Senior lawyers Shashank Shekhar and Samresh Katare, while appearing on behalf of JDCA, said the district cricket association was constituted in 1999. Surendra Verma was its joint secretary till 2006.
In 2006, a new executive of JDCA came into existence. Registrar, firms & societies asked for information on the annual general meeting of the body.
Since the previous executive had not furnished information for 2004 to 2006, the new GDCA executive failed to provide complete information sought by the registrar.
The registrar subsequently dissolved JDCA in 2013. After all the desired information was provided to the office of the registrar, the JDCA executive was restored in 2014.
Verma had moved the court challenging the registrar's order to restore the JDCA executive.
A single-judge bench had quashed the order of the registrar on the ground that information was provided to the registrar by the JDCA late.
The JDCA had challenged the order before a HC division bench, which overturned the order of the HC single bench.

Supreme Court stays Kerala HC ban on single-use plastics in state
The Supreme Court Monday stayed the Kerala High Court order banning use and sale of Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) in the state. A bench of Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and K Vinod Chandran also issued notice to the state on the appeal challenging the June 17, 2025 order which came on a writ petition initiated suo motu by the HC in 2023. The plea contended that though the petition initiated following a fire at the Solid Waste Plant in Brahmapuram in Kochi was initially limited to enforcing the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, the June 17 order, went beyond this scope and issued directions under the Plastic Waste Management rules. It said the HC's directions go beyond, and in some parts contradict, the existing Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. The HC in its order noted SUP use had become rampant in all areas of the State. —ENS

Traders At Chandni Chowk Protest Wall Of Indifference
New Delhi: A group of traders from Chandni Chowk organised a peaceful protest march on Monday, moving from Sunheri Masjid to Red Fort, expressing dissatisfaction over issues such as congestion, encroachments, poor law enforcement, inadequate maintenance, and unauthorised hawkers on the main road. This situation persists despite multiple Supreme Court and Delhi High Court rulings aimed at restoring Chandni Chowk's former grandeur through systemtic improvements. The traders' association announced that they would continue their hour-long daily protests until Aug 14, criticising authorities and highlighting court orders. "Our objective is to combat corruption and establish proper public order. Delhi Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are wishfully and wilfully not implementing several SC and HC's strict orders. The protests intend to 'name and shame' the administration for its failure to implement the rule of law in the area and for making a mockery of the court's directions," said Sanjay Bhargava, president of Chandni Chowk Vyapaar Mandal. Traders referenced various judicial orders, including the HC directive from Nov 7, 2023, instructing agencies to maintain the area's redevelopment and beautification works. They also highlighted the HC's direction from Dec 20, 2023, mandating strict compliance with the Special Task Force's Dec 7, 2023 decisions concerning street vendor management. The last HC order from Nov 22, 2024, required MCD and Delhi Police to address deficiencies and illegal activities within two weeks. But except for Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, no other agency has submitted the status report so far. This is because they have done nothing," said Bhargava. "The 1.3 km-stretch developed after spending Rs 140 crore is poorly maintained. It lacks basic sanitation, so the question of deep cleaning of stone work done in the market area doesn't arise," added Deepak Jain, secretary of the traders' association. Traders pointed out the Supreme Court's 2007 ruling designated the area as a no hawking, no squatting zone and ordered the removal of illegal occupants. "MCD, which is responsible for sanitation, toilets, controlling loading and unloading in restricted hours, prevention of unauthorised construction on the main road, have totally ignored the directions of the courts. Similarly, Delhi Police and Delhi Traffic Police have ignored removing illegal hawkers or squatters," said Ajay Mittal, a trader and association member. In response, Delhi Police and MCD told TOI, action is being taken on a regular basis. Meanwhile, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, general secretary of the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch and spokesperson of Delhi BJP, said while there are problems that need to be addressed, the traders will not hold protests during the Independence Day Week. "From Aug 9 to 15, we will not take part in any protests or sit-ins," he said.

Deposit passport: HC to man accused of cheating Navjot Sidhu's wife
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday asked Gagandeep Singh , who is accused of duping cricketer-turned-political leader Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur , to deposit his passport with the investigating officer upon arrival from Dubai. The court also clarified that if he arrived in the country and attended the mediation centre to settle his dispute with Navjot Kaur amicably, police will not arrest him to facilitate his participation in the mediation proceedings. Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by the accused. During the hearing of the case on Monday, counsels representing Navjot Kaur and Gagandeep Singh informed the bench that the disputes between them could be settled by way of mediation, and for this purpose, the parties may be referred to the mediation and conciliation centre of the court. The bench accepted their request and referred the matter for mediation. "Parties through their counsel are directed to appear before the mediation and conciliation centre on Aug 12. In the meanwhile, the petitioner (Gagandeep Singh) will not be arrested to facilitate his participation in the mediation proceedings. He shall deposit his passport with the investigating officer on arriving in the country," the HC ordered. As per the FIR, registered in Oct 2024 at Patiala, former MLA Navjot Kaur came into contact with Gagandeep alias Prince, who introduced himself as a partner of Space Builders and Promoters and OTH Builders and Promoters, allegedly involved in real estate projects across Mohali and Zirakpur. Gagandeep allegedly gave assurances of high returns while asking the complainant for investment in some real-estate projects. On this, Navjot Kaur and her relatives allegedly invested around Rs 10.35 crore through bank transfers as well as cash into the real estate venture represented by Gagandeep. Later, the returns were delayed, and the cheques issued by Gagandeep to refund money were dishonoured. On Navjot Kaur's complaint, an FIR was registered in Patiala. The accused had approached the high court for bail.
