
81 iconic heritage sites form backfor International Yoga Day celebrations
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism embraced yoga at Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, while Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, participated at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Likewise, Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution participated in IYD at Group of Temples at Pattadakal, in Karnataka, while other key dignitaries were spotted performing yoga asanas at various locations across the country.
In fact, as part of the celebrations, several Union Ministers joined yoga sessions at various iconic ASI-protected monuments, reinforcing the significance of yoga as a national movement which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, said a statement from the Union Culture Ministry here.
It said that in a nationwide grand celebration of International Day of Yoga, 81 heritage sites under the aegis of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) hosted yoga sessions, organised in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Ayush on the D Day. The entry was free of cost to visitors to encourage their participation.
This year's theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', aims to promote the importance of holistic health and well-being globally. The celebrations were marked by the participation of people from all walks of life, including students, professionals, and families, all coming together to practice yoga and experience its health benefits.

Diet irony: Telangana counts its meals, not nutrition
Hyderabad: Have you ever wondered how many meals a person or family consumes in Telangana each month? For individuals, it would be between 80 and 86 meals, while families, on average, consume 232 to 310 meals a month in Telangana, according to the 'Nutrition Intake in India' report released by the Union ministry of statistics and implementation. Based on detailed data from 2023-2024, families in urban areas consumed an average of 262 meals per month, while families in rural areas consumed 304 meals in Telangana. Nationally, families consumed 279 meals in urban areas and 342 meals per month in rural areas. The data revealed that 6.8% of families in urban areas consumed less than 1,860 calories and nearly 50% of urban families consume more than 2,790 calories. With prevalence of anaemia increasing in the state, health experts said that there was need for greater awareness regarding daily meal composition, especially in rural areas. Dr Subodh Kandamuthan, director of Dr Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management at ASCI, said, 'There is a lot of ignorance in rural areas, especially regarding meal composition and what should be part of a healthy daily diet. Most importantly, we cannot assume that a low calorie count means people are suffering from malnutrition. Those with high calorie intake can also experience malnutrition if they don't receive all the necessary nutrients. Iron content is often lacking in our meals, highlighting the need for increased awareness in rural areas.'

Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana: Assessment camp of senior citizens at Bhavnagar hospital
An assessment camp for senior citizens under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana has been organised at Sir T Hospital in Bhavnagar. The camp, which started on June 30, will conclude on Thursday. It is an initiative by Union Minister of State (Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution) Nimuben Bambhaniya, who is also an MP from Bhavnagar-Botad constituency. As per an official release, during the first two days of the camp, 2,655 beneficiaries have been identified for assistive devices worth over Rs 43 lakh. The camp has been organised with the support of the Ujjain's production centre of Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), the release stated. Assistive devices like walking sticks, walkers, wheelchairs, hearing aids, artificial dentures, orthopaedic belts, commode chairs, etc. are provided free of cost to senior citizens aged above 60, it added. Similar camps will be held at different taluka centres of the Lok Sabha constituency between July 4 and 15.
