Neeraj Bawana visits wife under tight security
The 35-year-old gangster, who is involved in over 30 cases of murder and extortion and runs a gang from inside the jail, was only allowed to meet his wife and a doctor.
Bawana, who was one of the most wanted criminals, was arrested in 2015 by the Special Cell. According to police, he had links with Fazal Ur Rehman, a close associate of gangster Dawood, and gangsters who had ties with Canada-based fugitive Arsh Dalla and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani activist who was killed in Canada in 2023.
On Monday, the high court granted Bawana custodial parole from 10am to 4pm after verifying the medical condition of his wife.
On Tuesday morning, jail officials were instructed to bring Bawana out of his cell by 9.30-9.45 am. In the next 15-20 minutes, a team of 15 additional police personnel went inside the prison to take his custody. Meanwhile, more than 25 personnel were deployed on the route from the central jail to RLKC Hospital in Pandav Nagar.
Bawana reached the hospital at around 10.30am, and was escorted inside the premises with videographers and armed guards around.
'We know that he has been running a gang from inside the jail. He also killed two undertrials inside a jail van when they were in judicial custody. There was also a threat to his life. He is only allowed to meet his wife and a doctor. He can't talk to anyone else,' said a senior officer of the Delhi Armed Police.
Special units, Delhi Police's Third Battalion and the district police staff were also deployed to also monitor any suspicious activity.
The court on Monday noted that Bawana is a 'high-risk undertrial' and granted him custodial parole on the condition that none of the family members was allowed to be around his wife in the Intensive Care Unit when he visits her.
'The Superintendent Jail is directed to make adequate security arrangements, particularly, keeping in mind the status of the petitioner (Bawana), who is a high-risk undertrial, to ensure that he is in a position to meet his ailing wife at RLKC Metro Hospital, Pandav Nagar, Delhi...During such custody parole, the petitioner/applicant would be permitted to meet his ailing wife and to consult the concerned doctor(s) only,' the court said in the order.
According to the police, Bawana's 30-year-old wife is suffering from a severe/recurrent vision loss, excruciating headache, severe vomiting, loss of power on the right side of the hand with severe tingling and numbness of the right upper limb.
Another senior officer said that Bawana had to be released since none of the couple's family members agreed to help. 'It was a love marriage and everyone was opposed to it. So, the families are not helping the couple,' he said.
Meanwhile, two men were detained at the hospital at around 2.30pm under 'suspicion'. On interrogation, they said that they wanted to meet Bawana, police said.
'We detained them and sent them to the local staff who are checking their criminal records. The duo later alleged they just wanted to see how Bawana looks…' said a special cell officer, asking not to be named.
At 4pm, Bawana was escorted back to Tihar jail where he was readmitted to his cell, police said

Latest LIVE: Heavy rains batter Himachal; 37 dead, ₹400 cr worth of damage estimated
Torrential rains have once again disrupted life across Himachal Pradesh, leaving more than 37 people dead and causing property damage worth over ₹400 crore, according to the State Disaster Management Authority. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the state until July 7, as monsoon showers continue to lash several regions. Officials from the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and the Revenue Department said the state has recorded losses exceeding ₹400 crore due to relentless rainfall. Rescue, relief, and search operations are in full swing, particularly in Mandi district, which remains the worst affected. Several roads in the region are blocked, and essential services have been disrupted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his first official visit to Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday (local time), where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Piarco International Airport. He was received by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, along with 38 ministers and four Members of Parliament from the Caribbean nation. This marks Modi's first visit to Trinidad and Tobago as Prime Minister, and the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country since 1999. The visit is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. During his two-day visit from July 3 to 4, Modi is scheduled to meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar to further strengthen bilateral ties. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has barred US-based trading firm Jane Street from accessing Indian securities markets for alleged manipulation. In an interim order, Sebi also directed the high-frequency trading firm to disgorge ₹4,844 crore in 'unlawful' gains. The ban will remain in effect until the firm complies with the order to surrender the alleged illegal profits. Sebi's investigation found that Jane Street was responsible for a substantial share of net buying in the 12 Bank Nifty component stocks and their futures. This 'burst of buying' was aimed at influencing the prices of these securities, enabling the firm to take significantly larger and more profitable positions in the highly liquid index options segment.

Jane Street banned in India! How US trading entity allegedly manipulated index closing on expiry days
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has barred US-based trading firm Jane Street and three of its affiliated entities from accessing Indian securities markets, citing allegations of large-scale manipulation in the derivatives trading. The entities named in SEBI's interim order include JSI2 Investments Private Ltd, Jane Street Singapore Pte. Ltd, and Jane Street Asia Trading Ltd. SEBI has also directed the entities to deposit ₹ 4,843.5 crore — alleged to be illegal gains — into an escrow account maintained by the regulator. Additionally, a debit freeze has been imposed on their bank accounts. According to SEBI's Whole Time Member Ananth Narayan G, the Jane Street Group is alleged to have engaged in manipulative trades on at least 21 occasions involving securities forming part of the Nifty and Bank Nifty indices. 'Such actions have compromised market fairness and integrity, allowing the group to unlawfully profit from their trading activities and positions in the index options market,' the Sebi order dated 3 July 2025 said. SEBI's order outlines a recurring trading pattern allegedly used by the Jane Street entities, particularly on index expiry days. The strategy involved large-scale purchases of Bank Nifty futures and equities in the morning, paired with aggressive selling of Bank Nifty options. This would be followed by significant selling in the futures market post-noon, thereby impacting the closing level of the index. For instance, on January 17, 2024, Jane Street reportedly bought Bank Nifty futures worth ₹ 4,370 crore and sold Bank Nifty options worth ₹ 32,115 crore in the morning session. Later in the day, it sold Bank Nifty futures worth ₹ 5,372 crore. These trades resulted in a peak short position of ₹ 46,620 crore in the options segment. Jane Street allegedly booked a profit of ₹ 735 crore in options while incurring a loss of ₹ 61.6 crore in futures and cash segments, leading to a net gain of ₹ 673.4 crore on that day. SEBI also highlighted another strategy wherein Jane Street allegedly created large short positions in Bank Nifty futures and constituent stocks during the final hours of trading on expiry days to influence index closing. On July 10, 2024, the firm reportedly sold Bank Nifty futures worth ₹ 2,800 crore and created short positions in Bank Nifty options worth ₹ 44,154 crore, leading to a softer index close and a profit of ₹ 225 crore. The regulator observed a consistent pattern across multiple trading sessions, concluding that these were not routine transactions but instances of manipulation in violation of SEBI's Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices (PFUTP) regulations. Despite being aware of SEBI's ongoing investigation, Jane Street allegedly continued to deploy similar strategies. On May 15, 2025, and on two other occasions in the same month, the firm reportedly purchased Nifty futures and underlying stocks worth ₹ 4,911 crore in the final hours of trade to influence expiry-day closing levels.
