Ahead of its stunning first-round NCAA tournament upset over Clemson, McNeese was in the headlines for head coach Will Wade reportedly agreeing to take the job at NC State after the Cowboys' March Madness run is finished.
McNeese is also drawing attention during its tournament run for more fun and endearing reasons. Student manager Amir Khan has become a social media sensation for walking with the men's basketball team out of the tunnel holding a boom box playing rap songs and singing along to tracks like Lud Foe's "In & Out."

Nicknamed "Aura," Khan's rising profile has provided the opportunity to sell his own T-shirts and made him the first student manager to earn a Name, Image and Likeness deal, getting endorsement deals with Buffalo Wild Wings, TickPick and Insomnia Cookies.

"Not only did I know the song but it is one of my favorite songs," Khan told The Associated Press this week.
'So yeah, I just rapped a few of the lyrics. Some of the players saw that I was rapping it and they just kind of hyped me up telling me, 'Hey, just keep going, rap for us!'" he added. "We had the camera on us, but that's usually not a new thing. So yeah, I just I just rapping and having fun with it."
Since McNeese social media director Phillip Mitchell Jr. posted the video of Khan with the players, the clip has drawn nearly 200,000 views on X.
'Easily one of my all-time favorite filming moments," Mitchell wrote with the post.

Khan was nearly as much of an attraction as the McNeese players prior to tipoff against Clemson in Providence, Rhode Island.

His rapport with the players and coaches was already apparent from the video, but guard DJ Richards Jr. was among those to praise Khan's work ethic.
"The managers, they really don't get credit for what they do," Richards told the AP. 'They follow us all year. They rebound for us. They get up early and then they still have to go to class and come back and rebound again. ... I love that Amir is getting this."
Assistant coach Reed Vial lauded Khan on social media after he signed his NIL deals.

CBS Sports breaks down the best, worst-case scenarios for Clemson football in 2025
CBS Sports recently broke down how the 2025 season could unfold for Clemson, mapping out the high and low ends for what Dabo Swinney's program might achieve this fall as part of an ACC-wide preview. After a strong spring, Clemson is heading into the season with lofty expectations and plenty of national buzz. CBS Sports' Chip Patterson laid out just how good things could get if everything falls into place, describing a scenario where the Tigers run the table and make a serious push for another College Football Playoff appearance. 'An opening win against LSU sets the tone for an absolute war machine year, as Dabo Swinney's Tigers celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first CFP appearance with their eighth playoff march,' Patterson wrote. He noted that those early projections of multiple first-round NFL Draft picks would be validated if 'Cade Klubnik stars with a stellar group of receivers (a couple of whom aren't draft eligible until 2027) and the defense shines under the leadership of new defensive coordinator Tom Allen.' However, Clemson's floor in 2025, according to Patterson, looks a lot like how last season wrapped up — solid but shy of the ultimate goal. 'Offseason hype falls flat. Clemson wins a lot of games, but gets tripped up enough to limit any chance of making the CFP as an at-large team. The Tigers are good enough to get off the bus, tie their shoes and win most of the games on their schedule but the season ends with little satisfaction as they come up short in the biggest games of the year,' he wrote. No other ACC team received quite as high of a ceiling as Clemson's perfect regular season. Miami and SMU were both given a possible 11-1 record if they perform at their best, while Louisville could push for 10-2. Florida State's outlook remains unpredictable after its dramatic drop from 13-1 in 2023 to 2-10 in 2024, with CBS projecting anything from 5-7 to 9-3 for the Seminoles. If Clemson wants to reach its best-case scenario, it will need everything to click — from Klubnik's leadership to Tom Allen's impact on defense — and prove that last season's stumbles were only temporary. Elliott is in position to contend for 2nd NASCAR title following 'surreal' last-lap win in Atlanta
HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — Chase Elliott couldn't have picked a better setting for a drought-breaking win. Fans roared in approval after Elliott, the home-state favorite, passed Brad Keselowski on the final lap to end a 44-race drought by winning the NASCAR Cup Series at Atlanta on Saturday night. Elliott's 20th career victory pushed him to second place in the Cup Series points race, putting him in prime position to return to the top of the NASCAR world after winning his first championship in 2020. Elliott earned a spot in the NASCAR playoffs with his first victory since April 2024 at Texas. He said he'll always remember the win as a career highlight, in part because of the ovation from fans who chanted 'Chase! Chase! Chase!' Elliott, a Dawsonville, Georgia, native, climbed into the stands at EchoPark Speedway, formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway, to celebrate with the fans. 'It was, truthfully, a pretty surreal moment,' Elliott said. 'Something I'll remember for the rest of my life. ... Saturday night under the lights, been a while since we won, just getting ourselves a win and advancing up on the playoff thing." It was his first Atlanta win since 2022. Elliott has 594 points, 37 behind Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, who has 631. A third Hendrick Motorsports driver, Kyle Larson, is third. Another Hendrick driver, Alex Bowman, played a key role in Elliott's comeback win. Bowman, who finished third, gave Elliott a push and then helped block Keselowski on the final lap. 'I'm happy for the 9 team,' Bowman said. 'It's a big win for him in his hometown. ... I'm glad to have a Hendrick car in victory lane. I wish it was us.' Elliott said he'll try to repay the favor by helping Bowman join the other three Hendrick drivers in the playoffs. 'I recognize that he gave me a great shove," Elliott said. "I recognize that he took his run on Brad, too, to try to get himself to second, which ultimately helped me as well. 'Yeah, those are all things that I remember.' Elliott advanced to the second round of NASCAR's new In-Season Challenge, a five-race, bracket-style tournament. With the field cut from 32 to 16 drivers, Elliott will be paired against John Hunter Nemechek when the Cup Series moves to the Chicago Street Race next Sunday. A $1 million prize awaits the winner, and Elliott's odds improved after Atlanta wrecks knocked out the top two seeds, Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe. Elliott wouldn't be the first family member to win a $1 million bonus. In 1985 his father, Bill Elliott, became the first winner of the Winston Million as a reward for claiming wins in three of the circuit's top four races at the time. The bonus earned the elder Elliott the nickname 'Million Dollar Bill.' Now the younger Elliott is a strong contender to become first in line for another $1 million prize. 'It'd be a really cool thing to win for sure and hope it works out that way," Chase Elliott said. Elliott's victory drought came after he needed surgery to repair a broken tibia in his left leg suffered in a snowboarding accident and missed six races in 2023. He said the support of longtime crew chief Alan Gustafson was 'in large part' responsible for helping him retain his confidence and reclaim his winning form. Gustafson said the win was more important for the 2025 playoff race than for ending the victory drought. 'The points were getting tight for the playoffs, for sure,' Gustafson said. 'I think that's probably the biggest thing. I think all the cars contending to win, I don't think any of them had won. I think that's probably the biggest thing we needed was that cushion.' Saturday night's win was Elliott's third consecutive top-five finish. 'When you're fortunate enough to climb the mountain and be able to stand at the top of the mountain with someone, that's an incredible achievement, right?' Elliott said. 'That's something that (Gustafson) and I will always cherish and remember that we did that together. 'For me it's really, really important to climb that mountain with the same people that we did the first time and know that we never quit on each other. That's just a really important piece of the puzzle for me.' ___
