EV buses ready to roll out
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the first electric bus service in Lahore.
She rode in an electric bus and inspected it. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar gave a detailed briefing about the electric bus service pilot project in Lahore.
The chief minister was informed that the electric bus has GPS location recorder, Wi-Fi, USB port and other facilities.
Each bus has 30 seats and the capacity for 80 passengers. The buses have ramps and seats reserved for differently-abled passengers.
For the first time, an anti-slip sheet has been used on the bus floor for the safety of passengers. Nine charging stations have been set up in Green Town for the electric buses.
The bus will be able to cover a distance of 250 kilometres after each charging and will complete its route four times.
A route display will also be seen in the bus by passengers. A separate section for women will be designated and cameras will be installed to prevent harassment. As per the briefing, 27 electric buses will be operated on a 21km route.
The e-bus will travel between the Lahore Railway Station and Green Town via Queens Road, Mozang, Ferozepur Road, Campus Bridge and Ichra Canal.
About 17,000 passengers will be able to travel on Lahore's first e-bus service daily.
The electric vehicle (EV) bus service will start in mid-February with 42 bus shelters to be established on the route, where buses will arrive after every nine minutes.
An app will be launched for bus tracking.
The fare of the electric bus can be paid through digital wallets and cards.
A universal transport card will also be issued for travelling in the city.
Training of 70 drivers for the electric buses has begun.
The chief minister directed the officials to review installation of solar fans and water coolers at bus stands and ordered the installation of Safe City Authority cameras at every stand. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also presided over a meeting to review an e-taxi project.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the authorities concerned to review the prospects of assembling e-taxis in Punjab along with taking steps to establish electric charging stations in collaboration with the private sector.

LAHORE: 'A successful experiment for making biogas from biodegradable animal waste has been conducted at Lakhodair in Lahore, for the first time in history,' Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif informed on Monday. While chairing a briefing session on biogas production from waste project of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), the CM directed the authorities concerned to start the 'Waste to Value' project under 'Suthra Punjab' Programme at the earliest. The chief minister was briefed by the authorities concerned, 'Approximately 20 to 25 thousand kg of gas can be produced from 1000 metric tons of waste, and a revenue of Rs 60 to 70 lakh can be generated from biogas production from the waste of sacrificial animals.' They said, '275,000 tons of carbon credits and $4.2 million income will be earned from the rehabilitation of disposal site annually.' They added, 'A pilot project for producing biogas from waste in Lahore at a cost of just a few lakhs has been successful. A 50-MW waste to energy plant will be able to convert 3,000 tons of waste into electricity daily. In 10 years, the gas obtained from the landfill site will generate $2.5 million.' The Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also reviewed a model of a recycling park, which could generate annual revenue of Rs 190 million. She was apprised, 'Rehabilitation of Lakhodair disposal site is expected to generate 2.75 lakh tons of carbon credits and $4.2 million in annual income. There will be a 60% reduction in waste from landfills through municipal solid waste treatment.' The CM was also briefed by the authorities concerned, 'Waste to Value Incubation Centre will provide technical support, seed funding, research and development opportunities for startups.' CM launches 'Waste to Value' project
"A successful experiment for making biogas from biodegradable animal waste has been conducted at Lakhodair in Lahore for the first time in history," announced Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday while chairing a briefing on the project of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC). She directed the authorities concerned to start the 'Waste to Value' project under the Suthra Punjab Programme at the earliest. The chief minister was informed that up to 25,000Kg of gas can be produced from 1,000 metric tonnes of waste, and about Rs7 milion in revenue can be generated from biogas production from the waste of sacrificial animals. Officials said 275,000 tonnes of carbon credits and $4.2 million income would be earned annually from the rehabilitation of the disposal site.

CM orders visible, improved cleanliness
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to ensure visible cleanliness and active sanitation staff across all neighborhoods of the province. She was chairing a meeting to review progress on the 'Suthra (Clean) Punjab Program', where she emphasized that as public expectations grow, performance must also improve. During the meeting, the CM was briefed in detail on various components of the program, including the introduction of e-invoicing and e-billing for sanitation fees, being implemented for the first time under the initiative. She was also informed about the Vehicle Trip Counting System and Vehicle Tracking Management System to monitor waste collection operations more effectively. Highlighting international interest in the program, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'Development institutions from the World Bank, Europe, and other countries have expressed willingness to invest in the Suthra Punjab Program.' The CM said that while the initiative is progressing successfully, complaints from certain districts regarding cleanliness must be promptly addressed. 'Contractors failing to meet performance standards should be removed,' she asserted. The CM further instructed the use of Safe City cameras to monitor sanitation conditions across Punjab.
