In addition to Smith, the team placed linebacker Dennis Gardeck on the team's active/PUP list over the weekend. Gardeck was signed as an unrestricted free agent earlier this spring. Jaguars LB Dennis Gardeck placed on active/PUP
The Jaguars placed linebacker Dennis Gardeck on the active/physically unable to perform list, the team announced Saturday. Gardeck, who signed with the Jaguars last month, can return to the 90-player roster once he passes his physical. He tore the ACL in his right knee on a punt play in a game for the Cardinals against the Chargers last October. It is the same knee he injured in 2020. Gardeck finished his seventh NFL season with 20 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception. Gardeck made the Cardinals' roster as an undrafted free agent out of Division II Sioux Falls in 2018. He totaled 156 tackles, 17 sacks, two interceptions, seven pass breakups and three forced fumbles in seven seasons in Arizona.

What does Dennis Gardeck offer the Jaguars?
The Jaguars went from desperately needing a rotational edge rusher for years to having a surplus after the team signed both Emmanuel Ogbah and Dennis Gardeck. Gardeck, 30, has spent his entire career serving as the Cardinals' rotational piece. Now, after seven years in Arizona, Gardeck looks to join a talented group in Jacksonville. In his seven years, Gardeck has tallied 17.0 career sacks, 23 TFLs, and 156 combined tackles. Advertisement While Gardeck may not be piling on the sack numbers, there's a reason Arizona kept him around for so long. Of his 17 sacks, 13 of them came in just two seasons, seven in 2020 and six in 2023. Gardeck totaled three last season as well in just seven games played. >>> STREAM ACTION SPORTS JAX 24/7 LIVE <<< That said, Gardeck only played seven games in 2024. He did, however, rack up 42 pressures in 2023. His 42 pressures led the team, despite not being listed as a full-time starter. Gardeck's 17.9% pass-rush win rate ranked 13th among 98 qualifying edge rushers. Dennis Gardeck is solid outside of rushing the passer as well. In spite of not seeing full-time snaps, Gardeck's 27 defensive stops tied Travon Walker in 2023, according to ProFootballFocus. Advertisement Liam Coen spoke highly of Gardeck after the signing. He got to see Gardeck's impact firsthand during his time with the Rams. 'Yeah, just a ton of respect for the player competing against him two times a year in L.A. since 2018,' Coen said. 'Every time we would go play the Arizona Cardinals, he was on the game-wrecker board.' Coen continued, 'We would always kind of introduce the game wreckers to the players. And he was on there, whether it was originally for special teams, and then also for rushing the passer and creating some disruption. It just gives us somebody a little bit different kind of style rusher, special teams demon.' Not only do the Jaguars finally have that much-needed third edge-rusher to spare Josh Hines-Allen and Walker, they have a fourth now as well. Gardeck might not rack up double-digit sacks, but he allows the Jaguars to keep their two starters fresh without feeling pressured to keep them on the field. Advertisement It's icing on the cake that Gardeck is a special-teams ace as well. It's clear Jaguars' GM James Gladstone is never satisfied with the status quo and is always on the lookout for how he can make this Jaguars roster better. Signs these unsigned Arizona Cardinals free agents won't return
The Arizona Cardinals have a full offseason roster and appear to be done with free agency. They still have a number of their own free agents who remain unsigned. While we detailed how one small detail shows that the door is still open for offensive lineman Will Hernandez to re-sign (they have not assigned his No. 76 to any other player), it would appear that the same detail suggests that some key free agents will not be returning. Advertisement Those players are linebackers Kyzir White, Jesse Luketa and Dennis Gardeck. White and Gardeck, both of whom have been team captains, were starters. However, White's No. 7 jersey has been assigned to backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, while Gardeck's No. 45 was given to undrafted rookie tight end Oscar Cardenas. Gardeck is rehabbing a torn ACL. Luketa finished the season with a calf injury on injured reserve. While he was a solid special teams player and developed as a defensive player, he was not tendered as a restricted free agent and has not been signed by anyone. His No. 43 was given to free agent linebacker Mykal Walker. Advertisement Who is the one Cardinals free agent outside of Hernandez whose uniform is still available? Linebacker Krys Barnes, who wore No. 51. That uniform is still available, although his return seems unlikely with the addition of Walker and Akeem Davis-Gaither in free agency and Cody Simon in the draft.
