Jacksonville Jaguars DL Maason Smith placed on active/PUP list ahead of training camp
Players are placed on active/PUP ahead of camp for football-related injuries and are unable to participate in practice. However, they can participate in other team activities. The players count against the active roster limit during camp and can be activated from the list at any point during camp if they are medically cleared.
In addition to Smith, the team placed linebacker Dennis Gardeck on the team's active/PUP list over the weekend. Gardeck was signed as an unrestricted free agent earlier this spring. He sustained a late-season knee injury (ACL) last year as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.
ROOKIES REPORT: Jaguars rookies report training camp. What to watch from Travis Hunter, others
The news came hours after the team's veterans reported for camp. The Jaguars are set to hit the practice fields on Wednesday, May 23. Jaguars rookies reported for camp over the weekend.
Smith, drafted in the second round in 2024, is expected to have a major role with the team this season and moving forward. Smith had a shaky start to his rookie campaign. He was a healthy scratch in Week 2 and was sidelined for five other contests in part due to a lingering ankle injury.
When he returned, Smith played with more consistency. He totaled two sacks, 12 tackles, three quarterback hits and two pass breakups in six games. Smith played in 11 total games (five starts), accounting for 17 tackles, three tackles for loss, four quarterback hits and three sacks.

'Lawal looked like Beckham'
Stoke City manager Mark Robins said Bosun Lawal could feature in a number of positions during the upcoming Championship campaign after an injury-hit debut season with the side. The Irishman joined the Potters in August 2024 but was sidelined for much of the season with a back injury, playing just seven Championship games. But the versatile Lawal, who can play in defence or midfield, is keen to make a bigger impact this campaign and his performances in pre-season are certainly catching the eye of his boss. "There's bits and pieces where [Lawal] looks fantastic at times," Robins told BBC Radio Stoke following the 1-1 friendly draw with Premier League side Wolves on Saturday. "His feet are brilliant. He looked like [David] Beckham, coming out with the ball as well. "He can play anywhere with the feet that he's got. They are quite soft and he's got a really good touch. He can finish, as you saw on Wednesday evening [when he scored in the 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra]. "He's worked his socks off this pre-season and gives himself every chance. His build and his qualities make him a welcome addition to the squad." Listen to the full post-match interview with Mark Robins and more on BBC Sounds.

Lionel Messi, wife Antonela Roccuzzo 'caught' on Coldplay 'Kiss Cam'
Lionel Messi and his wife get the Coldplay spotlight, not like that other couple. Messi and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, were briefly serenaded by Coldplay during a concert in Miami on Sunday, July 27. Messi and his wife attended the show at Hard Rock Stadium, and found themselves in the spotlight – far from that one viral Coldplay moment. "Well, Leo, my beautiful brother. You and your wife are looking so fine," Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sang. "Thanks for coming today, to see our band play. The No. 1 sports person of all time." Messi, who doesn't speak English, appeared to understand Coldplay's tribute. He smiled, waved and clapped in response with his arm around his wife. They attended the concert with their three sons Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro. Messi, the Argentine World Cup champion playing with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, returns to action on Wednesday, July 30, when his team begins the 2025 Leagues Cup tournament against Mexican club Atlas at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Wales defender Woodham signs for Liverpool
Wales defender Lily Woodham has joined Liverpool following her departure from Seattle Reign. Woodham, who started all Wales' games at Euro 2025, left Reign over the weekend having joined the National Women's Soccer League club in 2024. The 24-year-old left-back spent most of the 2024-25 season on loan at Crystal Palace, making 20 appearances in the Women's Super League. Woodham returns to the English top flight on a permanent basis after joining a Reds side who finished seventh last season. "I'm a fan of Liverpool so it's a dream come true really," Woodham told the Merseyside club's website. "I'm really excited to meet everyone. It already feels like a home from home and everyone has been so nice to me and welcomed me. "I just want to bring everything I can to the team and always give my all in games and training." Woodham, who is Liverpool's fourth signing of the summer, joins fellow Wales internationals Gemma Evans and Ceri Holland at the Merseyside club.
