Keriwal's wife slams Delhi govt over delay in giving Rs 2,500 honorarium to women, BJP hits back

The Print2 days ago
At a Hariyali Teej celebration hosted by Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Women's Wing at Nizamuddin on Friday, Sunita Kejriwal inaugurated the event alongside Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj and Women's Wing President Sarika Chaudhary by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Addressing the event, she extended festive greetings and slammed the BJP government for withholding the promised Rs 2,500 to women and now imposing conditions on free bus travel. Highlighting the sense of belonging within the party, she emphasised, 'We are fortunate that the AAP is like one big family. May this love and harmony always remain within our family, and may we continue working together for society. During the Delhi elections, every sister put in tremendous effort. We are all connected today because of a shared passion to serve the people.' She said the BJP government in Delhi has deeply wronged the women of the city.
'Despite making a clear promise, the BJP has failed to provide the Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to Delhi's women. That money, too, has simply vanished. The BJP government has demolished many jhuggis of the poor, leaving several families homeless. Now, the government has also imposed conditions on the free bus service,' Sunita Kejriwal charged. Launching a scathing attack on Sunita Kejriwal, Delhi BJP spokesperson and MLA Shikha Roy stated that it was surprising to see AAP convenor sent his wife, as the chief guest at the party's Teej celebration. This act, Roy said, confirmed that the AAP is a family-centric party and that his wife is being positioned as his political successor.
Roy added that if Kejriwal had wished, he could have chosen senior women leaders such as former chief minister Atishi, former Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla, or former Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi to be the chief guest. Instead, by selecting his wife, he disrespected the idea of independent women empowerment.
The BJP MLA said that it was unfortunate that, like her husband, Sunita Kejriwal chose to deliver her first political speech by 'spreading lies and misinformation'.
She asserted that Sunita Kejriwal's claim about conditions being imposed on free bus travel for women is entirely 'false'. 'Every state provides such facilities to its own residents, and all women residing in Delhi continue to receive free bus service — and will continue to do so,' she said. Roy also stated that the Delhi committee is formulating rules, and the women's honorarium scheme will be implemented soon.
She said that before questioning the BJP government's five-month tenure, Sunita Kejriwal should clarify when her party's government in Punjab will begin providing the promised Rs 1,000 monthly honorarium to women.
Sunita Kejriwal should explain why, even after three and a half years, women in Punjab have still not received this honorarium, Roy said. PTI SLB NB NB

Opposition to Punjab's land-pooling policy brings together farmers

Opposition to Punjab's land-pooling policy brings together farmers BATHINDA: Resistance to AAP-led Punjab government's land-pooling policy is acting as the glue to bring together fractured farm organisations and individual farmers beyond political affiliation, reports Neel Kamal. It appears to be rekindling farm struggles that seemed to be losing momentum - seeing that there was not much hue and cry after Punjab Police slammed shut the protests at Shambhu and Khanauri borders with Haryana. The Bhagwant Mann government has been trying to convince people that land-pooling scheme was beneficial to farmers but it hasn't been able to dispel farmers' apprehension of losing land. Individual farmers from villages where land is being 'pooled' - those so far not associated with farm organisations - are now turning towards them to oppose the scheme. The policy aims to pool over 40,000 acres of farmland to promote planned urban development. It's a land-for-land scheme, where landowners voluntarily give up land and are given developed residential and commercial plots in exchange. SKM's green light to its Punjab chapter to hold tractor rallies on July 30 in villages that are likely to be brought under land-pooling scheme has come as a boost to forces opposing the scheme. The national committee of KMM has also backed the SKM call, further emboldening resistance.

Public reps most trusted link between govt, people: Yogi

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that public representatives are the most trusted link between the people and the govt and their ideas and suggestions should be actively incorporated in policy planning and implementation. Holding a special dialogue with MLAs from Kanpur division at his official residence here on Sunday, the CM reviewed 1,362 proposed infrastructure projects worth Rs 10,914 crore and said that priorities should be set in consultation with public representatives to ensure swift and people-centric service delivery. Public representatives from six districts — Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, and Auraiya — were invited to participate in the session. "Ideas and suggestions of public representatives are not merely means of dialogue but also reflect public aspirations, which should be actively incorporated in policy planning and implementation," the CM said. He asked officials not to treat the experiences and regional insights of legislators as merely documentary inputs, but to use them as a living basis for policymaking. The CM directed the public works department (PWD) to set priorities for proposed work in consultation with local representatives and ensure timely commencement of projects. He described the initiatives not merely as govt expenditure but as "capital of public trust". The CM asked officials to ensure prompt approval and execution of projects prioritised by public representatives. He asked the urban development department officials to ensure that the names of local public representatives were included on foundation stones and plaques related to urban development work. Yogi also sought feedback on the ground realities, public expectations, progress of development work, and administrative coordination in their respective constituencies. "Kanpur division holds a vital place in the balanced and sustainable development of the state. It is not only the industrial and educational backbone of the state, but also a centre of cultural diversity, historical awareness, and political commitment of public representatives," Yogi said. Describing the Kanpur division as a "pioneer of development", Yogi expressed confidence that it would soon emerge as a model for not just Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country. Kanpur city is set to be gifted with 426 projects worth Rs 5,006 crore, followed by Farrukhabad (308 projects worth Rs 2,476 crore), Kanpur Dehat (336 projects worth Rs 1,214 crore), Kannauj (98 projects worth Rs 1,076 crore), Etawah (128 projects worth Rs 620 crore), and Auraiya (66 projects worth Rs 524 crore).

Migrant worker's son and wife beaten by Delhi police; Mamata Banerjee posts video

Kolkata July 27 (UNI): A migrant worker's wife and young son, who had travelled from West Bengal to Delhi in search of work, were allegedly assaulted by the police. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee protested against the incident by posting a video on social media. Launching an attack against the BJP-led Central Government and the ruling party in Delhi, she wrote, "Even a child is not spared from linguistic terrorism." In the video shared by the Chief Minister, a young man is seen showing injury marks on his young son's body, saying, "Look what they have done to my son. The police beat him and injured his forehead." He is also heard alleging in the video that all their essential belongings were thrown away. The man's wife also appears in the video. Pointing to her, the man says, "She too was beaten badly." However, the video has not been independently verified by UNIthand itr also does not have . Posting the video, the chief minister wrote, 'See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by BJP in the country against the Bengalis! Where are they taking our country now?' The Trinamool Congress has stepped up its protest following reports of harassment faced by migrant workers from Bengal working in other states. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also warned of a larger movement if harassment of migrant workers is not stopped. The allegation is that Bengali-speaking workers, suspected of being Bangladeshis, are being detained in BJP-ruled states like Odisha, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh—even after showing documents like Aadhaar and voter ID cards. In such cases, only a 'Police Clearance Certificate' (PCC) seems to secure their release; otherwise, they are being detained. The harassment of Bengali migrant workers in Delhi and Odisha has already reached the Calcutta High Court. Against this backdrop, the ruling party in West Bengal, Trinamool, has launched a 'language movement' against the BJP starting Sunday. Tomorow Mamata Banerjee is set to participate in the Nanur Dibas program in Birbhum and will also take part in a march. She is supposed to leave for Birbhum by road on Sunday evening. UNI XC SSP
