"Sonia Gandhi Wept For Batla House Terrorists": Amit Shah Attacks Congress
Union Home Minister Amit Shah tore into the Congress this morning, claiming that former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi shed tears for the terrorists who were killed in the 2008 Batla House encounter in Delhi.
On September 19, 2008, two terrorists of the Indian Mujahideen, hiding in a flat at Batla House in Jamia Nagar, were eliminated by an armed police unit. Mohan Chand Sharma, an inspector with the Delhi Police, was killed in action during the encounter.
Recalling the incident, Mr Shah said he was surprised seeing then Congress chief Sonia Gandhi crying after the encounter.
"I would like to remember Salman Khurshid. One day, I was having an early breakfast when I saw him weeping on TV while leaving Sonia Gandhi's house. I thought something big had happened. He said that Sonia Gandhi was in tears over the Batla House incident. If you had to cry, you should have done that for Shaheed Mohan Sharma and not the Batla House terrorists," Mr Shah said in Lok Sabha.
The Congress has no right to question the government over what steps it has taken to tackle terror, he asserted, accusing the Opposition party of having a soft corner for the terrorists.
Mr Shah was speaking during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor in the parliament. Earlier in his speech, he confirmed that three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack had been eliminated during Operation Mahadev.
He also criticised Congress MP P Chidambaram for questioning the Pakistani origin of the Pahalgam attackers, accusing him of trying to 'save Pakistan'. "When he says this, it means they (the Congress) are giving a clean chit (to Pakistan)," said Mr Shah.
"I thought the opposition would be happy to know the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack are dead... but it seems they are upset," added the Union Minister, cornering the Congress over the issue of terror.

CM unveils plan to relocate slum dwellers to 50K unused flats
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said her government has prepared a plan to relocate slum dwellers to 50,000 flats constructed years ago but never allotted to anyone. She inspected government flats built for economically weaker sections in Sultanpuri, North West Delhi, around 2011. 'We have planned to relocate slum dwellers within a two-kilometre periphery of thousands of such old flats after properly repairing them and providing all the facilities,' she told reporters. Gupta criticised previous Delhi governments for failing to allot the 50,000 flats constructed over the years, leading to their current dilapidated condition. 'Neither Congress nor AAP gave these flats to poor people. But now our government will ensure these flats are allotted to slum dwellers after repair. If needed, we will demolish old flats if they cannot be repaired and provide new houses to them,' she said. Gupta said that no slums will be demolished in Delhi and asserted that her government would not hesitate to change policy or approach the courts to protect the rights of slum dwellers. She has also instructed various government departments not to demolish slums unless residents are first provided with alternative housing. 'This is the first government which is working in a direction to provide homes to every slum dweller,' she said while addressing students and faculty at the 39th Foundation and Orientation Day of Delhi University's Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. Gupta also announced the addition of 500 new seats at the college, aimed at expanding access to quality higher education. Congratulating the incoming batch, Gupta said, 'I couldn't come to Sukhdev College earlier because only students with 98 per cent, 100 per cent marks could come here. I had to become chief minister to come to this college.'

J&K: One suspected militant killed in gunfight with security forces in Kulgam
A suspected militant was killed in an overnight gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, the Indian Army said on Saturday. The gunfight began on Friday evening during a search operation conducted by a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and paramilitary forces in Akhal village. A security operation codenamed ' Operation Akhal ' was launched after receiving intelligence inputs about militant presence in the area, The Indian Express quoted unidentified police officials as saying. 'Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night,' the Army's Chinar Corps said in a social media post. 'Alert troops responded with calibrated fire…One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far.' Senior police officer VK Birdi told NDTV that one or two more suspected militants may be hiding in the area. The operation was still underway, the Army said. On Wednesday, the Army said that two suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces while attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control into Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. On July 28, three militants were killed in Operation Mahadev, a security operation in the Lidwas meadows of Srinagar's Dara area. On July 29, Union Home Minister Amit Shah told Parliament that the three militants neutralised in Operation Mahadev were terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack. He had said the operation was jointly carried out by the Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force. The three men identified as Suleiman Shah, Afghan and Jibran, were members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group. The men were identified as having been involved in the Pahalgam attack by those who had provided them shelter, the Union minister had told Parliament. The terror attack at Baisaran near Pahalgam town in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 left 26 persons dead and 16 injured. The terrorists targeted tourists after asking their names to ascertain their religion, the police said. All but three of those killed were Hindu.
