Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old was tentatively charged at the Magistrate's Court here with trafficking 57.82gm of syabu. No plea was recorded from Ag Rizwan Lasikan when the charge was read before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin. Rizwan is accused of committing the offence at 2.50pm on July 12 by the roadside of Puri Warisan, Inanam. The charge, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The court set Sept 18 for mention, pending the chemist's report. Rizwan was ordered to remain in custody as the offence is non-bailable. In another case, a 48-year-old man was jailed six weeks and fined RM100 or one week's jail for failing to provide a reasonable explanation for having a stolen laptop. Rudy Wong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to being found in possession of a laptop, for which he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of how he obtained it, at 3.15pm on July 18 at the car park of Block A, Lido Four Seasons, Jalan Lintas Kepayan. Wong was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Chapter 80) of Sabah. The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant discovered her home had been broken into on July 12, with her belongings, including a laptop, missing. Wong was arrested on July 18 at the car park of Block A of the residency for the offence. Unrepresented, Wong pleaded for leniency and apologised to the court, saying he had an ageing mother to care for. The prosecution, however, urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence and also informed that the estimated loss suffered by the complainant was RM1,000. Two killed in Lahad Datu motorcycle crash

Dianarin Vahidin, 2021 Paginatan UNK, in a Facebook post on Saturday, said she was wrongly accused of being a 'husband snatcher.' 'The accusation is a very serious slander, baseless, and has affected my personal dignity, my family's good name, and the reputation of the Unduk Ngadau institution,' she wrote. She firmly denied any involvement in the alleged affair, describing the claims as harmful and emotionally distressing. Dianarin, the first runner-up in the 2021 State UNK, said the online harassment had compromised her safety and emotional wellbeing, prompting her to seek legal advice and file a police report. She also referred the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for investigation and further action. 'I take this seriously and believe this should serve as a lesson to be more responsible, ethical, and careful when posting or sharing provocative content online,' she said. Fuel smuggling attempt worth RM1 million foiled off Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A fuel smuggling attempt worth RM1 million was foiled by the Marine Police in the waters off Tanjung Papat here early Saturday. Region 4 Marine Police commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a patrol team detected and intercepted a suspicious fishing vessel around 1.10am during an operation. Upon inspection, officers found the vessel was attempting to smuggle subsidised diesel and petrol out of the country. A total of 32,800 litres of fuel, valued at RM1,020,240, was seized, and five individuals aged between 26 and 35, including one local and four foreigners, were detained for investigation.
