Five injured in multi-vehicle crash in Penang
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the George Town police received information about an accident involving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), two cars, and two motorcycles.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred on Friday (July 25) at about 8.30 p.m. when the SUV driver, upon reaching the traffic light junction at Jalan Perak, collided with the rear of a Perodua Myvi," he said.
The SUV driver then continued driving and collided with two motorcycles along Jalan Perak.
Subsequently, the SUV proceeded towards the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, heading towards Batu Maung, and crashed into the rear of another vehicle.
As a result, the drivers of the SUV and cars, along with the motorcyclists and pillion riders aged between 15 and 56, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Penang Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

MPV driver arrested over crash that claimed life of 5-year-old pillion rider in Mukah

MUKAH (July 28): Police have confirmed the arrest of a local man in connection with a fatal road accident at KM 21 Mukah-Balingian Road near the Kampung Penipah junction on Friday (July 25). Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the vehicle involved in the accident was also seized to assist with the investigation. 'The 31-year-old suspect, who was the driver of a white Perodua Alza multipurpose vehicle (MPV), was detained at around 2.30pm on July 27 after presenting himself at the Mukah District Traffic Police Station to lodge a report,' he said in a statement. The accident claimed the life of a five-year-old boy, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle. He suffered serious head injuries and died while receiving treatment at Mukah Hospital. The 17-year-old male motorcyclist sustained injuries to his face and legs but is reported to be in stable condition. Muhamad Rizal said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Kuala T'ganu bank officer cheated of RM240,000 in vehicle purchase scam
KUALA TERENGGANU: A bank officer has been left devastated after losing RM241,700, including his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings, in an online vehicle purchase scam. Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said the 52-year-old victim came across an advertisement for a used four-wheel-drive vehicle on Facebook on July 4. Interested in the offer, the victim clicked on the link and began communicating with the purported seller via WhatsApp, he said. The victim was told to provide a copy of his MyKad and make an advance payment to a representative of the suspect's company, supposedly based in Port Klang, Selangor. "Between July 9 and 21, the victim made 40 payments to eight different accounts totalling RM241,700. "The victim began to suspect he had been cheated when he was asked to pay an additional RM31,000 supposedly for fingerprinting costs at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department," he said in a statement on Monday (July 28). ACP Azli said the victim lodged a police report on Sunday (July 27) and that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama
