Opposition slams Eknath Shinde for 'Jai Gujarat' remark; calls it surrender of Maharashtra pride
Before concluding with 'Jai Gujarat', Shinde did say 'Jai Maharashtra'. Lauding the efforts of Union Minister Amit Shah, Shinde ended his speech with the sequence: 'Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat.'
The Opposition slammed Shinde for allegedly surrendering Marathi and Maharashtra pride before the Gujarati BJP leadership and accused him of showing a slave mentality. They alleged that Shinde is working as a slave of the BJP and that his 'Jai Gujarat' slogan reflects this mindset.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defended Shinde saying, the slogan was not against Maharashtra. He added that Uddhav Thackeray himself had said 'Jai Gujarat' during an event in Gujarat, and pointed out, "Gujarat is not in Pakistan. There should not be hatred against any community or state."
However, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut lashed out saying, "Amit Shah's duplicate Shiv Sena has revealed its real face with Eknath Shinde's 'Jai Gujarat' slogan." Raut said Shinde's Shiv Sena is now "Shah's Sena".
"How can this person (Shinde) remain in Maharashtra's cabinet? He should be sacked immediately for insulting the sentiments of Marathi people and Maharashtra," Raut demanded.
Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam also criticised Shinde, saying that as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, he should not have said 'Jai Gujarat'.
Maharashtra Congress President Harshavardhan Sapkal said Maharashtra is the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's self-respect. He reminded that Shivaji Maharaj had once invaded Surat for Swarajya, but today, in his state, people like Eknath Shinde have mortgaged Maharashtra's pride to Gujarat.

Ladli Behna Yojana monthly aid to be ₹1,500 after Diwali: M.P. CM Yadav
More than 1.27 crore women beneficiaries of Madhya Pradesh government's flagship Ladli Behna Yojana will get a monthly aid of ₹1,500 after Diwali, up from the current ₹1,250, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said. He said a special budget of ₹27,147 crore has been earmarked for women, including ₹18,699 crore for the Ladli Behna scheme. "Ladli Behna Yojana beneficiaries would receive ₹1,250 plus an additional ₹250 on Raksha Bandhan. After Diwali, the monthly benefit would be hiked to ₹1,500," he said at a women's empowerment and tribal pride conference in Sarai in Singrauli on Friday (July 4, 2025). He also stated that 51 lakh girls have benefited from the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, receiving a total of ₹672 crore in assistance. The Ladli Behna Yojana was launched on June 10, 2023, by then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The aid at the time was ₹1,000, which was gradually raised to ₹1,250. The scheme is credited with giving the ruling BJP a resounding victory in the November 2023 assembly polls. Mr. Yadav also said more than 9,000 tribal families have been granted land rights under the Forest Rights Act. He promised 33% reservation for women in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Karnataka HC stays BJP defamation case against Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, state Congress
The Karnataka High Court on Friday stayed a defamation case filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party against Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and the Congress' state unit, Bar and Bench reported. Justice SR Krishna Kumar heard preliminary arguments in the matter, and stayed the proceedings till the case is heard next. The judge issued a notice to the BJP, and adjourned the hearing till July 29, the Deccan Herald reported. The case pertains to allegations by the Congress that the previous BJP government in Karnataka took bribes from contractors. The Congress was elected to power in the state in 2023, displacing the BJP government. The BJP filed the defamation case against the Congress, party leader Rahul Gandhi and Shivakumar, objecting to newspaper advertisements with allegedly derogatory allegations about the previous BJP government between 2019 and 2023. The Congress had alleged that the government was charging a 40% commission or bribes from contractors for undertaking public works. The BJP alleged that the Congress was spreading false claims against its members, including the then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. The High Court had stayed proceedings against Gandhi in the case on January 17. The advertisements based on which the BJP filed the defamation case accused the previous government in Karnataka of having looted Rs 1,500 crore through corrupt practices like charging commissions. They also alleged that the government had put in place 'rate cards' for bribes that purportedly had to be paid to secure government posts.

BJP MLA's son arrested for firing on TMC worker in West Bengal's Cooch Behar
Kolkata A Trinamool Congress worker was shot at in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district and a Bhartiya Janta Party MLA's son has been arrested in relation with the crime, the police said on Friday (July 4, 2025). One more person has been arrested in relation to the crime. The son of local BJP MLA Sukumar Roy, Dipankar Roy, and his driver, Uttam Gupta, were arrested in connection with the case, according to information shared by the local police officials. Mr. Sukumar Roy is the local MLA from Cooch Behar. Police have recovered CCTV footage from the crime scene which is one of the strongest pieces of evidence in this assault case. The incident of shooting happened on July 3, late at night when the BJP MLA's son was reportedly using his father's car. BJP denies role, says it is 'internal feud' However, BJP claimed that Raju Dey, the TMC worker was attacked during an internal feud in their own party and said that Dipankar Roy or others from BJP had no relation to the crime. Mr. Dey's condition is said to be stable at the moment, and he has been admitted to a local hospital. 'BJP does not involve in such crimes and violence. I do not know who is behind this incident, but TMC is only using this to malign our name,' Sukumar Roy said. He also added that TMC does not have much footing in north Bengal and Cooch Behar that is why they are using this moment to attack BJP. He said that there are many allegations against Mr Dey and he can be attacked by anyone. In the meantime, TMC workers in Cooch Behar took out a rally in support of Mr Dey and condemned the attack. 'We outright condemn the murderous attack on Raju Dey, Public Health Officer of Cooch Behar II Panchayat Samiti. Armed BJP-backed criminals, using the car of @BJP4Bengal's own MLA, tried to kill a public representative, and BJP still dares to talk about law and order?' the TMC wrote in a statement on their official social media handle on X. Raju Dey spoke to media persons from his hospital bed and claimed that the BJP MLA's son attacked him. 'This is not new, the MLA and his son have attacked many of our people on other occasions as well,' Mr Dey said. He called for strict action against the perpetrators. Police said that an FIR has been filed, and investigation is underway. He suffered a bullet injury on his right shoulder, police added. The injured had to undergo surgery to recover from the bullet injury. TMC Minister Firhad Hakim accused that BJP is using 'Gujrat model' of politics in West Bengal to injure, kill, and harm their people.
