Patrick Mahomes Sr discovers fate of special Kansas City Chiefs request amid DWI probation
The father of the superstar Chiefs quarterback must get permission to leave Texas following his DWI arrest last year, having cut a plea deal with prosecutors for five years' probation with 'intense' supervision for the first 12 months.
And according to TMZ Sports, on July 17 Mahomes Sr requested to attend Kansas City's preseason game against the Cardinals in Arizona on August 9, a request which was granted on July 22.
The 54-year-old said he will be in Arizona from August 8-10 and plans to stay at a Glendale-area hotel throughout.
He also promised to follow the conditions of his probation while on the trip, which includes submitting a urinalysis test upon his return to Texas.
Mahomes Sr was previously arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2008 and 2019, and last year was also banned from driving after being found on the roads without a valid license. He spent 10 days in jail before cutting the plea deal.
He has previously been given a judge's permission to attend an autograph show in Minnesota and his son's charity golf event in Las Vegas back in May.
The former baseball pitcher was also allowed to head to New Orleans in February to watch his son line up in yet another Super Bowl, which ended in defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles.
There could well be more requests on the way with the Chiefs set to begin the 2025 NFL season in September, although he will be into the second year of his probation by that point.
Mahomes has two other preseason fixtures to come next month, with the second coming away to the Seattle Seahawks on August 15.
The Chiefs, who are seeking redemption after their Super Bowl crushing at the hands of the Eagles, then return to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chicago Bears on August 22.
They begin the new NFL season against the Los Angeles Charges in Brazil on September 5, before a rematch with the Eagles takes place in Kansas City on September 14.
Road trips to the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as a home clash against the Baltimore Ravens, make up their first five games of the campaign.

WASHINGTON, July 27 (Reuters) - The uproar over disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein could undermine public trust in the Trump administration, as well as Republican hopes of retaining control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections, two U.S. lawmakers said on Sunday. Republican Representative Thomas Massie and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna, who want the House of Representatives to vote on their bipartisan resolution requiring full release of the government's Epstein files, said the lack of transparency is reinforcing public perceptions that the rich and powerful live beyond the reach of the judicial system. "This is going to hurt Republicans in the midterms. The voters will be apathetic if we don't hold the rich and powerful accountable," Massie, a hardline conservative from Kentucky, told NBC's "Meet the Press" program. Republicans hope to add to their current 219-212 House majority -- with four seats currently vacant -- and 53-47 Senate majority in November 2026, although the U.S. political cycle traditionally punishes the party of the sitting president during midterm elections. Khanna said Attorney General Pam Bondi triggered "a crisis of trust" by saying there was no list of Epstein clients after previously implying that one existed. The change in position unleashed a tsunami of calls for her resignation from Trump's MAGA base. "This is about trust in government," the California Democrat told "Meet the Press." "This is about being a reform agent of transparency." President Donald Trump, who is playing golf and holding bilateral trade talks in Scotland, has been frustrated by continued questions about his administration's handling of investigative files related to Epstein's criminal charges and 2019 death by suicide in prison. Massie and Khanna believe they can win enough support from fellow lawmakers to force a vote on their resolution when Congress returns from its summer recess in September. But they face opposition from Republican leaders including House Speaker Mike Johnson, who sent lawmakers home a day early to stymie Democratic efforts to force a vote before the break. Johnson, who also appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press," said he favors a non-binding alternative resolution that calls for release of "credible" evidence, but which he said would better protect victims including minors. "Kamala, and all of those that received Endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted!" Trump said on social media. Last week he accused former President Barack Obama of "treason" over how the Obama administration treated intelligence about Russian interference in U.S. elections nine years ago, drawing a rebuke from an Obama spokesperson. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch Trump ally, said on Sunday that Tulsi Gabbard, Trump's director of national intelligence, had found new information that investigators initially discovered no evidence of Russian election interference but changed their position after Obama told them to keep looking. "I'm not alleging he committed treason, but I am saying it bothers me," Graham told "Meet the Press." "The best way to handle this is if there is evidence of a crime being committed, or suspected evidence of a crime being committed, create a special counsel to look at it," Graham added. Report: Dolphins, Minkah Fitzpatrick agree to reworked deal
July 27 - The Miami Dolphins and All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed to a reworked contract, ESPN reported on Sunday. Fitzpatrick will receive a $16.435 million signing bonus and Miami will save $11 million against the 2025 salary cap, per the report. The Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick from Pittsburgh last month in a trade that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers. Fitzpatrick signed a four-year, $73.6 million extension with the Steelers in 2022 and hopes to eventually sign a long-term deal with Miami, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. "We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multiyear extension," Rosenhaus told ESPN on Sunday.
