Ryan Murphy's 'Monster' Season 4 Will Focus on a Female Protagonist

Elle6 days ago
Though Season 3 of Netflix's Monster hasn't premiered yet, Season 4 is already in the works. If you need a refresher: Season 1 starred Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, and season 2 followed the Menendez brothers (played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch). The upcoming third season, which is slated to premiere sometime this year, is set to star Charlie Hunnam as the serial killer Ed Gein. Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams will also reportedly round out that cast.
Now, here's everything we know about season 4 of Ryan Murphy's anthology series.
According to Variety, a source shared that season 4 will focus on Lizzie Borden. Borden (1860-1927) lived in Massachusetts and was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe, but she was later acquitted of the deadly crimes. After her acquittal, Borden continued to live in Fall River, MA, until she died of pneumonia in her late 60s.
Borden's story has previously been immortalized on the screen in the 2015 series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles starring Christina Ricci as Borden and the 2018 film Lizzie starring Chloë Sevigny as the titular character, and Kristen Stewart as Bridget Sullivan, the Borden's live-in maid and Lizzie's close confidant.
The cast for season 4 has not yet been announced.
Season 4 is potentially set to begin production this fall, but Netflix has not yet renewed Monster for a fourth season, per Variety.
This story will be updated.

Tom Holland Teases Which Former ‘Spider-Man' Film Embodies the New Movie

Tom Holland Teases Which Former 'Spider-Man' Film Embodies the New Movie originally appeared on Parade. Tom Holland is pumping up fans ahead of the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day release and revealed which of the franchise's movies the new project is similar to. 'I'm obviously over the moon and so excited,' Tom, 29, told Variety in a story published on Monday, July 14. 'Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages.' Now that there are no restrictions on travel, the English actor shared that they are 'gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we're starting in Glasgow.' Tom seemingly teased that there may be an epic fight scene in the Scotland-based city, noting, 'We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.' After gushing over the filmmaking process, Tom shared that Spider-Man 4 will feel like 'making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again.' 'It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air,' he continued. 'I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together.' Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to release on July 31, 2026. While the Marvel film's plot details have remained in the vault, fans can get hyped with the cast. Audience members are expecting Zendaya to reprise her role as MJ and Jacob Batalon to return as Ned, although no official announcement has been made. However, the cast allegedly gained a major player as Deadline previously reported that Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink is making her Marvel debut in the movie. 'No. I see a lot of rumors too. They've been really cool to read,' Sadie, 23, told Deadline in May. 'I love the Marvel Universe. I mean they're awesome rumors.' James Gunn Got Bradley Cooper for ‘Superman' Cameo Because He Needed ‘Somebody That Could Walk In the Footsteps of Marlon Brando'

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains minor spoilers for 'Superman,' in theaters now. James Gunn has high praise for Bradley Cooper, which is why he needed him for a very important cameo in 'Superman.' More from Variety James Gunn Says He's 'Incredibly Grateful' For Successful Opening of 'Superman': 'A Hopeful Testament to the Kindness and Quality of Human Beings' David Zaslav Champions New DC Universe and 'Bold 10-Year Plan' After 'Superman' Box Office Victory: 'The Vision Is Clear. The Momentum Is Real' Box Office: 'Superman' Flies to $217 Globally, 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Crosses $500 Million, 'Lilo & Stitch' Hits $994 Million In the opening moments of the DC tentpole, Cooper appears as Jor-El, the father of Superman. The role was first brought to the big screen by legendary actor Marlon Brando in the original 1978 'Superman.' During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gunn said he cast Cooper with Brando's performance in mind, knowing he could keep with the foremost portrayal of Jor-El. 'I needed somebody who could play Jor-El, who had the stature of what we imagine that character to be,' Gunn explained. 'Somebody that could walk in the footsteps of Marlon Brando.' Gunn previously collaborated with Cooper on the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' trilogy, in which the 'Silver Linings Playbook' star played Rocket Raccoon. The director said on an episode of 'Jake's Takes' that the relationship he formed with Cooper during those films made it easy to lock him in for 'Superman.' 'He's a friend,' Gunn said. 'We've stayed in close contact since the 'Guardians' movies, and I admire him greatly as an actor and as a director.' Gunn added that he called Cooper and asked, 'Hey, will you do me a favor? Come down, go to England, we're going to shoot you in a 3D environment, make a hologram of you, and you can play Jor-El.' David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult lead the cast of Gunn's 'Superman' as the titular Man of Steel and the villainous Lex Luthor, respectively. Other cast members include Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner) and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl).
