anti-obesity drug market in India
, with
tirzepatide
and
semaglutide
(generic names) collectively occupying 75% of the market share.
Doctors see Eli Lilly's Mounjaro and Novo Nordisk's Wegovy as important ammunitions in the anti-obesity treatment.
However, experts also point out the risk of the drug being misused by many — especially young adults — amplied by aggressive marketing, widespread social media promotions and a growing peer pressure driven by the weight loss fad.

Special drive to monitor stunting among kids at Noida anganwadi centres
N oida/Ghaziabad: A focused campaign has been launched to curb stunting and other forms of child malnutrition in GB Nagar and Ghaziabad districts, under the Sambhav Abhiyan 5.0. A total of 100 anganwadi centres in each district have been identified for close monitoring, based on the concentration of children under five showing signs of stunted growth. The campaign, which began on July 15 and will continue until July 31, focuses on growth measurement and real-time data verification. The aim is to identify children suffering from chronic malnutrition, update their health status on the nutrition tracker, and implement timely interventions, officials said. Previously, TOI had reported that, in GB Nagar, 789 children under the age of six were identified as severely acutely malnourished (SAM), and another 3,394 children were classified as moderately acutely malnourished (MAM). Local bodies can euthanise sick & dangerous strays
Thiruvananthapuram: In a controversial move, a high-level meeting chaired by local self-govt minister M B Rajesh here on Wednesday decided to allow local bodies to euthanise severely ill or dangerous stray dogs. The meeting, co-chaired by animal husbandry minister Chinchurani, was convened to address the rising stray dog menace in state. A health department report had put the number of dog bite cases between Jan and April this year at 1,31,244. Sixteen deaths due to dog bites occurred between Jan and May 2025, five of them despite vaccination. There were 26 deaths in 2024 and 25 in 2023. Rajesh said local self-govt institutions (LSGIs) could carry out euthanasia, provided a veterinary doctor certified the animal as "dangerous or hopelessly ill." The govt's decision relies on provisions in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Animal Husbandry Practices and Procedures) Rules, 2023. According to the ministers, Section 8 of these rules permits euthanasia if an animal is dangerous, terminally ill or poses a risk of spreading disease. The law also allows the killing of an injured or ailing animal if prolonging its life would amount to cruelty, taking into account its suffering and the potential threat it poses to other animals or people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ED? Not For Today's Senior Men Men's Health Learn More Undo Rajesh said the govt was compelled to explore these provisions as the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules impose severe restrictions on managing the stray dog population. He said the state would continue to seek relaxation of these rules to help ABC activities gain momentum. Citing public protests against ABC centres as a major hurdle, he warned of strict action against those disrupting their operations. To tackle public opposition to permanent ABC units, the govt plans to deploy mobile units. Rajesh said efforts would be made to fast-track pet dog licensing. The vaccination drive for stray dogs is scheduled for Aug, followed by the registration and vaccination of pet dogs in Sept, he added.

FSSAI wants faster establishment of food safety lab in Bikaner
Jaipur: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI ) Wednesday stressed the need to speed up the establishment of a food safety laboratory in Bikaner and assured FSSAI's support for this purpose. FSSAI chief executive officer G Kamala Vardhana Rao held a meeting with health department officials in Jaipur. He appreciated the efforts of the state govt in promoting food safety and combating food adulteration. He also directed officials to ensure continuous monitoring to strengthen enforcement while emphasising the need for the prompt disposal of pending food adulteration cases. "Samples of commonly consumed food items such as ghee, milk, paneer, and spices should be collected regularly, and the related cases must be disposed of promptly," said Rao while addressing state food safety officials during a state review meeting held in Jaipur. During the review, Rao said FSSAI assessed efforts being undertaken under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, to prevent adulteration, including pending legal cases, manpower deployment, and other critical aspects. The importance of concluding adjudication within 90 days of the first hearing of the case, as mandated by the FSS Act 2006, was also discussed in the meeting. The meeting was attended by additional district magistrates of various districts who are responsible and appointed as adjudication officers for handling food adulteration-related cases. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cách giao dịch ETH/USD mà không cần nắm giữ Ether IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The CEO took stock of the vacant food safety officer (FSO) positions in the state and advised that these be filled at the earliest.
