Man who robbed jewellery shop in Melaka detained public
Melaka Tengah Police Chief ACP Christopher Patit said the 27-year-old suspect was handed over by mem,bers of the public to a team of police officers at 12:30 pm.
'We received a call from an individual informing that a young man had been detained by the public after robbing a gold shop.
'Following that, a team of police officers from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) and D9 Branch of the Melaka Tengah District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) went to the scene to detain the suspect,' he said in a statement.
Christopher stated that a body search of the suspect also found five gold chains weighing approximately 15.35 grams and an iron hammer.
He added that an urine test found the suspect negative for drugs, and the young man was also sent to the Melaka Hospital for treatment for injuries to his legs, hands, and head before being placed in the lockup at Melaka Tengah Police Station for further investigations.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for robbery.

AGC to re-examine influencer's false report case
PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) will re-examine the case involving a motoring influencer who lodged a false police report claiming to be missing which led to a massive search and rescue operation in Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong just over a week ago. They pleaded guilty to lodging a false report under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. The case sparked public outrage among the influencer's followers and frustration among rescue personnel, including the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), whose divers carried out more than 10 high-risk dives in the murky river in search of the two men. Earlier, in an impact statement delivered in court, Fire and Rescue Zone 4 chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Norshuhada Amsari, who led the operation, described the accused's actions as an abuse of emergency resources. Duo jailed for stealing

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed five months by the Magistrate's Court here for stealing from a rented room. Md Shidee Jubri, 35, and Md Yusrain Yusof, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to stealing one unit of electric fan and two multi-purpose cookers belonging to Nur Ain Lo, at 4pm on July 11, in a unit at Padimas Point, Penampang. The duo was jointly charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction. The facts of the case, as presented by the prosecution, stated that the complainant discovered the door to her rented room wide open on the said day, with her belongings in disarray. Further checks revealed several of her items and documents belonging to her sister were missing. Acting on intelligence, a team from the Penampang District Police Headquarters arrested both Shidee and Yusrain at 1.20pm on July 17 at a car park in front of ITCC Mall, Penampang, in connection with the theft. Investigations confirmed that the duo had broken into the complainant's room and stolen the said items, which were later recovered from their rented room. The duo were ordered to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest. In a separate case, a woman was fined RM1,300 or jailed one month for having gambling paraphernalia. Nur Shahirah Syamin pleaded guilty to buying two unlicensed 'Wah Hui' lottery tickets at 2.35pm on July 9 at Indah Permai, Jalan Sepanggar. The charge under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, up to six months' jail, or both on conviction. The court found from the facts of the case that a police team conducted surveillance at the location and observed suspected illegal lottery activities before approaching a woman and uncovering paraphernalia related to the unlicensed Wah Hui lottery. The woman, later identified as Nur was arrested, and the gambling materials, including RM40 in cash, were seized from her. The court ordered the seized cash money to be forfeited as government revenue. Trader held for criminal intimidation

District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the arrest of the 64-year-old suspect, which took place on Wednesday. Jasmin said the victim was passing by a house when the suspect allegedly shouted profanities at him before proceeding to choke him, causing pain. The suspect was also reported to have grabbed the victim's shirt and uttered a threat saying, 'Not long before I gouge out your eyes,' prompting the victim to lodge a report.
