Teen stabbed to death in Bury is named - as three suspects remain in custody
Mohammed Afzal, known to his loved ones as Isa, was attacked just before 9pm on Friday in a car park on Market Street.
He suffered several stab wounds and died later from his injuries.
Three 19-year-old men were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of murder, Greater Manchester Police said.
An investigation is ongoing and the suspects remain in custody, police said.
One arrest took place at Manchester Airport at 4.30am on Sunday, while the others happened in Bolton and Bury on Saturday evening.
Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said on Sunday he believed it was a "targeted attack" and there was no wider threat to the public.
"This was a violent and tragic incident that was witnessed by a lot of people," he said.
"This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat."
He added: "Our officers will be in the area today and over the next few days as we try to establish what happened in the lead-up to this awful incident.
"We also have specialist officers supporting the family at this difficult time.

Napa parents charged with murder, child abuse in 2024 death of toddler
The parents of a Napa toddler boy who died of fentanyl poisoning in 2024 were charged with murder and child abuse, authorities said Monday. The Napa County District Attorney's Office said in a press release that the boy's mother, 42-year-old Belen Mare Shroyer, was charged with murder and child abuse, while father Timothy Daniel Schultz, 47, was charged with child abuse in connection with the death of 3-year-old Zayden Schultz. The two also face allegations that they willfully caused harm or injury resulting in Zayden's death; that the crimes exhibited violence, cruelty, viciousness or callousness; involved a vulnerable victim; that they were in a position of trust; that the crimes represent an escalation in criminal behavior; and that they have had prior poor performance on probation or parole, according to DA's Office. On August 15, 2024, Napa County Sheriff's deputies went to a home on the Mary C Drive, just east of Linda Vista Avenue and south of Redwood Road, in response to a report of a child who was not breathing. The child, who was under the care of his parents at the time, was pronounced dead at a hospital from fentanyl poisoning, the DA's Office said. Shroyer and Schultz were arraigned Monday afternoon in Napa County Superior Court and were ordered to return on Friday to enter a plea. Schroyer was being held at the Napa County Department of Corrections without bail. Bail for Schultz was set at $1 million.

Armed suspect fatally shot by Hollywood police during arrest attempt, authorities say
A man wanted in connection with a string of violent crimes was fatally shot by police during an attempted arrest Sunday afternoon, according to the Hollywood Police Department. Detectives say they were conducting surveillance around 4 p.m. on Aug. 3 near Southwest 61st Avenue and Southwest 19th Street in Miramar when they located 32-year-old Donald Taylor. Hollywood Police said Taylor was armed and refused verbal commands before "an officer-involved shooting occurred." A firearm was recovered at the scene and Taylor was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he later died. Police also linked Taylor to the following incidents: • July 30, 3:56 p.m. – A vehicle burglary at 1450 S State Road 7, where a firearm was stolen. • July 30, 4:24 p.m. – An aggravated assault in Miramar at 6590 Pembroke Road, where Taylor allegedly pointed a gun at a patron. • Aug. 1, 7:00 p.m. – An attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault at the Dollar General at 830 S State Road 7. Police said Taylor grabbed a cashier and pointed a gun at her before fleeing. • Aug. 2, 5:54 p.m. – An armed robbery at the Walgreens at 5999 Pembroke Road, during which Taylor allegedly pointed a gun at a clerk and robbed the store. As is standard protocol in police shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

EXCLUSIVE: Ramaswamy decries ‘anti-law enforcement culture' in wake of brutal Cincinnati beating
A viral video showing several people being brutally beaten in downtown Cincinnati has Vivek Ramaswamy decrying a pervasive "anti-law enforcement culture" in American society. The former 2024 presidential hopeful and Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate spoke with Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview on Monday evening ahead of a Cincinnati town hall event addressing combating violence, saying that he believes the Cincinnati beating "catalyzed a conversation in our state and frankly across the country about this issue of violent crime in the cities of the United States of America." He called the beating of Holly, a woman in their video who apparently was attempting to intervene to help another victim, "totally unconscionable." In the video, a group of people can be seen pummeling two victims, one of whom, a woman later identified as Holly, ended up with "very bad brain trauma." The incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 26 on the corner of Fourth and Elm Streets, outside a popular nightclub. Ramaswamy shared that he has been in contact with Holly after first reaching out to her to check in on her well-being after the beating. He previously revealed Holly told him that no local elected officials reach out to her after the incident. "One of the reasons I wanted to reach out was just to see if we could help … but also to hear her perspective on the front lines of what she wants to see come out of this," he explained. "The fact of the matter is she, and victims like her, want to make sure that violent crime like this doesn't spread, that we're able to use what was a tragedy, and it was a travesty what happened in Cincinnati, to be able to adopt policies that actually stop this reckless crime in our cities, stop the wave of violent crime in cities." Another angle of the fight shows a victim being beaten in the middle of the street and yelling racial slurs. Some claim the male victim slapped one of the perpetrators before the fight, sparking the beatdown. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge said in a press conference that there are a total of six victims. Six people have been charged with crimes, and four have been arrested. The city's fugitive task force is searching for the two suspects who are still at large. Theetge said that out of the approximately 100 people who witnessed the incident or were involved in the brawl, only one individual called law enforcement. Jermaine Matthews, 39, Dominique Kittle, 37, Montianez Merriweather, 34, and Dekyra Vernon, 24, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the fight. He said the U.S. should be a place "where Americans can actually feel just safe to go into their cities, have a good night without fear of getting beaten up or assaulted." "I don't think that's too much to ask in the greatest nation known to the history of mankind. I don't think it's too to ask in Cincinnati, Ohio," he said. Regarding the vast majority of bystanders not intervening during the beating, Ramaswamy commented, "It is sad to see the anti-law enforcement culture, the anti-rule of law culture spread across our country." "I think there are deeper issues relating to just people being agnostic to the rule of the law, people being desensitized to this kind of violence," he went on, adding, "At our best as human beings, that's not who we are. We feel compassion when something like this happens. Ignoring it is not compassion. Ignoring is cruelty." He called for more "open dialogue" rather than "sweeping these issues under the rug." He said that some have criticized him for calling attention to the beating, saying "some of them make it seem like the bigger crime than the assault was actually noticing it." "I don't think that's the case. I think that actually the way we're going to bring people together is through what we're doing tonight. Open dialogue, open discussion," he explained.
