
Soldier killed in early morning crash with cement lorry
The accident occurred at approximately 3.40am, leaving the victim trapped in his mangled vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, deputy superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, said they received a distress call from a member of the public at 3.42am.
"A team of seven firefighters from the Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene and arrived within five minutes," he said when contacted.
The rescue team managed to extricate the victim, who was pinned in the driver's seat, at 4.11am.
A medical officer at the scene confirmed the victim had died, and the body was handed over to the police for further action.

Five people were seriously injured, with one slightly hurt, in the road rampage which hit four vehicles at three locations along Jalan Perak and the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here last night. Five injured in multi-vehicle crash in Penang
Five people were severely injured, and one escaped with minor injuries after a multi-vehicle crash along Jalan Perak, ending on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway towards Batu Uban, on Friday (July 25). George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the George Town police received information about an accident involving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), two cars, and two motorcycles. "Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred on Friday (July 25) at about 8.30 p.m. when the SUV driver, upon reaching the traffic light junction at Jalan Perak, collided with the rear of a Perodua Myvi," he said. The SUV driver then continued driving and collided with two motorcycles along Jalan Perak. Subsequently, the SUV proceeded towards the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, heading towards Batu Maung, and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. As a result, the drivers of the SUV and cars, along with the motorcyclists and pillion riders aged between 15 and 56, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Penang Hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
