Abu Safiya Suffers from Systematic Torture in Israeli Prisons

DaysofPal- Attorney Ghaid Ghanem Qassem, the lawyer representing detained Palestinian physician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, has revealed shocking details about the inhumane conditions he is enduring inside Israeli prisons, stating that he has lost over 40 kilograms of his body weight and is subjected to brutal torture and medical neglect.
In a Facebook post, Qassem wrote: 'Dr. Hussam is not well. He has lost more than a third of his body weight since his arrest on December 27, 2024. He used to weigh 100 kg, and now he weighs no more than 60.' She added that he was severely beaten on June 24 inside Room 1, Section 24 of Ofer Prison, where he was violently struck on his chest, face, head, back, and neck for more than 30 minutes.
Qassem noted that Dr. Abu Safiya had repeatedly requested medical treatment and to be examined by a cardiologist due to his irregular heartbeat and heart muscle enlargement, but these requests were denied. His glasses, which had been delivered through his attorney, were also deliberately broken by prison authorities.
'Despite the summer heat, Dr. Hussam is still wearing his winter clothes while held underground, without any exposure to sunlight, enduring starvation, isolation, and ongoing physical and psychological torture,' Qassem said.
During her last visit on July 9, she reported that his first question was about the fate of his martyred son's body, who had been temporarily buried near Kamal Adwan Hospital due to Israeli shelling.
He also expressed sorrow over not being able to say goodbye to his mother, who passed away just ten days after his arrest.
Israeli authorities recently classified Dr. Abu Safiya as an 'unlawful combatant', a legal designation enacted in 2002 that allows Israel to detain individuals from 'hostile entities' without the protections typically afforded to prisoners of war.
Israeli Channel 13 had previously aired a video showing Dr. Abu Safiya inside the prison for the first time since his arrest, handcuffed, exhausted, and unwell.
Earlier this year, Amnesty International called for his immediate release, citing credible testimonies about horrific conditions inside Israeli detention centers, where Palestinian detainees, including medical personnel, face systematic torture and abuse.
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, is a prominent physician in Gaza. He suffers from chronic high blood pressure and cardiac hypertrophy, yet has been denied proper medical care or specialist consultation.
In light of these revelations, human rights organizations are increasingly demanding an international investigation into his detention conditions and accountability for the Israeli occupation's systematic abuses, which may amount to war crimes under international law.

UN: 10 Children a Day Losing Legs in Gaza as War Wounds Over 134,000

DaysofPal- A staggering report from the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) reveals that an average of 10 children per day in Gaza are losing one or both of their legs amid the ongoing Israeli genocide there. The UN report highlights the unimaginable toll on the territory's youngest and most vulnerable. In a post on X, OHCHR stated that '10 children per day lose one or both of their legs,' and that '134,105 people, including over 40,500 children, have new war-related injuries.' Among the wounded, over 35,000 individuals are believed to have suffered significant hearing damage due to intense and repeated explosions. Humanitarian officials describe the crisis as unprecedented, with a growing number of amputations being performed in dire condition, often without anesthesia, clean equipment, or electricity, as Gaza's hospitals and field clinics crumble under the weight of unrelenting conflict and blockade. 'This is a war on children,' said Adele Khodr, UNICEF's Regional Director for the Middle East, warning that Gaza now holds the highest number of pediatric amputees per capita in the world. Aid groups such as Save the Children and Médecins Sans Frontières confirm that more than 3,000 children have already lost limbs since the war began, with many more likely uncounted. In overcrowded wards, children like 10-year-old Yahya, who lost both legs in an airstrike, lie motionless, asking when they can return to school or play football, questions no adult in Gaza knows how to answer. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini called the suffering 'unconscionable,' adding that children are paying the highest price for a war they did not start. As the civilian casualty toll climbs and medical infrastructure collapses, humanitarian agencies continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access. Yet despite mounting international outrage, the bombardment persists, leaving behind a trail of shattered lives, broken futures, and a generation of children who may never walk again. Gaza: 360 Health Workers Detained, Dozens Killed in Systematic Israeli Campaign

DaysofPal – The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has accused Israeli forces of systematically dismantling the Palestinian health sector, revealing that 360 medical personnel have been arrested since the beginning of the war in October 2023. In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry condemned what it described as 'a deliberate and systematic targeting of the Palestinian health sector' and appealed to international bodies to immediately intervene and hold Israel accountable for the ongoing detention and mistreatment of medical workers. The ministry stressed the urgent need to criminalize the Israeli occupation's practices and to demand the release of all detained health professionals. According to the Health Care Workers' Watch Organization, in Palestine, 71 health workers have been killed in the last two months alone. Among the latest victims was prominent cardiologist Dr. Marwan al-Sultan, director of the Indonesian Hospital, who was killed along with his family in an Israeli strike on July 2. Just days later, on Sunday, July 13, Dr. Ahmed Qandil, a general surgery consultant at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, was killed when an Israeli airstrike targeted a bustling market in downtown Gaza. These attacks are part of a far larger toll. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that at least 1,580 health care workers have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on medical facilities and personnel across Gaza since the start of the war. One of the most harrowing individual cases is that of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a well-known pediatric surgeon and former head of Kamal Adwan Hospital. He was arrested when Israeli forces stormed the hospital on December 28, 2024. His lawyer, Ghadeer Ghanem Qassem, revealed in a Facebook post that Dr. Abu Safiya is in grave condition. As of July 9, he had lost more than 40 kilograms, over a third of his body weight, since his detention, reportedly due to severe mistreatment and beatings. 'At the beginning of his detention, he weighed 100 kilograms. Today, he weighs no more than 60,' Qassem wrote, adding that he was beaten severely on June 24. Palestinian officials and rights groups warn that these acts form part of a broader policy aimed at dismantling essential civil infrastructure in Gaza, particularly in the health sector, which is on the brink of collapse under the weight of ongoing military attacks, blockade, and now the targeted arrests and killings of its personnel. Israel Bombards Gaza with Over 100 Strikes in 24 Hours

DaysofPal – The Israeli Occupation Forces announced it carried out more than 100 airstrikes across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, as intense bombardment and ground operations continue to devastate large parts of the besieged territory. Fighting has been particularly fierce in eastern Gaza City, where Israeli forces pressed forward with widespread demolitions and bulldozing in the neighborhoods of Al-Zaytoun and Al-Shuja'iya. Artillery fire also struck the upper floors of Al-Shawa and Al-Hassri Towers in central Gaza City, though no injuries were reported in those specific incidents. The Israeli army claimed the strikes targeted 'terrorist organizations,' while also confirming ongoing ground advances across the enclave, especially in its northern regions, including Jabalia, Beit Hanoon, and the already devastated neighborhoods of Shujayea and Zeitoun. Palestinian medical and civil defense teams, however, are struggling to keep up with the scale of destruction and death. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israeli forces committed eight massacres against families in the past day alone, killing at least 63 people and injuring 114 more. Many victims are still trapped under rubble or lie in the streets, unreachable due to the relentless shelling. The death toll from Israel's assault on Gaza since October 7 has now reached 58,026, with 138,520 reported injuries, according to the ministry. In the central Gaza Strip, Israeli warplanes bombed several areas, including Deir al-Balah, where medical sources at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital confirmed that multiple civilians were killed, including two doctors. Eyewitnesses reported limited incursions by Israeli military vehicles northeast of Deir al-Balah, accompanied by bulldozing operations. The Jabalia refugee camp and surrounding areas were subjected to a particularly intense barrage, with over 100 airstrikes reported. The strikes targeted homes, roads, and open spaces, coinciding with an Israeli ground advance in the eastern sector of the camp. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and fear as thousands of residents fled westward toward Gaza City in a desperate attempt to escape the bombing. In Gaza City's Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, Israeli airstrikes destroyed at least two houses, killing and injuring an unspecified number of people. The blasts sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky and caused widespread damage to nearby homes, according to residents. Mass displacement continues on a large scale across northern Gaza, with streams of civilians fleeing their neighborhoods under fire. Entire families have been forced to leave their homes with little more than what they can carry, seeking shelter in increasingly overcrowded and unsafe zones to the west. Shortlink for this post:
