Actor Konkona Sen Sharma is gearing up for the release of Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino. In an interview with Firstpost, the actor shared her take on maintaining a work-life balance in the industry and what needs to change. (Also read: Sara Ali Khan says mom Amrita Singh reading trolls' comments about her is hurtful: 'If I could block her social media') Konkona Sen Sharma said society 'expects' working mothers to participate to the demands of work in every way.(AFP)
During the interview, Konkona said, 'I genuinely want to say that in today's day and age, there is a certain motherhood penalty in any industry, which happens. It's called the fatherhood premium and the motherhood penalty. Because what happens is that fathers, as they have children and they become more and more senior, they earn more and more. But for women with every child, there is a financial setback because you're not able to kind of participate in the way society expects you to or for that matter what the office work demands.'
She went on to add, 'Now what's going to happen ultimately is that women are not incentivized to have children at all because it's becoming more and more difficult. You know, to participate in the work life, and to be a good mother at the same time is becoming more and more difficult. So, I feel that this is something that eventually the governments will have to kind of change policies for working mothers. Otherwise it's not going to happen.'
Konkona got married to Ranvir Shorey in 2010. They separated in 2015 and divorced in 2020. They have a son named Haroon.
Metro In Dino also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher. The film is scheduled to release on July 4.

Late fashion icon Lagerfeld's villa sold for 4.7 mn euros
A villa outside Paris once owned by late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld sold at auction on June 1 for 4.7 million euros, under a traditional method where time is counted by candles. (FILES) This photograph shows the exterior of a house that belonged to the late German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, in Louveciennes, near Paris. (Photo by Kiran RIDLEY / AFP)(AFP) Bought in 2010 by Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, the villa in Louveciennes west of Paris fetched just above the asking price of 4.6 million euros ($5.4 million). Abandoned after his death, the house was purchased in 2023 by a real estate company. Held in a style the late designer himself may have approved of, the sale took place according to the traditional notary auction method, as a so-called "candle auction". In a candle auction, which is still commonplace in France, the sale time is defined by the burning of two small candles, each lasting about fifteen seconds. The villa is in a two-hectare (five acre) park with three separate houses, a swimming pool and a tennis court. The house is surrounded by trees or walls ensuring "discretion and anonymity", said Jerome Cauro, of Arias, the firm handling the sale. The designer's studio occupied a large part of the first floor of the main house. "He put everything into this last house; he really loved it. He called it 'the true version of himself'," his muse and associate, Amanda Harlech, told Vogue in 2021. The former Chanel creative director even had his childhood bedroom recreated in a small room with leopard-print walls. According to Arias, the fashion legend carried out "colossal works" on the property, which belonged to the 19th century poet Leconte de Lisle and members of the Rothschild family in the first half of the 19th century. "We don't have the bill, but we estimate that the cost of the work is close to the asking price," said Arno Felber, also a notary at Arias. Legend has it that Lagerfeld only slept there one night The mansion was above all "a property for peace, rest and study", where Lagerfeld liked to entertain guests, said Felber. In March 2024, Lagerfeld's futuristic three-room Paris apartment was sold for 10 million euros by firm Althemis, twice its asking price.

Life In A Metro Sequel Was Irrfan's Idea, Says Anurag Basu: ‘I Was Scared…'
Last Updated: Anurag Basu reveals it was after the release of Jagga Jasoos that Irrfan told him to make Life In A Metro 2 and why Irrfan-Konkona Sensharma's story was ahead of the curve. 18 years after Life In A Metro comes its spiritual sequel, Metro In Dino. It's being reported that it also marks the last chapter of Anurag Basu's hyperlinked cinema. Much like its predecessor, it deals with the themes of modern relationships and its four stories are set in four metro cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru. Recently, Anurag had revealed that the film is an ode to Irrfan and KK, both of who were an integral part of Life In A Metro. Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Anurag says that it was, in fact, Irrfan's idea to turn the 2007 film into a sequel. Talking about it, he tells us, 'Post Jagga Jasoos, Irrfan and I were talking about a sequel to Life In A Metro. He, in fact, had given me the idea to start working on it. He told me, 'Metro 2 banaate hai.' He told me about it much later, not immediately after the first film." Interestingly, back in 2017, there were reports doing the rounds that Irrfan has already signed on the dotted lines and will be a part of the second film. Anurag, however, had no plans of making a trilogy of hyperlinked films. 'I didn't have any plans of making a trilogy. I was scared if Life In A Metro would even work. It was something very different. But after that, I got a hang of it. I started enjoying writing hyperlinked films. Then Ludo happened," shares the Gangster and Kites director. But it seems like Metro In Dino may not be the final film of his hyperlinked story series. 'I'm not going to make such films anymore because it's like writing four films in one and that takes too much time. But while it's challenging, it's also fun. The best part is getting to work with a whole team of actors. Hyperlinked films mein yeh ek maza hai. But as of now, Metro In Dino feels like the final one. That's not to say that there's no possibility of making another hyperlinked film but even if I do, I don't think it's going to happen very soon," Anurag states. Dating apps, an intrinsic part of modern-day love, may have witnessed an influx in India after 2007 but Anurag feels that the storyline featuring Konkona Sensharma and Irrfan in Life In A Metro was ahead of the curve. 'Their characters had met online – on a matrimonial site. A lot has changed in these 18 years and we should come to terms with it. People are less expressive in person now. They speak their hearts out, virtually. They can convey all their emotions in a true form online. Aaj kal one-to-one mein nahi hota hai," he opines. And what has been his personal takeaway from his previous relationships? 'What love has taught me is that I've started seeing the world and stories of people from a woman's point of view. I've learnt to see things from their perspective after falling in love and that has really helped me as a creative person," says Anurag. First Published:
