Noah Kahan review: US singer 'emotional' while performing biggest headline show at Marlay Park

RTÉ Newsa day ago
American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan played his biggest headline show to date in Dublin's Marlay Park on Tuesday night to a crowd of 39,000 people.
With the sun setting over Marlay Park, people lay on the grass drinking pints and having chats.
There were couples, big groups of friends, parents with kids and some die-hard fans who had been queuing since 10am.
But the moment the stage went dark, everyone jumped to their feet.
Vermont's finest came out sporting a bright red co-ord, and launched into the opener All My Love.
He then acknowledged his outfit choice, joking it was "the elephant in the room".
Less striking, but still very cute, was a teddy bear wearing a t-shirt that said 'Marlay Park', sitting on the piano on stage.
Kahan, who last played in Ireland at Electric Picnic in 2024, clearly loves performing here.
"You guys are the greatest crowds in the world," he said.
He performed two unreleased songs last night - Deny, Deny, Deny and The Great Divide.
They may be new tracks, but everyone knew the words.
We can thank TikTok for that!
This continued to be an interactive show.
Kahan had said he wasn't going to talk too much, or he would end up embarrassing himself.
However, he spent the whole night chatting away on stage. The crowd laughed at every joke and cheered at every compliment.
"You guys are making me emotional," he said after You're Gonna Go Far.
Later, he took his earpiece out to hear the crowd sing while playing Call Your Mom, telling everyone that they had beautiful voices.
"You're like little Hoziers," he said.
This was the perfect segway into his performance of Northern Attitude, which has a remix featuring Hozier. Since the Irish singer wasn't there, the crowd filled in perfectly for his iconic yell in the intro.
Many were expecting Kahan to end with Orange Juice, as he usually does.
Instead, he finished with the song that launched him into stardom, Stick Season.
People danced in massive groups, hopping on friends' shoulders.
And after a memorable evening, there no sense of 'that'll have to do' as the crowd headed to the exits with Chappell Roan's Hot to Go playing through the speakers.
It was evident that Kahan had enjoyed it too.
He headed to Instagram, posting "Dublin that was "f****n nuts", and "Dublin y'all can "f****n sing!! That was insane."
I'm sure we can expect to see Noah Kahan back here as he said himself, "I'll be back for as long as you'll have me."

Love Island hunk sparks concern as fans convinced he's suffered painful injury – did you see it?

LOVE Island fans are convinced Conor may have suffered a painful injury before the show after spotting a clue on the show. The rugby player, 25, recently sparked concern after he showed off his pearly white gnashers while in the villa. 4 Love Island fans noticed Conor's missing tooth on the right upper row Credit: Eroteme 4 Some viewers think it may be a result of a rugby injury Credit: Eroteme 4 Many viewers have defended Conor's natural teeth Credit: Eroteme Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot a tooth missing from his upper right set and asked whether it might have happened on the show. One viewer wrote: "Not to be rude in the dental situation?" along with a picture of Conor and his missing tooth. But many fans took to reddit to explain that the missing tooth was likely a result of him playing rugby. This person shared: "Dental implants are very expensive and the process is long. He might not mind missing a side tooth which is fine! Genetic condition or a rugby injury perhaps? It's really not a big deal or anyone's place to judge." READ MORE ON LOVE ISLAND A second said: "He's played full contact rugby for years, I assume that was the cause. From following other players, they won't get a permanent fix until they retire from rugby because the chance is high it will just get damaged again." "Conor's teeth actually give his face character, they suit him. They are clean and look nice . Also he's a rugby player they tend to lose teeth it's high contact," a third commented. Another added: "He's a rugby player. There is literally no point getting your teeth done before you retire. My husband was missing his front tooth from rugby when I met him…I sorted that straight out ha!" While several other people defended the star's natural teeth. Most read in News TV This viewer said: "It costs a fortune to get dental implants for regular people. He's attractive in any case. Better than the Turkey teeth." "I'd rather have real teeth like this than those piano keys the rest of them have got in their mouths," someone else fumed. Love Island star sparks fears she'll quit the show after tense bust-up saying 'she's going to walk' This person posted: "Teeth are unique to people? You're being rude. We don't all have turkey teeth! He probably lost it with rugby or whatever but yeah.. his teeth are unique to him." Conor's time in the villa hasn't been completely plain sailing after love interest She told heatworld in an interview: "It's so funny, right? So on day one, Conor told me that he followed me on Instagram four years ago, and I never followed him back. "But then since coming out, I've seen that he follows me on TikTok and he's actually commented on one of my TikToks. "Again, I've not followed him back or even realised he had commented on one." She laughed: "So, yeah, it's nice that he's still trying four years later. "It's worked out for him now, I suppose." Suzanne Kane says she was ‘standing up for herself' after sudden exit from 98FM

Last month, the popular radio DJ stepped away from her 98FM programme with Brian Dowling. The relationship between 98FM's Suzanne Kane and co-host Brian Dowling is said to have broken down Former 98FM star Suzanne Kane has revealed she was 'standing up for herself' in the wake of her abrupt exit from the radio station. The DJ had been hosting the mid-morning show alongside Brian Dowling but had been on leave from the programme since February. Last month, the Dubliner revealed she was stepping away from the show after five years on air. As the Sunday World reported back in April, her absence had been due to a breakdown in her relationship with her former Big Brother star co-host. Speaking to RSVP Magazine, Suzanne did not directly reference the rumoured rift but instead noted how she never likes to be the 'loudest person in the room'. The relationship between 98FM's Suzanne Kane and co-host Brian Dowling is said to have broken down 'I have no want in the world to annihilate anybody. I don't like confrontation or conflict,' she explained. 'I was standing up for myself, it was never about anybody else. My dad passed 20 years ago but he always taught me that you never get your point across when you shout. 'I've learned that you don't have to be the loudest person in the room to be heard. Sometimes saying very little is all you need to say, and you move on to the next bit.' In June, Suzanne broke the silence over the matter with a lengthy Instagram post that she described as a 'life update'. "After nearly 5 years, l'm stepping away from my role presenting 10AM to 1PM on 98FM,' she said at the time. 'Anyone who knows me, will know how much I adore radio and the Bauer family inside Marconi house, but for now, it's time to let the 'Good Times' roll for someone else. 'A word to the amazing team, I loved the madness and radio nerdiness that we all shared and how much we cared. Radio is really special and that's because of the people who do the heavy lifting to make it all come together. I'm glad to have been on this rollercoaster with you all. Suzanne Kane News in 90 Seconds - Thursday, July 3 'To everyone who listened to the show. I loved sharing my life and my kids with the soundest listeners on 98FM. We've been through a lot together & thank you for always turning up for me, it means more than any of you will know. "Lastly, a quick word to my kiddos Oisín, Hannah & Sadie. Thank you for letting me have a go of my dream radio job and playing ball every morning, even the really tough ones, so I could be in front of the mic by 10am and of course, Joey - the voice of support, the constant, the reassurance, who always has the reminder 'We'll figure it out, we always do'.' The mum-of-three has been working in the industry for over two decades and is expected to land a new role in the near future. Alongside his former co-host, Brian Dowling also revealed last month that he too would be departing the 98FM programme in an Instagram post released just minutes after Suzanne's. 'I made the decision earlier in the year that I would not be continuing co-hosting on Brian Dowling & Suzanne Kane on @98fmdublin making this Friday June 6th my very last show on Brian Dowling & Suzanne Kane,' he wrote on social media. "When I joined Suzanne back in March of 2023, I had ZERO radio hosting skills. Blake was only 6 months old & baby Blu was only a twinkle in our eyes. "It took me a minute to get into my new groove, but when I did, WOW, I honestly have had the best time & have genuinely laughed every day; even on those bad days, being part of this show ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. "Here we are now 2 years & 3 months later & I'm still laughing & smiling. I have learned so much about an industry I've been in for nearly 24 years, presenting mainly television shows but now my love for radio easily equals my love for telly.'
