Venue cancels Marilyn Manson's performance following campaign

Yahoo7 hours ago

A Brighton venue has cancelled rock star Marilyn Manson's show, following pressure from a campaign group and an MP.
Manson – real name Brian Warner – was set to kickstart the UK leg of his One Assassination Under God Tour at the Brighton Centre on Wednesday, October 29.
Now, customers have been informed by Ticketmaster that the event has been cancelled and they will be refunded.
An online campaign group, No Stage for Abusers, called on the Brighton Centre, and Brighton and Hove City Council, which owns the venue, to cancel the performance.
In January, a year-long investigation into Manson was dropped.
California prosecutors said allegations against Manson exceeded the statute of limitations, adding that they cannot prove charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
Manson has repeatedly denied the accusations and dismissed the claims as "falsehoods".
Known for his eccentric stage persona and provocative statements and behaviour, Manson has long been a controversial figure.
Last week MP Siân Berry expressed her concerns about Manson's upcoming performance in an open letter to leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, Bella Sankey.
In Siân's letter she urged the council to consider cancelling the event as she believes it goes against 'the city's well-renowned values'.
One person told The Argus: "This is cancel culture nothing more, and it'll backfire when artists don't add a Brighton and Hove date to their tours and stick to London, which incidentally haven't banned Marilyn Manson from their city. Set a very worrisome precedent."

Pulp revealed as mystery Glastonbury band as they echo famous 1990s headline set

Declaring a 'Pulp Summer' on the screen behind them, the band appeared on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage for another of the festival's "surprise" performances. Billed as the non-existent act Patchwork in the days beforehand, - similar to when The ChurnUps turned out to be the in 2023. A group of people mysteriously walked on to the stage in waterproof ponchos before the "secret" was revealed and the homage to fellow Saturday night performer Charli XCX's Brat Summer appeared on on Friday, everyone at knew who to expect by the time and co began at 6.15pm, thanks to the bookies' odds, "secret" sources and whispers around the festival. The Sheffield band were welcomed with a huge turnout at the festival's biggest stage. In tribute to their headline performance in 1995, when they famously took over from The Stone Roses at short notice, Pulp started with Sorted For E's And Whizz and then straight into Disco 2000 - two songs played live for the first time on this same stage 30 years ago. "It was the very, very first time they were played - you could say they were born in Glastonbury," Cocker told the crowd. From the Mercury Prize-winning Different Class, the album that propelled Pulp to topping the charts and platinum sales, and one of the most critically acclaimed records of the 1990s, the songs prompted a mass sing-along - and jump-along from an enthusiastic crowd who knew every word. "My name's Jarvis, this is Pulp," Cocker announced, just in case anyone was in any doubt. "Sorry for people who were expecting Patchwork. Did you know that we were going to play?" After their 1990s hits, the band launched into Spike Island, the lead single from More - their first album in 24 years, released earlier this month. It was a set full of memorable moments - including the Red Arrows flying over - and Cocker picking up an acoustic guitar for the poignant Something Changed. Do You Remember The First Time? And Babies also featured, before the band of course ended on their biggest hit - Common People. Pulp's appearance came after keyboard player Candida Doyle appeared to confirm the band would not perform at the festival in a BBC interview beforehand, despite much speculation that they would fill one of the unannounced slots. Read more from Sky News:' "We wanted to, just because it's the 30th anniversary and that kind of thing, and they weren't interested," she said. "And then we were thinking maybe next year, and then they're not doing it next year." Along with the headliners and the Sunday afternoon "legends slots", unannounced sets from the likes of the Foo Fighters, The Killers, and have become some of the most talked-about performances at Glastonbury in recent years. As well as Capaldi and Pulp, acts including Lorde and Haim have also popped up as "secrets" this year. Pulp have a history of surprises at the festival, having performed a secret set on the Park Stage in 2011 following their first hiatus. Formed in 1978, they released three albums in the 1980s and early '90s before finding mainstream success with 1994's His And Hers. Different Class came 18 months later in October 1995 and Pulp became huge, helped in no small part by their memorable performance at Glastonbury earlier in the year. Thirty years later, they have entered the festival's history books once again.

Gangland enforcers Tamo Junto warn 'accept no imitation' in chilling video to imposters

The crime group behind the ongoing gangwar plaguing Edinburgh and the west of Scotland has fired a chilling final warning to the copycats passing themselves off as members of their crime syndicate. Tamo Junto has claimed responsibility over a number of incidents in recent months, as firebombings, shootings and knife attacks have taken place in and around the capital and Glasgow, reports The Daily Record. The group, also known as TMJ, serve as the footsoldiers for former Union Bears Capo-turned gang boss Ross "Miami" McGill, who holed up in a Dubai bolthole after leaving Scotland. The threats came in a 15-second video sent to the Daily Record. The clip features white text on a black background and ends with the TMJ logo against a camouflaged backdrop. The video brands the tmjdoesitbest TikTok account a "Fake Page". The account had posted a number of videos in recent days, naming a so-called rival and alleging attacks were imminent. We've never been on TikTok, Instagram or any of these platforms and never will be. "Social media is for snitches as we've seen over the last few months from The Gremlins and their associates. Anyone we find creating any accounts under our name will be targeted. "We will continue our pursuit against The Gremlins regardless of Operation Portaledge for many years to come. This is the final video we will be releasing. "There will never be another video created by TMJ again. Don't steal from us. Don't snitch on us. Don't pretend to be us. Or we will target you relentlessly. TMJ. Accept no imitations." Police Scotland has cracked down on the incidents - which have taken place in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bishopbriggs, and elsewhere in the country - as part of Operation Portaledge. The police operation has seen 50 suspects arrested and a number of individuals arrested, charged and remanded in custody over their alleged crimes. They said: 'I saw the helicopters and wondered what was happening. It's all very sad. It's very busy with families here. I cross here with my bike every time. The tree was very secure.
