One more arrested in Jharkhand for links with terrorist group
RANCHI: One more person allegedly linked to an
international terrorist organisation
was arrested in Jharkhand's
Dhanbad
district, an official said on Thursday. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the state had arrested four people allegedly linked to several terrorist organisations from the same district on April 26.
The ATS picked up 33-year-old Ammar Yashar from Shamsher Nagar locality in Bhuli area on Wednesday.
It is suspected that he is associated with
Hizb ut-Tahrir
(HuT), an international pan-Islamist organisation which is banned in several countries including India.
The ATS also issued a statement saying that it seized Yashar's mobile phone in which several suspicious documents related to banned organisations were found.
In the statement, the ATS said Yashar revealed during interrogation that he was previously associated with the banned organisation
Indian Mujahideen
(IM), for which he was arrested in Jodhpur in 2014 and sent to jail.
"After serving about 10 years in prison, he was released on bail in May 2024. Subsequently, he came in contact with Ayan Javed in Dhanbad and several other accused individuals, and was involved with the banned organization HuT (Hizb ut-Tahrir)," it stated.
Ayan (21) along with Gulfam Hasan (21), Md Shahzad Alam (20) and Shabnam Pravin (20) were arrested following raids in Dhanbad on April 26.
Jharkhand ATS had received a tip-off that some individuals associated with HuT, Al-Qaeda in Indian subcontinent (AQIS), ISIS and other terrorist organisations are trying to recruit youths, the statement said.

Chhangur Baba money laundering case: ED searches 15 locations, incriminating documents recovered
The Enforcement Directorate on Monday conducted search operations at multiple locations in connection with a money laundering case where an amulet seller from Meerut managed to build an empire worth over ₹ 100 crores. The probe agency conducted search operations at 15 locations in Balrampur, Lucknow, and Mumbai, related to a money laundering case against Chhangur Baba alias Jalaluddin Shah, his close associate Naveen Rohra, and others. Allegations against the former amulet seller include illegal conversion, use of foreign funds, and conspiring in activities that pose a potential threat to national security, an ED statement said. The searches were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, (PMLA) 2002. 'During the search operations, various incriminating documents were recovered and seized, indicating the receipt of funds from abroad and their transfer to various individuals for acquiring immovable properties,' the ED statement added. Just a day ago, the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested another accused in connection with the religious conversion syndicate allegedly led by Chhangur Baba. According to an ANI report, the accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar Upadhyay, was arrested on Saturday, officials said. The arrest comes days after Jalaluddin and his close aide, Naveen, the alleged masterminds of a covert network involved in religious conversions across Uttar Pradesh and beyond, were arrested from the state. According to UP Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order, Amitabh Yash, the gang operated for over 15 years and used a variety of manipulative tactics, including honey-trapping, administrative pressure, targeting minors, and enlisting influential individuals to facilitate conversions. "A significant amount of foreign funding has been traced to the gang," ADG Yash had told ANI earlier. 'Separate rate cards existed for different types of conversions, and the money was routed through nearly 40 bank accounts. The ATS is tracking the sources of these funds.' He further stated that any properties acquired using these funds would be seized and demolished as per legal provisions. "Chhangur Baba and his main associate, Neetu alias Nasreen, will be interrogated regarding their network, financial trail, and assets. The process to seize and demolish their illegally acquired properties has begun. All individuals against whom there is evidence have been arrested. Mohammed Ahmed is also named in the case, and further investigation is underway," he added. Chhangur Baba, 78, also known as Jalaluddin Shah, is accused of targeting girls from several communities and even maintained a 'rate list' for conversions, officials said. Chhangur is a term generally used for someone with six fingers. Jalaluddin is also said to have six fingers. Chhangur, who used to sell rings and amulets on his bicycle and later became the head of the village,is from Rehra Ma village in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh. Later, he used to lure widowers by promising incentives, financial help, and even marriage for religious conversion.

The agency had claimed that the accused were members of the banned outfit Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and had hatched the conspiracy with Pakistani members of terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The ATS stated that the special MCOCA court on September 30, 2015, handed capital punishment to five accused and life imprisonment to seven others, while acquitting another in the July 11, 2006, serial train blasts case. The ATS said ASG Raja Thakare and Special Public Prosecutor Chimalkar argued for the state in the HC over appeals on the confirmation of the death penalty and life sentence. Arrest of Coimbatore bomb blast accused: ATS team conducts house search in Karnataka
COIMBATORE: Following the arrest of Coimbatore serial bomb blast case accused A Sadiq alias Tailor Raja,50, a team from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) here conducted a house search at Vijayapura in Karnataka on Monday. According to sources, the ATS team seized valid documents including Aadhaar card, PAN card, and driving licence of Sadiq Raja, who had changed his name to Shahjahan Shaik. "He supplied the IED bombs to the designated Al-Umma cadres in February 1998. After escaping from Coimbatore, he moved to Cholapur in Uttar Pradesh. Later, he relocated to Hubballi in Karnataka where he worked as a tailor and changed his name to Shajahan Makkandar. There, he married and had three children. He subsequently moved to Vijayapura in Karnataka where he ran a chilli business under the name Shahjahan Shaik," said a source. Sadiq alias Tailor Raja, who had been evading arrest for 27 years, was apprehended by the Coimbatore city police from Vijayapura on July 9. He was later handed over to the ATS, Coimbatore, which took him into custody for five days. "He confessed to his role in three murders and his involvement in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blast," said a senior police officer. After five days in custody, he was produced before the judicial magistrate court-V on Monday evening and was remanded in judicial custody until July 24. Sources confirmed that he had not been involved in any terror activities since the 1998 Coimbatore car blast, focusing entirely on his family life. "He was shocked when the police traced him after 27 years. He cried and told the police they could have arrested him earlier as he had built a good family life. He had purchased a plot in Vijayapura where he planned to construct a house," said a source. He had also created a Facebook account under the name 'Shahjahan Shaik,' believing that the police wouldn't be able to trace him through social media due to his name change from Sadiq alias Tailor Raja.
