Israeli occupation forces kill 13-year-old Palestinian girl in Jenin - War on Gaza

Al-Ahram Weekly21-02-2025

A 13-year-old Palestinian girl, Rimas Al-Amouri, was killed by Israeli occupation forces on Friday in Jenin, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The ministry said Al-Amouri sustained critical gunshot wounds to the abdomen and back before being rushed to Jenin Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her death brings the number of Palestinians killed in Jenin since the start of the Israeli military assault on the town and its refugee camp two months ago to 27.

According to the Jenin Media Committee, Israeli forces have also displaced over 40,000 people—90 percent of the camp's residents—damaged 470 structures, and cut off water access for 35 percent of the population during 153 military raids on the camp.
Dubbed "Iron Wall," Israeli attacks on north West Bank cities since the beginning of this year have killed at least 73 Palestinians, including 38 in Jenin, 15 in Tubas, seven in Nablus, eight in Tulkarm, three in Hebron, two in Bethlehem, and one in Jerusalem, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported last week.
Since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza on 7 October 2023, at least 887 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli occupation forces or settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
Stop killing children in West Bank!
Last week, UNICEF condemned the surge in Israeli occupation violence against children in the West Bank in recent months as it called for an end to hostilities.
UNICEF's regional director Edouard Beigbeder said 13 Palestinian children have been killed in the West Bank since the start of the year alone, including seven killed following the launch of a large-scale operation by Israel in the north of the territory on 19 January.
The casualties include a two-and-a-half-year-old child, whose pregnant mother was also injured in the shooting, according to the United Nations children's agency.
"UNICEF condemns all acts of violence against children and calls for the immediate cessation of armed activity across the occupied West Bank," Beigbeder said in a statement.
"All civilians, including every child without exception, must be protected."
He added that the rising use "of explosive weapons, airstrikes and demolitions in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas Governorates -- including in refugee camps and other densely populated areas -- has left essential infrastructure severely damaged, disrupting water and electricity supplies."
In total, 195 Palestinian children and three Israeli children have been killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since Israel began its war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
That constitutes a 200 per cent increase in the number of Palestinian children killed in the territory over the past 16 months, compared to the same period prior.
According to the UN humanitarian agency OCHA, 224 children (218 boys and six girls) were killed between January 2023 and January 2025 in the West Bank by Israeli forces or Israeli settlers, which represents nearly half of the 468 children killed in total in the territory since 2005, when OCHA began documenting these victims.
More than 2,500 Palestinian children were also injured in the West Bank between January 2023 and December 2024, according to the agency.

Germany backs Israel after Iran war in first high-level visit - Region

Germany's interior minister, Alexander Dobrindt, expressed support for Israel on Sunday during a visit to the site of an Iranian missile strike near Tel Aviv, one of dozens launched in response to Israel's aerial assault on Iran earlier this month. It was the first visit by a senior foreign official since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, which began on 13 June when Israel launched a large-scale bombing campaign and ended last Tuesday after the United States, Israel's main ally, announced a ceasefire. Israeli authorities claim they targeted only military infrastructure and nuclear facilities. But at least 627 civilians were killed and nearly 4,900 injured in Iran, according to official figures. The toll includes senior military officials and nuclear scientists targeted in their homes, along with family members, in densely populated areas of Tehran. Israel reported being hit by more than 50 missiles during the war, with 28 people killed. The government has imposed strict media controls, limiting independent verification of casualties or targets on either side. 'We must deepen our support for Israel,' Dobrindt said in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, where an Iranian strike killed nine people. He spoke while standing in front of rubble from one of the missile impacts. Israel has claimed the campaign was aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, an allegation Tehran has consistently denied. Israeli foreign minister Gideon Saar called Dobrindt's visit a gesture of 'solidarity' and urged renewed sanctions on Iran. He did not address the mounting civilian death toll or growing condemnation of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza, where Israeli forces have enforced a two-month siege, blocked aid, and killed civilians at US- and Israeli-coordinated distribution points. Rights groups and UN officials have accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon and targeting civilians with impunity. Several governments and legal experts say the campaign bears the hallmarks of genocide, while the International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to take all necessary steps to prevent such acts. On 17 June, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, speaking at the G7 summit in Canada, said Israel was doing the 'dirty work … for all of us' by targeting Iran's nuclear programme. His comment drew criticism from opposition figures and rights groups, who accused him of minimising civilian suffering and endorsing breaches of international law. IAEA Chief: Iran Could Resume Enriched Uranium Production Within Months

Nada Mustafa Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, suggested that Iran could begin producing enriched uranium 'within months,' despite the damage sustained by its nuclear facilities following U.S. and Israeli attacks, according to remarks made to CBS News. Grossi added that Iran could potentially operate several centrifuge cascades for enriched uranium production within that timeframe. Regarding speculation over whether Iran managed to transfer some or all of its estimated 408 kilograms of highly enriched uranium before the strikes, Grossi stated that he does not know where the material might currently be located. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
