Granting holiday to school for SFI rally triggers row
Kozhikode: The decision by Kozhikode Medical College Campus Govt Higher Secondary School to grant leave to the high school section on Monday following request of the SFI has triggered a controversy. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A holiday was granted to the high school section to allow students to attend the public rally held to mark the conclusion of the four-day SFI national conference. Headmaster Sunil stated that SFI activists had submitted a strike notice, requesting cooperation from schools to facilitate student participation in the rally. "Since they had served a formal notice, we decided to call off classes for the high school section to avoid any issues for the school. However, regular classes continued for the LP and UP sections," Sunil said. High school classes were dismissed at 10.30am. Allegations surfaced that SFI activists mobilized students during school hours to increase turnout at the rally, which was attended by chief minister . The headmaster said when he had called police in a similar situation last year, police had asked why we could not cooperate with protesters and why create needless issues. On Sunday, the headmaster had sent a message to the parents' WhatsApp group indicating the possibility of a holiday. The message also advised parents and auto drivers not to leave until it was confirmed that the school would close only after 10.30am. Following the incident, workers of the Kerala Students Union staged a protest at the DDE office, alleging that the school's decision violated Kerala Education Rules. The protest was called off after the deputy director of education assured in writing that a report had been sought from the district educational officer and appropriate action would be taken based on its findings. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now KSU state president Aloshious Xavier demanded that the general education minister must clarify whether he approves granting of holiday to school if any student organization gives a notice. "It is utterly unacceptable to shut down a govt school to boost participation in the rally of a student organization. If SFI members want to attend their conference, that's fine. But suspending classes for an entire school is undemocratic and infringes on students' rights," he said.

CM slams Centre's vindictive move over textbook revision
Kozhikode: CM Pinarayi Vijayan , on Monday, launched a sharp attack against the Centre, accusing it of adopting a vindictive stance towards Kerala for resisting its saffronization agenda and opposing attempts to make changes in textbooks according to the same agenda. Inaugurating the students' rally and public meeting as part of SFI's 18th national conference, he said that Centre's new education policy, which poses a threat to the country and misleads future generations, is unacceptable. Vijayan alleged that Centre was trying to saffronize education and as part of that agenda, efforts were being made to distort history by adding some chapters into textbooks. "While efforts are being made to rewrite history, some people are openly coming out against the Constitution. Moves are being made to destroy the democratic system and demands are being made to change the core principles of the Constitution," he said. Vijayan said RSS had no role in the freedom struggle and asserted that this historical truth was inconvenient for the BJP-led Centre. "That is why they are trying to rewrite history and glorify figures like Savarkar to distort history. Alterations have been made in textbooks so that the true picture of the freedom struggle is not reflected," he said, adding that Savarkar had betrayed India's freedom struggle. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Vijayan said Kerala refused to follow Centre's directives to revise textbooks in line with its ideological preferences. "We decided to restore the chapters that were deleted. It is this refusal that led the Centre to adopt a vengeful approach against the state," he said. Vijayan also highlighted the achievements of LDF govt and added that during its nine-year rule, Kerala saw significant progress in higher education. "Three state universities are now ranked among the top 12 in the country and 16 colleges are among the top 100," he said.

Kunnummal recommends investigation into registrar actions at event hosting governor
T'puram: Kerala University vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal recommended a detailed investigation into the conduct of university registrar KS Anil Kumar during an event at Kerala University Senate Hall on June 25. The event, attended by governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, was organized by a pro-RSS group and featured a portrait of 'Bharat Mata with a saffron flag'. This triggered protests by SFI workers outside and prompted intervention from the registrar. In a preliminary report submitted to Raj Bhavan, the vice-chancellor said the registrar acted inappropriately and based his intervention on unfounded allegations. The report emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation citing possible criminal implications in this matter. The vice-chancellor's report said that the registrar showed a lack of responsibility, acted without credible evidence about the alleged display of a religious symbol and asked the organizers to cancel the programme. Reports from the registrar, the security officer and the public relations officer did not specify what the alleged symbol was or which religion it represented, said the vice-chancellor's report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Despite being present at the venue, the registrar did not personally see the symbol. The vice-chancellor criticized Kumar's "defiant action" of cancelling the hall booking while the national anthem was being sung in the governor's presence. He said this action disrespected the governor's office and damaged the university's credibility. The vice-chancellor's report also mentioned that the organizing committee, Shri Padmanabha Seva Samiti, had accused the registrar of acting under the influence of some university syndicate members to disrupt the event. The committee said the issue was over a garlanded image of Bharat Mata, which it maintained is not considered a religious symbol under the law. The vice-chancellor submitted the report after Raj Bhavan sought a clarification regarding the event, which had included a commemoration of the Emergency and a book release. The vice-chancellor attached supporting evidence such as photographs, internal documents and a complaint from the organizers. He noted that none of these materials confirmed the registrar's claims about a religious symbol. Considering the constitutional protocols of a university event attended by the head of the state administration and the seriousness of the allegations, the vice-chancellor urged both internal and external investigations.
