PCO Attributes Marcos' Higher Trust Ratings to Visible, Tireless Work Ethic
In a press briefing, PCO Undersecretary Geraldine Castro said Filipinos are starting to recognize the President's dedication. 'It's uplifting to see the people acknowledge how hard the President is working — not just for show but in real service to the nation,' she said.
Castro added that while the President is not driven by ratings, the increase in approval and trust numbers is still welcome. 'It's better to have high ratings because of actual work, than to have high ratings without doing much,' she noted, subtly contrasting Marcos with unnamed officials she described as idle despite public approval.
She also pointed to improved communications and visibility as key reasons for the uptick. 'Before, the public didn't always see what the President was doing because he was so focused on work. Now, efforts are being made to ensure people see and understand where he's going and what he's doing,' Castro said.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Tuesday responded to the latest OCTA Research survey showing a rise in President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.'s trust ratings, saying it reflects how the public now sees his consistent and visible work. PH set to boost maritime ties with India with of Marcos visit
The Philippines is looking to expand its maritime cooperation with India as President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. prepares for a state visit to New Delhi and Bangalore next week. 'Part of our ongoing relationship with India is in maritime cooperation activities. So we look forward to expanding these,' said Assistant Secretary Evangeline Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq of the Department of Foreign Affairs–Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs (DFA-ASPAC) during a pre-departure briefing on Friday. The President's visit, scheduled from August 4 to 8, comes at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Marcos will meet with Indian leaders and business groups in both cities to explore further cooperation in various sectors. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) earlier announced that the Philippine Navy and the Indian Navy will conduct their first-ever joint maritime cooperative activity in the West Philippine Sea. 'The joint activity will be the first of its kind in the West Philippine Sea—a region increasingly central to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific,' the AFP said in a statement. India's Eastern Fleet flotilla, composed of guided-missile destroyer INS Mysore (D60), anti-submarine corvette INS Kiltan (D30), and replenishment vessel INS Shakti (A57), is currently docked at the Port of Manila for goodwill activities ahead of the joint maritime exercise.

Senate to probe online gambling as senators push for total ban
The Senate is poised to launch an inquiry into the controversial surge of online gambling in the country, as several lawmakers push for a total ban citing its growing social and economic toll. In a privilege speech, Senator Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri raised alarm over the rising number of Filipinos falling into gambling addiction—an issue he said was notably absent from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address. Zubiri described online gambling as an 'epidemic' that has led to financial ruin and even loss of lives, particularly among vulnerable individuals already burdened by economic hardship. 'Mr. President, please give us guidance on how we can stop this epidemic from engulfing our nation and our people,' Zubiri urged. Senator Erwin Tulfo, chairperson of the Senate committee on games and amusement, announced that a hearing will be held next week to look into the matter. He backed Zubiri's call for a complete ban and said the committee would gather input from various sectors, including relevant government agencies and lawmakers. 'We will request a cost-benefit analysis from agencies such as the Department of Finance and PAGCOR to evaluate the lost revenues, employment implications, and social costs,' Tulfo said. Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa, vice chair of the committee, said the Senate's position should be firmly rooted in data to strengthen its policy direction. Several other senators have also expressed support for stricter regulations, if not an outright ban, to address the growing threat posed by online gambling.
