Revanth Reddy Bats For Telugu OBC Leader Bandaru Dattatreya For Vice President Post

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday demanded former Union Minister and ex-Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, an OBC leader from Telangana, be made the Vice President of India. He said the post should be given to Telangana as Telugu was the second-most spoken language in the country, and justice to the native speakers must be done. Meanwhile, he termed as "unfortunate" the resignation of former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar. "The next Vice President should be from Telangana. Telangana deserves its due. You cannot do so much injustice to the people of Telangana. Telugu is the second most spoken language in India after Hindi, and then comes Bengali. Injustice has been done to our people. "I have demanded that the NDA government appoint Bandaru Dattatreya as the next Vice President of India. If Dattatreya is made the vice president, then some of your sins will be forgiven," the Congress leader told reporters here. Mr Dattatreya was the Haryana governor during 2019-2021. He was made the governor of Himachal Pradesh in July 2021 and vacated that post on July 21 this year. Mr Reddy said he proposed Mr Dattatreya's name because there is so much talk about OBCs these days, and Dattatreya, an OBC, was removed from the post of governor. He said Bandi Sanjay was also axed as the BJP president of Telangana, as he termed both these leaders the main face of Telugu OBCs. "They sent a person of Telugu-speaking person back home from Delhi (referring to former VP M Venkaiah Naidu). Then they removed Bandaru Dattatreya as governor and then removed Bandi Sanjay as Telangana BJP president," said Mr Reddy, attacking the BJP-led Centre. Asked if the Congress would support Mr Dattatreya's candidature, he said, "I will try and help Bandaru Dattatreya, and I will also request my leadership to support him too, but the Congress leadership will take a call on it." Mr Reddy also alleged that the country is in danger till the NDA government is in power, and it has to be removed.

Pawan Kalyan backs Hindi, says it's a necessity for him

In an exclusive interview with India Today, actor-politician Pawan Kalyan spoke on Hindi language row, portrayal of Mughals in textbooks, his upcoming film, 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' where the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb is portrayed as the antagonist and other issues. On the language debate, Pawan Kalyan said, 'Today, we are speaking in English, not because we love English, because it has, because of English rule or colonial rule, it became a necessity. In the same way, Hindi is also a necessity for me. Today, I am able to speak Tamil it is because of it. I love it and it is a necessary way of a language to communicate, especially when I am doing films, as I grew up in Chennai also. It is vice versa, if I go to Karnataka, that is what I try to speak, if I go to Maharashtra, I try to pick up a few lines of Marathi. I think that is what we all should understand, a multi-linguistic approach or perspective is needed to each and every citizen of this nation. I think it is good for the linguistic integration and cultural integration, I firmly believe in it."

CM wants leader from Telangana to be made Vice President

Terming the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as unfortunate, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked the BJP-led Central government to nominate a leader from Telangana to the coveted post. He favoured nomination of senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya for the post claiming that the BJP could undo part of injustice it had done to the backward classes communities by nominating him to the coveted post. 'Telugu is the most spoken language after Hindi and there should be representation from Telangana at the national level in the form of Vice President,' he said. He however clarified that a decision on the choice of Vice President would be taken by the All India Congress Committee and asserted that he would request the Congress leadership if need be in this regard. He alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government was scuttling opportunities of the OBCs as could be seen from the removal of Bandi Sanjay from the BJP State president post and Mr. Bandaru Dattareya who relinquished his post as Haryana Governor. 'Venkaiah Naidu, the Telugu face tipped to be the President, was sent back. The NDA government should do justice to backward classes by nominating Mr. Dattatreya to the Vice President's post,' he said. Replying to a query, he said the country was in danger as long as the BJP-led government was in power and it would continue to be so till the BJP was removed from power.
