‘This is going to be a special one' – Kneecap to play Electric Picnic main stage

The festival, which takes place from August 29 to 31 at Stradbally Estate, Co Laois, confirmed the addition.
"This is going to be a special one," the organisers posted on social media.
It comes after the west Belfast group performed at Glastonbury over the weekend.

Avon and Somerset Police said on Saturday that they are assessing videos of comments made by the Belfast rap trio, as well as punk duo Bob Vylan, during their performances at the festival.
Taking to the West Holts stage Kneecap led the crowd in chants of 'Free Mo Chara and f*** Keir Starmer' during their set, while also thanking the organisers for not bowing to pressure to cancel their performance.
Appearing on stage before the Belfast trio, rapper Bobby Vylan, of rap punk duo Bob Vylan, led crowds on the festival's West Holts Stage in chants of: 'Free, free Palestine' and: 'Death, death to the IDF'.
The comments by Bobby Vylan have been condemned and the BBC has expressed regret at not pulling the live stream of the performance.
Glastonbury Festival itself also condemned the chants by Bob Vylan, saying in a statement on Sunday they were 'appalled by the statements' made on stage.
After performing several tracks, the band addressed the crowd, referencing Mo Chara's appearance in court earlier this month.
The charge sparked widespread political and public debate, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer stating it would be 'inappropriate' for the group to perform at Glastonbury.
Headline acts appearing at Electric Picnic this year include Chappell Roan, Hozier, Sam Fender, Fatboy Slim, Kings of Leon, and Becky Hill.

Bob Vylan no longer playing Manchester festival after Glastonbury controversy

Punk rap duo Bob Vylan will no longer play at a festival in Manchester this weekend after a controversial appearance at Glastonbury. The group were due to headline the Saturday slot at Radar Festival but no longer appear in the line-up. It comes as British police launched an investigation after rapper Bobby Vylan led crowds in chants of "death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)" during their livestreamed performance at the Somerset music festival last weekend. A statement posted on Radar festival's Instagram account said: "Bob Vylan will not be appearing at Radar festival this weekend." It has since updated its website, changing the Saturday slot to "Headliner TBA" (to be announced). In response, the group shared the festival's statement on their Instagram story, adding the caption: "Silence is not an option. We will be fine, the people of Palestine are hurting. Manchester we will be back." The rap group had issued a statement on Tuesday claiming they were being "targeted for speaking up" after Avon and Somerset police began its investigation. The BBC has also faced criticism for livestreaming the set and has since apologised, describing the chants as "antisemitic sentiments" that were "unacceptable". It later emerged BBC director-general Tim Davie was at Glastonbury while the performance was being livestreamed. A BBC spokesperson said: "The director-general was informed of the incident after the performance and at that point he was clear it should not feature in any other Glastonbury coverage." The group have since been banned from entering the US, ahead of their tour, with deputy secretary of state Christopher Landau revoking the duo's visas for their "hateful tirade at Glastonbury". They have also been pulled from their upcoming performance at a German music venue. Bob Vylan are expected to perform at the Boardmasters surfing and music festival in Newquay, Cornwall, in August. The group was formed in Ipswich in 2017, and are known for addressing political issues in their albums including racism, masculinity and class. Bobby Vylan is the stage name of Pascal Robinson-Foster, 34, according to reports, while his bandmate drummer uses the alias Bobbie Vylan.

Noah Kahan review: US singer 'emotional' while performing biggest headline show at Marlay Park

American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan played his biggest headline show to date in Dublin's Marlay Park on Tuesday night to a crowd of 39,000 people. With the sun setting over Marlay Park, people lay on the grass drinking pints and having chats. There were couples, big groups of friends, parents with kids and some die-hard fans who had been queuing since 10am. But the moment the stage went dark, everyone jumped to their feet. Vermont's finest came out sporting a bright red co-ord, and launched into the opener All My Love. He then acknowledged his outfit choice, joking it was "the elephant in the room". Less striking, but still very cute, was a teddy bear wearing a t-shirt that said 'Marlay Park', sitting on the piano on stage. Kahan, who last played in Ireland at Electric Picnic in 2024, clearly loves performing here. "You guys are the greatest crowds in the world," he said. He performed two unreleased songs last night - Deny, Deny, Deny and The Great Divide. They may be new tracks, but everyone knew the words. We can thank TikTok for that! This continued to be an interactive show. Kahan had said he wasn't going to talk too much, or he would end up embarrassing himself. However, he spent the whole night chatting away on stage. The crowd laughed at every joke and cheered at every compliment. "You guys are making me emotional," he said after You're Gonna Go Far. Later, he took his earpiece out to hear the crowd sing while playing Call Your Mom, telling everyone that they had beautiful voices. "You're like little Hoziers," he said. This was the perfect segway into his performance of Northern Attitude, which has a remix featuring Hozier. Since the Irish singer wasn't there, the crowd filled in perfectly for his iconic yell in the intro. Many were expecting Kahan to end with Orange Juice, as he usually does. Instead, he finished with the song that launched him into stardom, Stick Season. People danced in massive groups, hopping on friends' shoulders. And after a memorable evening, there no sense of 'that'll have to do' as the crowd headed to the exits with Chappell Roan's Hot to Go playing through the speakers. It was evident that Kahan had enjoyed it too. He headed to Instagram, posting "Dublin that was "f****n nuts", and "Dublin y'all can "f****n sing!! That was insane." I'm sure we can expect to see Noah Kahan back here as he said himself, "I'll be back for as long as you'll have me."

Vile ‘people smuggler' herds migrants onto small boat with a stick as packed dinghy evades French cops AGAIN

A SUSPECTED people smuggler was spotted using a stick to herd migrants as more small boats made the perilous journey across the Channel this morning. Shocking pictures showed the man appearing to shepherd the group as they frantically waded into the water in Gravelines, France - evading French cops once again. 7 Groups of migrants frantically waded into the water to be collected by the boats Credit: Getty 7 Traffickers tried to manage the scene using canes Credit: Getty 7 The shocking scenes unfolded in Gravelines, France, this morning Credit: Getty The masked organisers then barked instructions and shoved families and children - who had been waiting on the beach - into the rafts They were seen pushing them onto the packed boats as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to "smash the gangs" and reduce the number of crossings, but figures released yesterday laid bare the shocking extent of Britain's small boat crisis. Nearly 20,000 migrants have crossed the Channel in just six months — the highest total ever for the first half of the year. Read more News Some 19,982 migrants had arrived in the UK after making the dangerous crossing by the end of June, according to the latest Home Office figures. The crisis is now 48 per cent worse than this time last year and 75 per cent higher than in 2023. More boats were seen leaving French beaches yesterday, with officials expecting the total to smash through the 20,000 mark. Another 879 migrants arrived on Monday alone, as Most read in The Sun It was the third biggest daily total so far this year, with smugglers exploiting the heatwave. The worst day so far this year saw 1,195 arrivals, while the all-time daily record remains 1,305, set in September 2022. In response, Downing Street has urged voters to be patient, insisting 'it's not simple' to smash the criminal gangs driving the surge and warning 'it's going to take time.' Asked about the record numbers, the Prime Minister's spokesman said the figures were 'clearly unacceptable'. Migrants dodge tear gas in sprint across beach to reach boats bound for Britain Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said: 'Record numbers of young undocumented males have crossed this year thanks to French beaches being the world's most expensive sieve — this is a disaster for the country. 'They are costing us money, making us less safe, and they bring a terrorist threat. 'This will only get worse under the weakest Prime Minister I have ever seen.' Critics added £500million of taxpayer cash given to France had only turned its beaches into 'the world's most expensive sieve'. Patrols with jeeps, quad bikes and drones were pictured on the sand earlier this week as smugglers prepared to launch more dinghies. Officers on the beaches have It was widely reported last month that French police are stopping a record low number of migrants from crossing, intercepting fewer than 40 per cent of people. The Tories blasted Labour for tearing up their Rwanda deportation plan and replacing it with 'fantasy'. "The crossings will then rapidly stop." Last month, French police were pictured finally getting into the sea to try to stop migrants getting onto a dinghy. Riot officers dramatically threatened migrants with batons and pepper sprayed them in waist-high water during shocking scenes at Gravelines beach . But 15 minutes later, riot cops were called back out of the sea and watched on as the same group of migrants boarded the waiting dinghy. It led to accusations that officers just wanted to "put on a show" after being exposed in the press, while continuing to fail to stop any dinghies. 7 The Prime Minister has accepted the figures are 'unacceptable' Credit: Getty
