ITV bosses have admitted that they used artificial intelligence as part of the casting process for reality series Love Island.
Fans of the dating show have long accused bosses of picking copycat Islanders, including this year's Irish actress Megan Forte Clarke who was deemed a lookalike of show star Maura Higgins.

Irish model Maura, 34, appeared in series 5 in 2019 and has since gone on to appear in I'm a Celebrity.
Now ITV has revealed automated technology has been used to help whittle down the thousands of applications.
Boss Carolyn McCall said: 'We will use AI in any way we can to make what we do more efficient. Studios used it for Love Island and casting this year, and the team rated it eight out of ten.'
An ITV production source said the tool was not used to make any final decisions — but that it assisted with handling audition footage.
The revelation comes amid viewer outcry over the shock return of Megan, 24, to the series on Wednesday, despite her being evicted just three weeks in.
The musical theatre performer lost her place in the Mallorca villa after viewers voted her the least 'favourite girl'.
One fan ranted on X: 'The fact she's on my TV when I voted her out? What happened to democracy?'
Another said they had lodged a complaint with Ofcom and said: 'Megan has been out of that villa for weeks and had the chance to read all of the public's opinions and it's so close to the end she's pretty much guaranteed a spot in the final.'
She returned with Spanish lad Blu, who was also dumped earlier in the series.
Fans are not charged to take part in voting for Love Island on ITV's dedicated mobile phone app.
Love Island fans slam dumped villa boy as they spot moment his 'mask slipped' in 'nasty' rant
But the voting terms and conditions state: 'The producers of the programme may in their discretion introduce an Islander seen in earlier stages of the competition who was previously evicted.'
Meanwhile, broadcaster ITV has reported a 44 per cent drop in half-year pre-tax profits to £99million, down from £178million last year.
Advertising revenues have fallen by seven per cent.
Following swingeing cuts to its daytime shows GMB, Lorraine and Loose Women earlier this year, ITV now plans to cut an extra £15million in costs — on top of the £30million already outlined.

Love Island star Dejon comforts Helena and reveals shock over best friend Harry's actions after explosive Grafties
LOVE Islander Dejon comforted Helena after being left shocked by his best mate Harry's antics during the show's explosive Grafties. Dejon and Harry have had a close bond throughout their time in the villa with Harry consistently backing Dejon during his almost-daily arguments with villa partner, Meg. 4 Helena was left stunned to see how Harry had been acting behind her back Credit: Eroteme 4 Dejon lent back and extended his arm to check in on Helena Credit: Eroteme 4 But fans also noticed how Dejon failed to back Harry Credit: Eroteme However, during the Grafties, Dejon failed to back Harry as his antics regarding his feelings for Shakira, Helena and Emma were finally exposed. During a tense moment, Helena was left emotional as she came to terms with the fact that Harry had not been honest with her regarding his conversations with the other girls. Helena said to her after watching a clip shown: "I didn't expect you to be sat with your ex-girlfriend talking about getting back into bed with her. "You just don't shut things down. You entertain everyone and everything." In a tender moment, Dejon extended his arm to comfort Helena and check that she was okay whilst keeping notably silent on Harry's actions. It led many fans to comment on how Dejon had failed to stick up for Harry despite the 30-year-old having always backed Dejon during his wrongs in the past. One eagle-eyed viewer said: "So Dejon can't back Harry but Harry is always backing Dejon for what he does an doesn't do interesting…" Another added: "D seeing that 50k and now wants nothing to do with Harry yet he was the one egging him on lol." A third picked up on the instance as they surmised: "Dejon pretending to be shocked at Harry's behaviour when he's been complicit in the f***ery." Someone else chimed in to add: "Why's Dejon pretending like he didn't know about any of Harry's behaviour when the two of them have been egging each other on for six whole weeks." Love Island's Helena finally dumps 'disgusting' Harry with eight-word jibe
Love Island stars including Megan, Meg, Shakira and Helena all turned on Harry on the ITV2 series on Friday night, leading to Helena declaring they were over in the villa It was the moment Love Island fans had been waiting for, as Harry was finally exposed to the villa for his actions that had caused drama between the girls for weeks - leading to a split. Playing Shakira and Helena against each other time and time again, he sat back as Helena and Shakira took the triangle drama out on each other. Shakira had been left devastated after feeling isolated in recent weeks, targeted by some of the girls. Just this week Helena and Harry went exclusive, and not even a day later Harry was hinting to Dejon how he still liked Shakira. He also hinted he wasn't that into Helena, before appearing to try and pick a fight with her at the Grafties. Shakira has already made it clear she didn't want Harry back, but she was struggling to move past their situation. But the hurt was only worsened by Harry constantly flirting with her despite his romance with Helena. Helena finally learned of Harry's comments and his actions behind her back this week, with Friday night seeing her have some clarity. She soon ended things for good, for now, and an eight-word message sealed this split as enough was enough. His comments about "loving" his ex Emma and him flirting with others, not to mention his chats with Shakira, all played out. He also made a comment about having a better experience with Shakira than Helena. Helena got more and more furious with what she was seeing, in disbelief as the other Islanders were open mouthed as the truth played out. Harry was also shown saying how he wanted to hang out with Shakira outside of the villa, in two separate clips. As it all got too much, a stunned Helena called Harry "a f*****g joke". She then told him: "Shakira doesn't want you, I don't want you." With that the other Islanders smirked as Helena appeared to end things. Helena also told him he was going to end up alone. He still didn't seem to want to own it all though, replying to Helena: "I was alone coming in here." Megan called Harry out to everyone, making it abundantly clear "he was the problem." She told everyone how Shakira and Helena have been clashing for weeks when Harry was "the common denominator" the entire time, and was the real issue. Harry did admit this and claimed it was all his fault, but again repeated that if he goes home alone so be it. Viewers were divided over the scenes, pleased to see Harry face his downfall but also confused given Helena "knew" what he was like, and some of the stuff he'd been up to. They commented about her being witness to some of his behaviour, so they didn't know why now was the time to end it. Helena referenced this though, saying it had taken things to happen too many times but it finally reached a point where enough was enough. As she and Harry spoke, Helena said she felt "like a f*****g idiot". She said: "I've backed you the whole time we've been in here." Helena wanted to apologise to Harry's ex Emma for how she treated her, allowing her to think she was "deluded" with thinking Harry could get back with her, not realising he'd led her on. She told him: "This is what you do to people Harry," as he tried to defend his actions. Harry then confessed he still liked Shakira but he "wasn't gonna be with her", to which Helena said: "I don't wanna be with you either". With that she stormed off, leaving him alone as she joined the other Islanders. She was then told by Conor how Harry had said moments earlier he saw Helena as a friend. As the girls and boys discussed what happened, they slammed him for ruining the experience for Shakira and Helena. Dejon turned his back on him, and the girls suggested Harry needed to leave. Harry ended up sleeping outside in the garden.
