Recruitment scam: Deputy director of education suspended
BJP MLA Sanjay Upadhyay alleged that Sangve had created fake IDs on the government's Shalarth Portal to enable ineligible teachers to draw government salaries, adding that the officer had 'recruited dozens of such teachers in the aided schools' making back-dated entries.
Upadhyay demanded suspension of the officer, following which Bhuse made the announcement. Another BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha alleged, 'There is a racket of officers and agents who ensure colleges admit ineligible students at the price of ₹1.5 lakh from each one. College managements are threatened with action if admissions suggested by them are not assured. I will reveal the names of the officers involved if this does not stop.' Bhuse announced the inquiry.

Kerala Governor, state spar again. This time over feet-washing ritual in schools
The Kerala government raised concerns about the appropriateness of students washing the feet of teachers in educational settings, after videos of the same during Guru Purnima controversy erupted after videos showing students washing the feet of teachers in some CBSE schools went viral. In one instance, at a school in Alappuzha, BJP district secretary Anoop was also among those whose feet were washed as part of the ceremony. Following this, Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty sought an explanation from the schools Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar defended the observance of ritual in schools as the practice of 'guru puja'. Speaking at a public event, Governor Arlekar strongly defended the ritual. 'Guru puja is our culture and in that culture we offer flowers at the feet of our Guru. And some people have objected to it. I don't understand from which culture they are coming from. What are their thoughts?' He further recounted a complaint he received from a religious leader about the police coming to a school run by his institution in Kasargod and asking about the guru puja celebration in the city. 'He said, 'what should we tell them? What do they mean by 'why perform'? It is our culture, the culture of our country, our soil. What answer can be given?'Governor Arlekar also questioned the rationale behind criticising the practice and said, 'If one tries to forget their culture, they will forget themselves and will be nowhere in this world.'Education Minister V Sivankutty rejected the Governor's stance, saying: 'They are making our small children wash their feet. I don't even know where in Indian culture is something like this said. There are many books related to Indian culture. Does any of it say that students should be used to wash the feet of BJP Leaders? Does any of it say that this is Kerala culture? Karnataka BJP on Monday slammed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's decision to remain absent from the Sigandur Bridge inauguration event as 'pettiness'. The party further asked, "Does it burn that BJP achieved what Congress couldn't in 60 years?" The inauguration of the 2.12-kilometre-long Sigandur Bridge, built at a cost of Rs 473 crore, has run into controversy after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that protocol was not followed and announced that no local Ministers or MLAs from the state government would attend the event. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah stated that it was the Centre that had initiated the conflict. Responding to the criticism, the Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka stated on Monday that, "The people of the Sharavathi backwater region are celebrating today as a 60-year-old dream is finally coming true. They are decorating their homes with festoons and flowers, celebrating this joyous day like a festival." "But like a man who doesn't want the marriage yet goes looking for a stone in the wedding meal, you, as the Chief Minister of the state, chose not to join in the celebrations of this historic day. Instead, you stirred up unnecessary controversy. What can we even say about such pettiness?" Ashoka slammed. Construction work began on December 12, 2019. The bridge, a long-standing demand for over 60 years, is expected to benefit more than 40 villages. Previously, people and vehicles had to use a ferry to cross the Sharavathi River. The Chief Minister had written a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari objecting to the timing of the inauguration and had requested that the event be postponed. Responding to a question on Monday about the inauguration, CM Siddaramaiah said he had spoken to Union Minister Gadkari over the phone and also written to him, requesting a change in schedule for the programme in Sagara taluk. Although Gadkari had agreed to reschedule the event, the programme was schedule for Monday under pressure from local BJP leaders, without informing him, CM Siddaramaiah stated.
