Call to make Eluru a drug-free district
Along with district Superintendent of Police K Pratap Siva Kishore, she presented prizes to the winners of the two-day cricket competition organised as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan awareness programme at the Ashram Hospital playground on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, she appealed to the youth not to indulge in drugs which can ruin their bright future. If they are not addicted to drugs, they can reach a higher level in life. Awareness programmes are being conducted on the ill-effects of drug use as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Drug use leads to serious social, mental and physical problems. Keeping this in mind, the central and state governments are undertaking various programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to combat drug abuse. Information related to drug abuse can be reported to the toll-free numbers 1972 and 14446. Along with education, the youth should also give priority to sports. The Collector said that sports provide physical and mental development and also help in staying away from addictions like drugs.
Superintendent of Police Pratap Siva Kishore said that everyone should be aware of the problem of drug use. Drug use leads to an increase in the crime rate and also has a detrimental effect on the society as a whole, and in view of this, a multi-faceted movement should be taken up to solve this problem. He said that the youth should especially focus on education instead of getting involved in drugs.
He said that the 'Eagle' teams and the police department are jointly conducting various programmes and inspections to inform about the ill-effects of drugs and prevent their use. He said that everyone should have sportsmanship, through which they will gain self-confidence to solve any problem in life.
On this occasion, collector Vetriselvi and SP Pratap Siva Kishore presented prizes to the players of the Police team that won first place, the Judicial team that won second place, and the Revenue team that won third place in the cricket competitions.
District Revenue Officer V Visveswara Rao, DSDO B Srinivasa Rao, AD of the Department of Welfare of the Differently-abled and Elderly V Ram Kumar, and others participated.

"Always been our priority": CMO Ramban on preparations for Amarnath Yatra
Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 29 (ANI): The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Ramban district, Kamal Jee Zadoo, shared details about the preparations for the Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on July 3, stating that the Yatra remains a top priority for the administration. The CMO confirmed that 17 medical camps will be established en route to the Amarnath Yatra in Ramban, which will have a 'mini hospital' similar to those hospitals that will offer medical and diagnostic facilities. 'Amarnath yatra has always been our priority. We will have 17 medical camps (en route to the Amarnath Yatra in Ramban district)... We will also have a mini-hospital, similar to those hospitals, which will offer beds and diagnostic facilities', CMO Ramban told ANI. Furthermore, the Ramban CMO highlighted that the 'mini hospital' will be equipped with cardiac monitoring systems. Ambulance services will also be available for devotees, supported by a mobile medical team. 'We will also have a cardiac monitoring system... Ambulance facilities will also be provided during the Yatra with a mobile team - it's a new initiative that we are taking during this year's Yatra,' he said. On June 28, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to take place from July 1 to August 9, a release stated. The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved. It was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range, Sarah Rizvi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu base camp on July 2, Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on Friday. BL Verma attends 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' event on International Day against Drug Abuse in New Delhi
New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): Union Minister BL Verma attended the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' programme organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in New Delhi on Thursday, as per a press release. While speaking at the event, he said, 'Repercussions of substance use are not confined to the individual and his family; they ripple outward, affecting communities and contributing to broad societal changes and social stigma.' According to the official statement, the Minister highlighted and appreciated the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) scheme of the Ministry and explained how the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) has helped reduce the demand for drugs. He hailed the efforts of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, in which the message - 'Say No to Drugs and Say Yes to Life' - would play a seminal role. The event took place at Bhim Auditorium, Dr Ambedkar International Centre, 15 Janpath, New Delhi, and began at 11:00 am. The programme aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and strengthen the government's ongoing fight against substance abuse. As per the release, the nukkad natak and pantomime performance during the event enlightened the audience on how substance use disorder is an issue that is adversely affecting the social fabric of the country. Dependence on any substance not only affects the individual's health but also disrupts their families and the whole society. Regular consumption of various psychoactive substances leads to dependence in the individual. Some substance compounds may lead to neuro-psychiatric disorders, cardiovascular diseases, as well as accidents, suicides and violence. Substance use and dependence need to be viewed as a psycho-social-medical problem, and the performances highlighted. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is the nodal Ministry for drug demand reduction in the country. It has initiated the ambitious Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), which is currently operational in all districts of the country with an aim to create awareness about ill effects of substance abuse among the youth, with special focus on higher education institutes, university campuses, schools and reaching out into the community and garnering community involvement and ownership of the Abhiyaan, as per the official statement. The programme witnessed the participation of approximately 700 stakeholders, including Ministry officials, representatives of central ministries, spiritual organisations, academic institutions, NGOs/Voluntary Organisations, corporate entities, and youth volunteers. As a run-up to the day, all states/UTs and NGOs/VOs supported by the Department under NAPDDR across the country were requested to organise and conduct awareness programmes/events under NMBA from June 1st to 26th, 2025. With this programme, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment ensures to reach out to the Abhiyaan in the whole Country as Jan Andolan, as per the release. Each year, 26th June is observed as the 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking'. This year, the event included cultural programmes on drug prevention, mass pledge to create awareness about the importance of prevention and treatment of drug abuse, distribution of prizes to the winners of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan competitions organised on MyGov, etc. (ANI)
