William Newbury saved a mum and baby from a three-dog attack

William Newbury, 22, stepped in to save his friend and her newborn from the Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
The security worker from Cardiff was left needing counselling and severe injuries across his body, multiple stitches, surgeries and "some wicked scars"
He's also lost functioning in part his hand.
William said: "The baby would gave been 100 per cent dead, and the mum would have followed after - I couldn't have let that happen.
"I do feel good, I'm just happy they are both OK."

The traumatic accident occurred on Mother's Day when he and his girlfriend, Jamie-Lee Davis decided to drop off some baby presents to their friend in Llanrumney, Cardiff.
However, upon arriving, the couple recalled hearing screaming - which they thought initially was children playing in the garden.
William said: "When we saw our friend's neighbour come out of their house and go up to the door of the property where my friend was, we thought it was all a bit strange."
William looked through the letterbox and saw the "nightmare": that was his friend and her six-day-old baby on the floor with three dogs attacking them.

William explained: "There was one dog biting her foot, another biting her hand and another was trying to get over her stomach to get to the baby.
"I started banging on the door and shouting through the letterbox - trying to get their attention.
"One of the dog's noticed me and started barking, but that made the other two get more aggressive towards my friend.
"Even though it was awful, it was good I got that dog's attention, because if it had gotten over to the baby, I don't want to think about what would have happened."
The front door was locked or broken, said William, so he was unable to get in the property.
He said: "I have experienced some nasty things from working in security, but this was pretty horrific.
"All we could do was listen to her screams."
After calling his friend's partner, who was out of the house with his family, someone had mentioned one of the window's was unlocked.
William said: "Normally I am the type of person to think about stuff first, but as soon as someone said a window was unlocked, without thinking, I ragged the window open and went through the window.
"My girlfriend wanted to come too, but I wouldn't let her.
"So I managed to pick my friend up inside, as she couldn't stand and was loosing consciousness - with gaping holes in her feet.
"We managed to put the baby in a pram, and my girlfriend lent through window, got the baby out safe and passed them to the neighbour."
After some extreme difficulty, William managed to lift his friend over a baby gate - despite one of the dogs with a "locked jaw" on their jumper.
He got his friend out of the window, but as one of the dogs was trying to follow them out, William screamed for the window to be shut.
"I remember screaming 'shut the window!', but it meant I was locked in the house with the dogs", said William.
For the next 20 minutes, the young man had to try and fight off three unrelenting Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
They attacked him on his hands, arms, legs, stomach and jumped at his face and neck.
William's girlfriend was forced to watch the harrowing event through the living room doors.
He said: "There was one point when I literally thought I was going to die.''

William's girlfriend, Jamie-Lee, then came in and grabbed one of the dogs - and before it could attack her the dogs' owners arrived at the house.
William was taken away in an ambulance, and spent the next eight days recovering in Heath hospital - where he had to undergo various surgeries and around 20 stitches.
Doctors informed him he will be off work for around 14 weeks.
He said: "My finger still feels like it's going to fall off! It's permanently broken for the rest of my life.
"But they got me all over my body - I had to have 15 stitches alone on my right hand. More stitches on my left arm, gashes on my leg, stomach, lower back, my neck, jaw and check.
"Luckily my beard covers some of it!"
Since having counselling, William has been left sceptical of dogs - but not fearful.
He explained: "I refuse to be scared of them.
"We have always had dogs in the family - there has never not been a dog in my house.
"So I am now cautious and tread carefully but it is about how you bring dogs up.
"My accident was the fifth attack so far involving those dogs - apparently they weren't fed for two days either.
"Social services even had a plan in place for them, meaning they usually had to be in their cages if left alone - but they weren't in their cages that day."
If William had not intervened, he said his friend's baby would have died, and potentially his friend too.
He added: "The baby would gave been 100 per cent dead, and the Mum would have followed after.
"When being interviewed by the police, my own mum said 'I would have had a standing chance if I had been jumped by three men, but not those dogs.
"It took dog handlers between two and four hours to get them after the attack."
The baby's family have set up a fundraiser to help William cover some of his loss of earnings, medical fees and everything that was destroyed in the attack, like his £400 car key and phone.
South Wales Police are investigating the incident and no arrests have yet been made.
The woman and mother of the baby who William saved, who does not wish to be named, said: "I'm struggling with day-to-day tasks, as I can't walk and I'm awaiting my fourth surgery.
"William is mine and my baby's true hero, I can't thank him enough. I thought I was going to die."

Mum whose baby boy was thrown from car window after she drank rosé on beach & didn't strap him in properly avoids jail

The female driver of the car previously admitted causing death by careless driving while over the drink drive limit TOT TRAGEDY Mum whose baby boy was thrown from car window after she drank rosé on beach & didn't strap him in properly avoids jail Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A MUM has avoided jail after her baby boy was thrown from a car window and killed as he had not been properly strapped into his seat. Morgan Kiely, then 19, had been drinking rosé wine with her friend Stevie Steel at Clacton Beach when she got into her pal's Ford Focus with her six-month-old son Harry on July 13, 2022. In the process of flipping, Harry was thrown from his seat, leaving the vehicle through an open window. He later died that night from "unsurvivable" injuries, including a skull fracture. Today, Kiely - now aged 22 - was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence. Steel also previously admitted causing death by careless driving while over the drink drive limit. While Kiely chose not to give evidence at her trial, a key witness said it was "highly likely" that the straps of Harry's seat had not been secured. The trial at Chelmsford Crown Court heard how the mum had been a passenger in the front seat of Steel's motor, with Harry in the rear seat directly behind. The pair of adults had met up at about 3pm and bought three bottles of rosé wine on their way to the beach. While on the beach for several hours, they were briefly joined by Mitchell Basssett, Steel's former partner. He offered them a lift from the beach after hearing their plans to continue drinking that evening. However, they refused. Judge Robert Jay said: "Alarm bells should have been ringing in your head at that point. "You knew how much Stevie had drunk. You could and should have taken up Mitchell's offer. "A mother should not agree to travel with a drunk driver." The court heard that a distracted Steel hit a parked car while driving on Cherry Tree Avenue in the coastal town. Steel's Ford Focus had been travelling within the 30mph speed limit but rolled after hitting the static motor, eventually ending up on its roof. Both women were left hanging upside down by their seatbelts while Harry was thrown from the vehicle through an open window. Judge Jay said: "This was not an accident that was likely to happen. "Maybe 99 times out of 100 the car would not have rolled over at this sort of speed and Harry would have survived." Harry suffered a devastating skull fracture and was treated at the scene for more than an hour before he was rushed to hospital. Members of the public had come to assist at the scene, including a paediatric nurse. Despite the best efforts of medical crew to save his life at the hospital, he tragically died at about 9pm that evening. 'THIS WAS A SINGLETON FAILURE' In the trial, the jury reviewed a 999 call from the scene, an officer's bodycam footage, an expert witness who explained how the child car seat worked, and evidence from Mr Bassett. Judge Jay told Kiely: "Harry's safety was your responsibility. It should have been your primary concern that day." He said her negligent conduct that day was a lapse in her otherwise good care of Harry. "I think that it is obvious to everyone in this courtroom that you were a very good mother to Harry in all respects, and that this was a singleton failure," the judge said. The court heard Kiely had given up her job as a carer and now has a four-month-old baby. Benjamin Summers, defending, had read out statements to the court describing Kiely as a "devoted and loving mother" to Harry, and who was "deeply caring". The court heard she had taken Harry on trips to Liverpool and Scotland in his short life to visit relatives, and had recently returned to work as a carer. The jury heard from an expert witness earlier in the trial about the child car seat and how it is designed to work. The witness said it was highly unlikely but not impossible the straps of the seat had been secured in the car. Mr Summers said: "Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful error, it was, but, we say, not making her grossly negligent at the time. "We say it is not as simple as saying the failure to secure a child in a car seat, full stop, is enough."

Who was Sasha Marsden and how long did caretaker David Minto get for killing her?

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE murder of teenager Sasha Marsden will be explored in the true crime show "Killer at the Crime Scene" this Sunday, July 27, at 10pm. The 16-year-old childcare student was killed by hotel caretaker David Minto, who received a life sentence with a minimum term of 35 years. The sister of a teenage girl who was brutally murdered in a hotel room 10 years ago is campaigning to keep her killer behind bars Credit: SWNS 10 years after the Blackpool murder, Sasha's family continues to campaign to ensure her killer remains behind bars permanently. Who was Sasha Marsden? Sasha was just 16 years old when her life was taken, a college student from Blackpool with her future ahead of her. The teenager was studying childcare, pursuing her dream of working with children. The teen was described by her family as kind-hearted and loving. She was also popular among her peers at college, where she was working toward qualifications that would allow her to pursue her chosen career path. Sasha lived with her family in Blackpool, a town better known for its pleasure beach and tourist attractions than for the horrific crime that would later shock its residents to the core. The horrific crime On January 31, 2013, Sasha went to the Grafton House Hotel in the South Shore area of Blackpool. The teenager was stabbed 58 times in what prosecutors described in court as a "sexually motivated" attack. After the attack, Minto set Sasha's body on fire before dumping her in an alleyway behind the hotel. Investigators described the attack as one of the worst they had encountered in their careers. How a Blackpool Couple's Holiday Snaps Unraveled a £50k Benefits Fraud Who was David Minto? David Minto was working as a caretaker at the Grafton House Hotel in Blackpool at the time of the murder. The then 23-year-old contacted Sasha under the pretence of offering her a job, as the court heard during his trial. Evidence presented in court showed Minto had contacted her regarding potential employment, knowing she was interested in job opportunities. According to evidence presented in court, Sasha's parents unknowingly came face-to-face with Minto while searching for their daughter, unaware her body was nearby. 3 Mum-of-two Katie Brett, sister of murdered teenager Sasha Marsden, who is campaigning to have the sentence of her sibling's killer increased following her murder by David Minto in 2013 Credit: Lancs Live/MEN The investigation and trial Police discovered Sasha's burned body in the alleyway behind the hotel. Despite the fire damage, forensic investigators collected evidence linking Minto to the crime. David Minto was charged with Sasha's murder on February 3, 2013, just days after the killing. He denied the charges, which led to a full trial where the family heard details of what happened to Sasha. The evidence against Minto was described in court as "overwhelming". It included DNA evidence, witness testimony, and his behaviour following the killing. Justice for Sasha On July 26, 2013, David Minto was found guilty of Sasha's murder after a trial at Preston Crown Court. The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 35 years before he could be considered for parole. In his sentencing remarks, the judge noted the calculated nature of the crime and the extreme violence used. The court heard how Sasha had suffered what was described as a "brutal and sustained attack." The 35-year minimum term was one of the longest ever handed down in a Lancashire murder case, though not the whole-life tariff that Sasha's family had hoped for. 3 The family's ongoing fight More than a decade after Sasha's murder, her family continues to campaign to keep Minto in prison for the rest of his life. Her sister has been vocal in calling for the removal of time limits on Minto's sentence, advocating for a whole-life tariff that would prevent his release. Under current law, Minto could potentially be eligible for parole after serving his 35-year minimum term. The family's campaign continues as they approach the 10-year anniversary of Sasha's death. A case that shocked Blackpool Sasha's murder received extensive coverage in Blackpool and across the UK. The case remains one of the most significant in the area's history. The crime and the age of the victim made national headlines and continue to be discussed in true crime coverage. Now, the case is being featured in "Killer at the Crime Scene," airing this Sunday, July 27 at 10pm, which examines the investigation that led to Minto's conviction and the impact on Sasha's family and the community.

Pervert doctor put semen in woman's coffee and kept grisly 'stash' for brews

Nicholas Chapman has been struck off the medical register (Image: Avon and Somerset Police / SWNS) A twisted doctor who put his own semen in a woman's coffee has been struck off the medical register with "immediate effect". Perverted Nicholas Chapman, 57, will now never work in the medical profession again due to the risk he poses to members of the public. The former GP, from Taunton, Somerset, was previously slapped with a community order for a sexual offence after a trial found he'd filled hundreds of 'specimen' samples, before pouring these into the hot drinks of his victim. Giving grim testimony, the victim shared how, after taking a sip of a "salty" tasting coffee, she would pour other beverages away, only to notice a "thick gloopy" substance in the sink. The disgraced GP slipped semen into his victim's drink (Image: SWNS) The victim recalled: "I did not know what it was. I did not suspect it could have been semen at that point. He was then bringing me more drinks - probably one to three cups of coffee a week. "Since that occasion, I tipped them away in the sink - seeing the sort of substance in the sink - it was different size and quantities each time. At least six times I've seen it - I've not drunk it since that first time." She added: "I remember the first time I saw stuff in the sink - he said, 'Did you notice something in your drink? I noticed something in mine, he said. Maybe that was the first time he did it, and wanted to know if I'd noticed. It tasted salty." One year later, in September 2021, she became suspicious once more after coming across Chapman's foul collection of "specimen pots". The victim shared: "I instantly suspected he had been putting semen in them and transporting them into my drink. I was in shock at that point. I noticed in this trouser pocket what looked like one of those bottles." The next time Chapman offered to make her a coffee, the victim "instantly felt ill", and was left "shaking that he had put something in it". This time, she took a sample of the "gloopy" drink straight to the police. Remembering her nerves, she continued: "I felt very jumpy and worried he would catch me with this cup. I put the cup into a bag and dropped the sample off (to the police)." It tested positive for Chapman's semen. The formerly respected doctor attempted to claim that someone else had put his semen sample in the coffee as a 'prank' (Image: SWNS) Chapman, who trained at the University of Cape Town in his home country of South Africa, was arrested after arriving at work. He was then suspended from his position at the Somerset-based health centre, once the allegations came to light. The former doctor had attempted to claim that the collection of samples was due to a "secret" condition that saw him discharge semen during defecation. Although he acknowledged there were at least 10-12 "collections" a month and 140 collections a year that were not flushed down the toilet, he insisted that his masturbation, including at work, had "nothing to do with pleasure - but a painful necessity." Alleging that another person must have put these in the coffee as a "prank that went horribly wrong", Chapman argued: "I don't know why someone did that with my sample - I don't know why someone did it or why." When quizzed as to why he did not seek help for his issue or why there was no note of this on his medical records, Chapman told the court: "GPs are often really bad at managing themselves. However, this defence was dismissed as "absurd". At the trial, the victim also described how "letchy" Chapman had shown her photographs on his phone of his "erect penis" on at least two occasions. She stated: "I thought (the first time) it was a mistake and he must be really embarrassed. The second time I felt like it was on purpose. It made me feel very uncomfortable. It was not until I had seen the pots that I suspected it was semen in my drink. At times, I refused a coffee, but he would do it anyway." His claim to have a 'secret' medical condition was branded 'absurd' (Image: SWNS) When asked in court about these photos, which were seen by two colleagues, Chapman claimed this was an "accident" and that he'd been "mortified". In her victim impact statement, the victim told the court: "I feel betrayed by him, by his actions. He has made me feel powerless. "The devious and cowardly nature has shocked me. If this was a physical attack, I may have at least had a chance to defend myself. I've had to be open about this to my partner and family, but I often feel alone and that no one quite understands. "I hope in the future I am able to put this all behind me and move on with my life. Though I have to accept that the mental and emotional trauma I have suffered throughout this will always remain with me in some way." Back in 2023, vile Chapman was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court 2023 after being found guilty of one count of engaging in sexual activity without consent for making the victim "ingest his semen" on September 13, 2021. Jurors found the disgraced doctor not guilty of a second count of the same charge, which was allegedly committed between September 12, 2020, and September 12, 2021. This was during the period when the victim "thought" there might be something wrong with the coffee, but no official testing had taken place. It was determined that there had been 'no evidence of apology, reflection, insight or remediation from Dr Chapman in respect of his conviction' (Image: SWNS) Chapman, previously regarded as an experienced and well-respected medic, has now been struck off after his conduct was heard at a tribunal by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), held between June 23 and July 8, 2025. The tribunal looked at allegations that Chapman had, on one or more occasions between the years 2016 and 2021, engaged in conduct against Ms A - 'that constituted sexual harassment, was sexually motivated and was an abuse of his senior position.' The tribunal also examined allegations that, in 2021, Chapman had given Ms B a cup of coffee that contained semen, the charge he was convicted of. It was asserted that there had been 'no evidence of apology, reflection, insight or remediation from Dr Chapman in respect of his conviction.' In reference to the conduct against Ms. A, the tribunal "found proved" that Chapman had shown the victim images of an erect penis. It was "found proved" that he had shown her pictures of "unclothed women and/or that were pornographic in nature". It was also accepted that Chapman had asked Ms A if she'd found him on a dating app, before asking why she had not found him, and suggesting she should "look for [him]" on the app. In approximately 2020, it was "found proved" that Chapman kissed Ms A on the lips and, in May 2021, hugged and touched her bottom, the tribunal determined. MPTS Chair, Mr Jonathan Storey, concluded that Chapman's erasure from the medical register 'was the only sanction that would mark the seriousness of his misconduct and conviction.' Mr Storey stated: 'Erasure would send a message to the medical profession and to the public that this type of behaviour was unacceptable.' During his previous sentencing, His Honour Judge Rupert Lowe told Chapman: 'Mr Chapman, you are an intelligent professional of previous good character with good references. However, people did not know what you did in private. 'Your defence at trial was absurd and unnecessary. Your claims were implausible and contradictory. You told the police a ridiculous story of having semen on your hand and admitted to masturbating at work. 'You then shifted your story about testing for a medical condition. The truth is, you masturbated at work as you had a high sex drive. The impact on your career and personal life has been considerable. You have brought that on yourself.' In addition to a 12-month community order, Chapman was also subjected to a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim, plus a five-year notification order. He also had to pay court costs totalling £3,500.
