Kajol recalls feeling ‘helpless' during husband Ajay Devgn's fight with YRF: ‘Fights are always difficult'

Actress Kajol was last seen in Vishal Furia's mythological horror film Maa, which received a poor response from both critics and audiences, and underperformed at the box office. She will next appear in Sarzameen, alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. In a recent conversation with Lallantop, Kajol recalled being caught in the middle of a dispute between her husband Ajay Devgn and Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films during the 2012 box office clash between Son of Sardaar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Talking about that controversy, Kajol, 'Fights are always difficult, especially when they remain unresolved for some time. At that point, when you have a situation like that in front of you, both parties were standing for themselves. As somebody who was connected to both sides, I felt helpless. You have to wait for time to pass so that the feelings subside. So that things can become ok again.'

She added, 'Change is change, it is neither good nor bad. It is written somewhere that change is eternal. It is the only thing which is constant.'
Back in 2012, Ajay Devgn and Yash Raj Films had locked horns over Son Of Sardaar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan's clash at the box office. Ajay's company had filed a complaint with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) that YRF used its power to acquire more screens for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, resulting in their film not getting enough screens to release.

Maa Box Office Collection Day 10: Kajol's Horror Thriller Crosses Rs 30-Crore Mark

Kajol's first horror film, Maa, released on June 27, 2025, has been performing well at the box office. By the second Sunday, it crossed the Rs 30 crore mark. Kajol's first horror movie Maa is doing really well in theatres! The film, which released on June 27, has been getting a great response from the audience. Even in its second week, it's pulling in strong numbers. On Sunday (July 6), Maa crossed the Rs 30 crore mark at the box office. Maa seems to be picking up pace again at the box office. As per early numbers from Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 2.35 crore on its 10th day (Sunday), showing a clear jump from Saturday's collection of Rs 1.75 crore. Thanks to the weekend boost, the Kajol-starrer has now crossed the Rs 30 crore milestone, bringing its total earnings to Rs 31.60 crore. The film has managed to stay strong through its second week. Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa has held its own despite facing tough competition from biggies like Sitaare Zameen Par and Kannappa. Maa had opened with Rs 4.65 crore on its first day. In Maa, a mythological horror thriller, Kajol takes on the powerful role of Ambika, a fearless mother who will stop at nothing to protect her daughter from dark, supernatural forces. The film blends myth and mystery, marking Kajol's first foray into the horror genre. Alongside her, the cast includes Indraneil Sengupta, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma. Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa is backed by producers Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Subbarayan. A part of the review of Maa by News18 read, 'The concept and story have substance, but the film lacked largely because of its style of storytelling. Besides, the film also has a lot of stereotypes that could have been done without. Besides the exaggeration that the palace had a almost 30-feet tall Kali maa's stone carved statue, the way people from Chandrapur talk in the film, everything seems to be a cliche that all the Bengalis would be running away from. It only gets disappointing to see Ronit Roy, who plays a vital part in the film, deliver all his Hindi dialogues with such a heavy Bengali accent. A lot would argue that it is not how people from Bengal speak when they talk in Hindi." First Published:

Kajol reveals she ran away from boarding school with her friend at 11: ‘I was waiting in the bus, but…'

Kajol has always been open about how much she loves and admires her mother, the veteran actress Tanuja. But in a recent chat, Kajol shared a story from her childhood that many people didn't know. It's a tale that shows just how deep her bond is with her mother and the strong line of women in her family. Growing up with strong women Speaking to The Lallantop, Kajol looked back fondly on her childhood. She grew up in a busy house with four generations of women under one roof, her great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and herself. That kind of upbringing left a big impact on her. She said, 'I got to know that my maternal grandmother's mother was very sick. I called my mom, but she didn't allow me to come back home because I had exams. My holidays were in December, so she asked me to come in December only. I was 11 at that time." Even after so many years, Kajol remembered this moment very clearly. A daring plan to escape Kajol was just 11 then, studying in a boarding school in Panchgani, which is nearly five hours away from Mumbai. But she didn't let distance stop her from trying to be with her family. Overcome with emotion and a strong will to act, she made a bold plan to run away. 'Another one of my friends was also unhappy, and we both decided to run away from the boarding school. We both decided to go to Bombay," she shared, laughing a little at the memory. It was a plan full of childlike bravery and love. Almost halfway home Kajol didn't stop at planning. She actually put her little plan into action. 'I went to my local guardian, my mama in Panchgani, and I told him that mom has called me home. I asked him to take me to the bus stand," she said. Her uncle believed her and took her to the bus stand. It seemed like everything was working out. But her freedom didn't last long. 'While I was waiting in the bus, the nuns came, and they pulled me by my ear and took me back to the school." Boarding school taught her life lessons Even though her runaway adventure was cut short, Kajol still thinks fondly of her boarding school days. 'There, kids learn the value of their parents. It makes you better at adapting to society," she explained. Sending her own children to boarding school Kajol believes so much in what boarding schools offer that she decided to send her own children there too. 'I like boarding schools, and I sent Nysa also to one. Now, I want to send my son Yug as well to the boarding school," she confirmed. On the work front, Kajol's horror thriller 'Maa' is now running in the cinemas.

Kherin Sharma and Rupkatha Chakraborty are both impressive as young girls caught in the storm of ancient evil. Ronit Bose Roy lends solid support as the village sarpanch. While it doesn't reinvent the genre, the film delivers a mythologically rooted horror tale that makes for a decent one-time watch. "
