PCO Attributes Marcos' Higher Trust Ratings to Visible, Tireless Work Ethic
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Tuesday responded to the latest OCTA Research survey showing a rise in President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.'s trust ratings, saying it reflects how the public now sees his consistent and visible work. In a press briefing, PCO Undersecretary Geraldine Castro said Filipinos are starting to recognize the President's dedication. 'It's uplifting to see the people acknowledge how hard the President is working — not just for show but in real service to the nation,' she said. Castro added that while the President is not driven by ratings, the increase in approval and trust numbers is still welcome. 'It's better to have high ratings because of actual work, than to have high ratings without doing much,' she noted, subtly contrasting Marcos with unnamed officials she described as idle despite public approval. She also pointed to improved communications and visibility as key reasons for the uptick. 'Before, the public didn't always see what the President was doing because he was so focused on work. Now, efforts are being made to ensure people see and understand where he's going and what he's doing,' Castro said.

DPWH eyes EDSA rehabilitation in 2027 after PH hosts ASEAN Summit
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) may defer the rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) to 2027, in view of the Philippines' hosting of the 46th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit next year. In an interview with DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the department is set to consult with the Office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the possibility of beginning the major rehabilitation works after the regional summit. 'Preferably, during the dry months of 2027 are what we are looking as the most viable times to undertake the rehabilitation,' Bonoan said in Filipino, noting that the timeline remains tentative. Bonoan explained that the agency is recommending a 'non-destructive' rehabilitation approach for Edsa, which means the existing pavement will not be completely removed. 'Instead, we will reinforce the weak sections and apply a crack relief layer before laying new asphalt over it. That's the planned process,' he said. The DPWH is currently waiting for the President's approval before implementing the plan. Bonoan added that there is no estimated budget yet for the rehabilitation project. Earlier, the DPWH had announced that the Edsa rehabilitation would not push through this year due to the onset of the rainy season.

Senate to probe online gambling as senators push for total ban
The Senate is poised to launch an inquiry into the controversial surge of online gambling in the country, as several lawmakers push for a total ban citing its growing social and economic toll. In a privilege speech, Senator Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri raised alarm over the rising number of Filipinos falling into gambling addiction—an issue he said was notably absent from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address. Zubiri described online gambling as an 'epidemic' that has led to financial ruin and even loss of lives, particularly among vulnerable individuals already burdened by economic hardship. 'Mr. President, please give us guidance on how we can stop this epidemic from engulfing our nation and our people,' Zubiri urged. Senator Erwin Tulfo, chairperson of the Senate committee on games and amusement, announced that a hearing will be held next week to look into the matter. He backed Zubiri's call for a complete ban and said the committee would gather input from various sectors, including relevant government agencies and lawmakers. 'We will request a cost-benefit analysis from agencies such as the Department of Finance and PAGCOR to evaluate the lost revenues, employment implications, and social costs,' Tulfo said. Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa, vice chair of the committee, said the Senate's position should be firmly rooted in data to strengthen its policy direction. Several other senators have also expressed support for stricter regulations, if not an outright ban, to address the growing threat posed by online gambling.
