Brad Pitt Says ‘Se7en' 'Reinvigorated' His Passion for Acting After 'the Most Unhealthy Time'
During a Monday appearance on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, the F1: The Movie star reflected on what he described as 'the most unhealthy time' in his life during the summer of 1994. He admitted that after having 'not such great experiences coming off a couple of jobs,' he wasn't sure where his career was heading.

'I had not such great experiences coming off a couple of jobs and I just wasn't really sure what I was doing. I had the weirdest summer,' he said. 'It was the most unhealthy time, I just needed to check out and I would wake up, I would get a bong load, I'd have four Coca Colas on no ice, no food this particular summer, and I watched the O.J. trial, trying to figure out what do I do next? What do I do next?'
Pitt found himself 'reinvigorated' after he was presented with the Se7en script, though he was still initially hesitant about the film's storyline before he met with the director.
'Then I read this script, my dear friend and manager and basically my sister now, Cynthia, sends this over, [and] she says, 'You got to read this.' I read the first seven pages, I call her up and I go, 'Are you kidding me?'' Pitt explained. 'Like, [it was] the cliché old cop wants out, the young cop comes in and he's looking at his high school football trophies?' She goes, 'Just finish it.' Then I go meet Finch, and he was just talking about films like I'd never heard anyone speak about film.'
The Oscar winner added, 'I just got the jones back, and finding that thing, it just reinvigorated what I wanted out of this thing.'
Se7en follows the story of Detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman), who is about to retire, and David Mills (Pitt), as they track down a serial killer (Kevin Spacey) who murders people who he believes have committed one of the seven deadly sins. The film earned a sole nomination at the 68th Academy Awards for best film editing.

But yeah, I could see Tom maybe scaring us a little bit more.' Even "F1's" action-vehicle supervisor, Graham Kelly, couldn't hide his nerves. 'We'd have had a crash. Tom pushes it to the limit. I mean really to the limit. That terrifies me,' he said. 'I've done loads of Mission: Impossibles with Tom and it's the most stressful experience for someone like me building cars for him, doing stunts with him.' He added, 'Whereas Brad listens and he knows his abilities, and I think he'd be the first to say, 'Yeah, I'm not going to do that.'' Although Pitt isn't jumping onto planes anytime soon, his upcoming film "F1" still promises jaw-dropping action. Set for a June 27 release, the Apple Original follows Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a has-been Formula 1 racer staging a comeback. The cast includes Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Damson Idris as the cocky new teammate who challenges Hayes on and off the track. Describing the film, Pitt told E! News, 'It's big, it's huge. The driving is something off the charts, but on top of it, it's really fun. And it's funny and it's kind of moving, I dare say.' As for what it felt like to drive an actual F1 car, Pitt gushed, 'I've tried to describe this feeling of downforce — it is something otherworldly. I've never had this experience anywhere else, not in a rollercoaster, not an aerobatic plane, nothing.' Brad Pitt also waxed philosophical during the "F1" premiere in Mexico, noting how he has learned to move on from his mistakes. During a chat with Entertainment Tonight, the superstar actor shared, "No matter the mistake, you know, you just learn from [it] and move on. It'll lead to the next success." Pitt's response came after he was asked about how he managed to stay grounded despite the numerous challenges and achievements in his life. Although Pitt didn't open up about his mistake, he hinted that one of the things that helped him overcome difficult moments was family. He said, "At my age, I see how important it is to surround yourself with the people you know, the people you love, the people that love you back." Pitt concluded, "Friends, family, and that's it. From there, we get to go make things. It's a pretty simple, I think, equation."

‘Twilight' Director Admits 'Every Studio in Los Angeles' Turned the Movie Down at First
Within the grand limestone walls of Fort Ricasoli in Malta last week, director Catherine Hardwicke gave a masterclass on her craft at the 2025 Mediterrane Film Festival, dissecting specific scenes from her many movies—including Twilight. The movie based on Stephanie Meyer's hit book debuted nearly 17 years ago, but there is still behind-the-scenes intel to be found, and Catherine was generous in sharing her set stories. In her session—called 'Fix It in Prep' and moderated by The Hollywood Reporter's Chris Gardner—Catherine gave intel on her movie, from the color stories of the wardrobe to background on Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's "hold on tight, spider monkey" scene, which did not appear in the book. Catherine also touched on many of her other projects during the masterclass, including Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, Miss You Already, and her episode of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. 'In the Cullen family, they wore the colors of an arctic wolf: silvers, blues, grays, blacks. Those were the only colors they were allowed to wear,' Catherine said. 'The book has a lot of time where we're thinking about Edward's cheekbones, then again we're thinking about the cheekbones, and again we're thinking about the cheekbones. That doesn't work well in a movie. A book has to turn cinematic.' 'I wanted to do a scene that shows how wonderful it is to be in love with a hot vampire. How does it feel the first time you're madly in love? What could I create for that? So I kind of came up with the idea: Let's do this crazy tree top sequence.' 'Hold on tight, spider monkey. Anybody remember that line? Okay, I started to notice that Rob and Kristen needed a little bit more dialogue. There was too much eyes, eyes. So the night before, I'm writing like 10 different things, and I gave Rob the list asking, 'Which one do you want to say?' And he said, 'I want to say that.' Which is now the classic.' 'At the time, every studio in Los Angeles turned down Twilight. Nobody thought it would make one penny,' she said. 'I read the script, and I thought the script was terrible. I went and read the book, and I saw why there were fans that were passionate about it. So I said, 'I want to take a meeting,' and I went in there to the meeting and I took the script and said, 'This guy's in the trash can, but we're going to make it closer to the book and here are some ideas.' So they said, 'Okay, we agree with you. Let's hire a screenwriter.'' 'Our bonding was baseball camp, because most people didn't know how to play baseball. I thought, 'How do you bond as vampires?'
