Gamuda awards Hitachi Rail for Taipei MRT project

KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd , the main contractor for the New Taipei City government's Department of Rapid Transit Systems (NTCG DORTS), has awarded Hitachi Rail a contract to deliver its Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. The contract also includes the delivery of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) solutions for the Xizhi-Donghu (Xidong) - Nangang-Badu (Keelung) MRT project, which connects New Taipei City and Keelung City in Taiwan. In a statement today, Hitachi Rail said that its involvement in this MRT project will bring innovation to Taipei's urban transit network. "The project will deploy SelTrac CBTC technology, a modern signalling system that uses wireless communication between trains and infrastructure to enable more efficient and safer operations than conventional systems. "The technology includes advanced communication features, a private cloud-based signalling platform and train control supervision to enhance overall system reliability and efficiency,' it said. In addition, Hitachi Rail said that the system will be equipped with advanced telemetry and data analytics to enhance automation and predictive maintenance, enabling long-term maintainability and operational excellence. "The project also involves implementing a SCADA system leveraging ALVEA, which offers modularity, scalability, maintainability and cloud readiness. "ALVEA enables seamless edge-to-cloud data flow, providing operators with remote access to insights via a unified portal or operational centres - improving flexibility and responsiveness,' it said. Hitachi Rail Taipei chairman and chief executive officer Cyrille Bataille said the company is pleased to continue its commitment to delivering high-quality solutions to NTCG DORTS in partnership with Gamuda. Meanwhile, Gamuda regional director Eric Foong Vooi Lin said the group is excited to collaborate with Hitachi Rail and views the company as a key long-term partner in Taiwan and the region. "It is poised to continue making its mark as a global rail systems integrator with expertise in managing complex, multi-disciplinary rail projects across the entire lifecycle,' he said. Gamuda said that the group's comprehensive systems capabilities seamlessly integrate all critical components, from civil works and track systems to advanced Integrated Communication Control Systems (ICCS), power supply and electrification, communications, mechanical and electrical systems, and rolling stock. "These integrated capabilities enable the group to deliver turnkey solutions for flawless railway operations,' it said. Gamuda said that it has a proven track record in regional markets, having delivered major projects such as Malaysia's transformative 329-kilometre Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP), the MRT Kajang and Putrajaya Lines, and Australia's cutting-edge METRONET High-Capacity Signalling Project. It added that these accomplishments underscore the group's expertise in managing complex rail infrastructure across varied technical and regulatory environments. - Bernama
