Operation Sindoor: Indian Navy Officer's ‘Jet Loss' Comment Ignites Storm, Govt Rushes to Clarify
/ Jun 30, 2025, 11:28AM IST A new controversy has erupted over India's top-secret Operation Sindoor, after Navy Captain and Defence Attaché to Indonesia Shiv Kumar publicly stated that the Indian Air Force lost 'some aircraft' during the cross-border anti-terror strikes in Pakistan and PoK. Speaking at a defence seminar on June 10, he revealed that initial IAF losses occurred due to political constraints, as forces were told not to strike Pakistani military infrastructure or air defences in the first wave. He added that tactics were changed later to suppress enemy air defences using BrahMos missiles. The Indian Embassy in Indonesia has since issued a clarification, calling the remarks 'misrepresented' and 'taken out of context'. This has reignited debate over whether India lost Rafale or other jets in the operation—a claim long denied by officials.#OperationSindoor #IAFLosses #ShivKumar #IndianAirForce #IndiaPakistan #RafaleJet #pakistan #pakistanairforce #toi #toibharat #bharat #breakingnews #indianews

'Namazvad, not Samajwad': BJP attacks Tejashwi for 'will bin Waqf Act' remark; says 'won't happen'
NEW DELHI: The ( ) on Monday went all out in its attack against (RJD) leader , after he vowed during a rally in Patna to "throw the Waqf Act into the dustbin" if the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) is voted to power in the upcoming . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Tearing into the rival INDIA bloc, which also includes the RJD, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi pointedly criticised socialist parties -- accusing them of "not standing up for the rights of the poor and oppressed Muslims". "These parties like RJD, Samajwadi Party, etc, who are wearing the garb of socialism, are not standing up for the rights of the poor and oppressed Muslims. Therefore, the socialism of RJD and SP cannot be called socialism at all. If it is called 'Namazvad', then it will not be an exaggeration," Trivedi said during a press briefing on Monday. The BJP leader claimed Tejashwi's remark was made "in the pursuit of the vote bank" and said the Congress-led INDIA bloc has "not been able to move beyond the 50-year-old mentality of throwing the Constitution in the dustbin." Trivedi was referring to the 1975 National Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, which caused massive upheaval across the political spectrum. The BJP leader also said that the remarks of ex-Bihar CM Lalu Yadav's son had "no respect for the Parliament, judiciary" as the Waqf Act was passed by both Houses of the Indian Parliament. "Recently, 50 years of the Emergency, the most dreadful chapter in the democratic history of India, were completed. But it is very sad that yesterday in the same Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where during the Emergency lakhs of people had gathered without caring for their lives to protect the Constitution, a rally was held in which Tejashwi Yadav said that we will throw the law passed by the Parliament in the dustbin," Shudhanshu Trivedi said during media briefing. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Stepping up an attack on the anti-BJP bloc, Trivedi said: "I want to ask the INDI alliance, are you thinking of implementing Sharia law in Bihar, which is bigger than Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and ISIS?" He further said: "BJP and the NDA alliance are determined that if anyone wants to throw Baba Saheb Ambedkar's constitution, any of its provisions, into the dustbin, we will not let that happen." The politics around Waqf appear to have been reaching to its boiling point as Bihar goes to the polls for 243 assembly seats in a few months. The BJP, led by Prime Minister Modi, is contesting in alliance with Nitish Kumar's JD(U) under the NDA banner. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav's RJD, as part of the opposition INDIA bloc, will challenge the ruling alliance in the state elections. Tejashwi is the Mahagathbandhan CM face.

'Not the language I use': NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani sidesteps condemning 'globalise intifada' phrase; vows to protect Jewish community
Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani (File photo) New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani sidestepped from addressing concerns about the phrase "globalize the intifada" while asserting his commitment to protecting Jewish residents, in a recent "Meet the Press" interview with NBC's Kristen Welker Mamdani said, "That's not language that I use," and emphasised his leadership would be guided by universal human rights principles. 'The language that I use and the language that I will continue to use to lead this city is that which speaks clearly to my intent, which is an intent grounded in a belief in universal human rights," he said as quoted by Politico. Following his unexpected triumph in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary against former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mamdani faced scrutiny for his stance on the controversial phrase prior to the election. In response to questions, he didn't directly talk about it but revealed plans to substantially increase anti-hate crime programme funding by 800 percent. The November election will see him compete against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, with possible participation from Cuomo. "I've heard from many Jewish New Yorkers who have shared their concerns with me, especially in light of the horrific attacks that we saw in Washington, DC and in Boulder, Colorado, about this moment of antisemitism in our country and in our city," Mamdani told Welker. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Livguard Lithium-X: The Future of Power Backup Livguard Shop Now Undo "And I've heard those fears, and I've had those conversations." The term "intifada", historically associated with Palestinian resistance against Israel since 1987, has raised concerns among Jewish communities when coupled with "globalize", as it potentially implies worldwide violence against Jews. Mamdani received support from Jewish Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler through an endorsement on Wednesday. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered congratulations via social media, though without formal endorsement. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand urged Mamdani on Thursday to reject the controversial term. Post-victory, Mamdani encountered religious prejudice, particularly from MAGA supporters, including Donald Trump Jr., who posted on X: "New York City has fallen." Who is Zohran Mamdani? Zohran Mamdani, 33, is a democratic socialist, chosen as the mayoral of New York City, having defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo in a ranked-choice primary. Born in Uganda to Indian-origin parents- filmmaker Mira Nair and academic Mahmood Mamdani—he moved to New York at age seven and later earned a degree in Africana Studies from Bowdoin College. A Shia Muslim and former state assemblyman from Queens, Mamdani has built his political career around housing rights, transit affordability, and immigrant advocacy, gaining strong support from young, progressive voters.
