged that a senior Punjab Police officer responded aggressively when the family expressed their desire to meet the detained persons.
The officer mistreated Amritpal's mother and passed humiliating remarks, such as "your son has set Punjab on fire and you've already made a lot of money, now stop", claimed Tarsem Singh. The public humiliation occurred inside the Amritsar court complex, he added.
Moreover, he alleged, the other women relatives of the detained persons were also mishandled. They were pushed, shoved off, and treated disrespectfully, said Tarsem Sigh.
Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) leadership also condemned the Punjab Police officer's behaviour and demanded that the officer be immediately suspended. They urged the govt to initiate departmental action against the officer to set an example and prevent such misconduct in future.

Tarsem Singh further said in recent days, the Punjab Police have been spreading baseless rumours about Amritpal Singh's involvement in drugs. He firmly rejected the claims, labeling these as "unfounded and malicious".
Amritpal's father said even Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, who appeared in court, clearly refuted these allegations.

'Settled a war a month': Trump again takes credit for India-Pakistan ceasefire; claims 'ending 5 wars' globally

US President Donald Trump (Image credits: AP) NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump once again on Sunday repeated his claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, along with ending several other global conflicts. In post on Truth Social, Trump responded to radio host and author Charlamagne Tha God saying the host knew 'nothing' about his achievements, including 'just ending 5 Wars, including a 31 year bloodbath between Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, where Seven Million people have died, and there was no end in sight.' Trump added, 'He didn't know that, or India and Pakistan or, wiping out Iran's nuclear capabilities, or closing the horrendous open Border, or creating the greatest economy.' Speaking to Newsmax a day earlier, Trump claimed to have 'settled a lot of wars,' including India and Pakistan. 'One of the wars—India, Pakistan, nuclear,' he said. He also cited conflicts in Thailand and Cambodia, and Congo and Rwanda, saying many were resolved through trade pressure, reported PTI. 'I said 'listen, you guys are going to fight. You can fight all you want. I mean, just fight your hearts out. But we're not doing a trade deal'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 Most Beautiful Women Ever Today's NYC Undo All of a sudden they end up not doing a war.' Trump added, 'I settled a lot of wars. I think I settled averaging about a war a month. But, you know, we're saving millions of lives.' Last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt supported Trump's claim, saying he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. 'Trump has now ended conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia,' she said at a briefing. She claimed Trump has 'brokered, on average, about one peace deal or ceasefire per month' in his six months in office. Since May 10, Trump has claimed multiple times that India and Pakistan had agreed to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire after US-mediated talks. However, officials have firmly denied any US involvement in the recent ceasefire. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Parliament that no foreign leader urged India to stop Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said there was 'no third-party intervention' and dismissed any link between the ceasefire and trade. 'Prime Minister Modi and Trump did not have any phone calls between April 22, when the Pahalgam terror attack took place, and June 16,' Jaishankar said in the Rajya Sabha as quoted by PTI.

Police examine videos after BJP councillors booked for altercation with Ludhiana mayor

Ludhiana: Police in the city are reviewing video footage following a heated altercation at the Zone-D office of mayor Inderjit Kaur that resulted in charges against two BJP councillors, the husbands of three women councillors, and more than 20 others. The incident unfolded recently, when BJP members of the house arrived at the municipal corporation office seeking a meeting with the mayor. Tensions escalated, leading to what police describe as intimidation and physical confrontation. A complaint filed by assistant sub-inspector Sudagar Singh, who serves as the mayor's security officer, suggests that the situation became hostile after several people entered the office claiming to be councillors. Mayor Kaur alleged that not all present were elected. As discussions grew heated, three men — Kulwant Singh Kanti, Vishal Gulati, and Jatinder Goryan, all spouses of sitting councillors — allegedly argued with and threatened the mayor, restraining her from leaving the office. Councillors Mukesh Khatri and Gauravjit Singh Gora were also accused of aggressive behaviour and reportedly attempted to assault the mayor before allegedly manhandling the ASI. Following the ASI's intervention, the group reportedly continued with abusive language before leaving the premises. Division Number 5 police have filed an FIR against councillors Gauravjit Singh Gora (Ward 80), Mukesh Khatri (Ward 76), Kulwant Singh Kanti (spouse of Kuldeep Kaur, Ward 33), Vishal Gulati (spouse of Ruchi Gulati, Ward 73), Jatinder Goryan (spouse of Ruby, Ward 17), and 20 unidentified individuals under charges of obstructing a public servant, assault, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation. Police say all relevant video evidence is under review and no further arrests or action will be taken until they have examined the footage thoroughly. The BJP members of the MC house, meanwhile, have maintained a sit-in protest outside the mayor's office since Friday night, demanding an apology from mayor Inderjit Kaur over alleged misbehaviour. A senior police official said the investigation was in progress and any further steps will depend on what the video evidence reveals. Dharmasthala case: SIT urged to deploy GPR at locations identified by witness

Mangaluru: Advocate Manjunath N, legal counsel for Sujatha Bhat, mother of Ananya Bhat, a medical student who allegedly disappeared while she was in Dharmasthala in 2003, has requested the use of advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at locations already identified by the complainant witness. These locations have been excavated in connection with the alleged Dharmasthala mass burial case. "It is learnt that skeletal remains were uncovered at some of the locations identified by the complainant witness. He said he left Dharmasthala in 2014. The region experiences heavy rainfall, leading to a high possibility of soil shifting and accumulation from one place to another," the advocate said in a release. "Since considerable changes have occurred in the forest area over approximately 11 years, there is a high probability that the landmarks the witness identified from memory may have changed or shifted. Therefore, as we previously petitioned on July 29, we request that GPR units, which are comparable in size to machines used for clearing grass and weeds and can be operated by a small team, be deployed to detect skeletal remains at the already excavated locations and in the surrounding areas," he stated. "Many experts anticipate that the SIT, led by Pronab Mohanty, will implement GPR technology. We have faith and confidence that the Karnataka govt and chief minister Siddaramaiah will support the SIT in deploying GPRs," the advocate added. The SIT began its field investigation into the case on July 28 by mapping 13 alleged burial sites, based on the testimony of the complainant witness, and started searching the area from the next day. Till Saturday, the SIT, in the presence of Puttur assistant commissioner Stella Varghese, searched around 10 locations. Security personnel have been deployed in the area. Demand for transparent investigation The Mangaluru unit of All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) has demanded an impartial, transparent, and time-bound investigation into the matter by the SIT. "These are not isolated crimes but raise serious questions about the functioning of the law enforcement system," said Vinay Chandra, convenor, AIDSO Mangaluru unit. Dharmasthala is a place founded on truth: Scholar "Attempts are being made by mischief-makers to malign the sanctity of Dharmasthala by spreading baseless allegations and misinformation. These unauthorised accusations have deeply hurt countless devotees," said Daivajna Somayaji, a senior scholar. During his visit to Dharmasthala on Sunday, he told reporters, "Dharmasthala is a sacred place rooted in truth, dharma, justice, and ethics."
