Morocco: Rabat Hosts 4th Training Cycle for African Election Observers
The opening ceremony was co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Bankole Adeoye.
This annual event, organized in partnership with the AU's Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department, is part of Morocco's commitment—driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI—to a stable, peaceful, and prosperous Africa.
This training aligns with decisions made by the AU's Conference of Heads of State and Government, including those adopted during the most recent AU Summit in February 2025, which called on the Kingdom of Morocco to continue enhancing African capacities to improve the effectiveness of election observation missions.
The 4th edition saw the participation of more than 120 young civil society actors, experts, and high-ranking officials from all five regions of the continent, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, Niger, and Sudan. This session is also marked by significant female participation, with women accounting for 68% of all participants.
By running this specialized training cycle for the fourth year in a row, the Kingdom continues to stand out as Africa's leading provider of trained election observers to oversee electoral processes across the continent. Conducted in Rabat, the program contributes significantly to strengthening African capacities in the electoral field.
The 2025 edition also features the organization of the 2nd Dialogue-Seminar on Elections and Democracy in Africa, titled "Inclusive Governance: Amplifying Women's Leadership in African Electoral and Democratic Processes."
This seminar enriches the training program by addressing topics focused on political dialogue and key issues related to democracy, governance, and electoral processes on the continent.
This 4th edition marks a key milestone in the Rabat-based training process, aimed at equipping the African Union with an important database to serve election observation across Africa and promote democracy, peace, and security throughout the continent.

These efforts are part of the 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3', which aims to deliver food and relief supplies to the most affected areas in the Highness highlighted that this operation represents an efficient model for international cooperation in providing a humanitarian response, reflecting a steadfast commitment to the principle of solidarity with impacted nations. His Highness reaffirmed that the UAE remains one of the leading countries supporting the brotherly Palestinian people, whether through direct relief efforts or continuous political and diplomatic action. Joint Statement on the Inaugural Joint Oversight Committee Meeting for the Peace Agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda
On July 31, 2025, representatives from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda (Rwanda), along with observers from the United States, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Togo (as the African Union facilitator), and the African Union Commission held the first meeting of the Joint Oversight Committee for the Peace Agreement Between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Republic of Rwanda that was signed in Washington, D.C. on June 27, 2025. The Joint Oversight Committee is charged with serving as a forum for implementation and dispute resolution of the peace agreement. The Committee is responsible for receiving complaints about violations of the agreement, taking appropriate measures to address violations, and amicably settling disputes. During the first meeting, the parties selected their Chairpersons for the Committee, adopted terms of reference to govern future meetings of the Committee, discussed progress on implementing the Agreement, and prepared for the first meeting of the Joint Security Coordination Mechanism. The African Union, State of Qatar, and the United States participated in these discussions to ensure complementarity and alignment between implementation efforts and on-going initiatives aimed at dialogue and durable peace in the region. Both the DRC and Rwanda expressed their appreciation for the invaluable contributions and joint efforts of the African Union, United States, and Qatar as partners in advancing a peaceful resolution. Namibia: Ambassador appointed to Windhoek
At its session on 1 August, the Government promoted Counsellor Katja Kalamäki to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs, starting on 1 September 2025. The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Kalamäki to serve as Head of Mission at Finland's Embassy in Windhoek from 1 September 2025. Kalamäki will transfer to Windhoek from the Unit for Northern Europe and Regional Cooperation, where she has served as Director since 2021. Before that, she worked as Diplomatic Adviser to the Foreign Minister in the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2013–2021. Kalamäki has prior experience on Finnish missions abroad from Islamabad, where she served as Deputy Head of Mission in 2010–2011, and from the Permanent Mission of Finland to the UN in New York, where she worked in 2011–2013 specialising in human rights and equality issues.
