Almost 1,000 Schools Selected For MADANI School Programme
PUTRAJAYA, June 20 (Bernama) -- Nearly 1,000 schools have been selected for the MADANI Adopted School Programme, implemented in collaboration with around 117 private companies, aimed at addressing the educational gap across the country.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that the MADANI Adopted School initiative reflects the government's belief that quality education is a shared responsibility.
"By combining the expertise of the government and private sectors, this programme aims to ensure that no student is left behind.
"Initially, we only targeted 500 schools, but we see the commitment and feel it would be unfair if we do not invite the bodies (companies) that have long focused on our schools," she said during her speech at the launch of the MADANI Adopted Schools by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Fadhlina said that the organisations adopting the foster schools have committed to long-term cooperation focusing on five main areas, namely improving school infrastructure and facilities; enhancing academic programmes and student guidance; strengthening teacher training and development; providing financial assistance and scholarships; and developing students' character and skills.
"Therefore, the focus is not only on one segment but more broadly, while the overall development of the school not only includes infrastructure development but also human development is given attention," she said.
Meanwhile, according to a Ministry of Education (MOE) statement, through the MADANI Adopted School Programme, organisations with extensive resources are matched with schools that need support.
The support received includes contributions from 32 private companies, 29 government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies (GLICs), 29 government agencies, and 27 companies owned by the Minister of Finance (Incorporated).
The statement said that each organisation selects a foster school based on its capabilities and the specific needs of the school.

With the integration of digital technology and a unified utility mapping system under KUS, Hajiji said project approvals will be accelerated, overlapping of work can be reduced, and field safety will be enhanced. 'This approach will have a significant impact not just on the smooth execution of government and private sector projects, but also supports Sabah's digitalisation agenda, investment competitiveness and smart city development,' he said. He added that this is a clear example of how public-private sector synergy can yield high-impact solutions for the people. Hajiji also emphasised that improved coordination of utility processes would unlock more areas for development, which in turn would stimulate economic activities and create employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas. 'Projects like this will reinforce industrial logistics and expand access to basic amenities such as electricity, clean water and telecommunications for our rural communities,' he added. Hajiji also called on all staff of KUSSB and Qhazanah Sabah Berhad to carry out their duties with professionalism and unwavering commitment, ensuring the corridor brings real benefits to the people. 'We've laid a solid foundation. Now is the time to execute it with courage and conviction,' he stressed.

Zabariah assumes duties as Court of Appeal president

In a letter dated yesterday, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim, who is assuming the powers and duties of the Chief Justice, said Zabariah's appointment, effective yesterday, is made under Section 9 (3) (a) of the Court of Judicature Act 1964. Advertisement According to the letter, she is to exercise the powers and duties of the Court of Appeal president until the position is permanently filled. A copy of the letter was also sent to the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli, Federal Court Chief Registrar Datuk Zamri Bakar and Court of Appeal Registrar Jumirah Marjuki. Zabariah was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner and later served at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on January 5, 2009. She was confirmed as a High Court judge on Aug 9, 2010, and on Jan 2, 2013, was assigned to the Seremban High Court. In 2016, she returned to serve as a High Court judge at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. Zabariah was appointed as a Court of Appeal Judge on March 21, 2016, and as a Federal Court judge on Dec 5, 2019. She turned 66 last April 10, but was given a six-month extension. In March, Zabariah was appointed as a member of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC). Ringgit opens marginally higher vs US dollar
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened marginally higher against the US dollar amidst improving United States (US) economic data, which supported the greenback, said an analyst. At 8 am, the local note rose to 4.2125/2280 against the greenback, from Thursday's close of 4.2195/2255. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the ringgit remains well-supported, underpinned by the government's commitment to ongoing fiscal reforms such as the sales and service tax (SST) and RON95 subsidies rationalisation. "The foreign interest in Malaysian Government Securities (MGS) and Government Investment Issue (GII) has also been quite positive," he told Bernama. On the dollar performance, Mohd Afzanizam said the US Dollar Index (DXY) rose 0.42 per cent to 97.18 points as the latest jobs report indicates a resilient US labour market. He said the US economy looks resilient, which has led to lower expectations for an interest cut by the US Federal Reserve (Fed). "The two-year US Treasury note yielded 10 basis points higher to 3.88 per cent," he told Bernama. At the close, the ringgit traded mostly lower against a basket of major currencies. It advanced against the Japanese yen to 2.9098/9207 from 2.9333/9376, appreciated versus the British pound to 5.7568/7780 from 5.7621/7703, and rose against the euro to 4.9577/9759 from 4.9756/9827 yesterday. The local note also traded higher against its ASEAN counterparts. It improved vis-à-vis the Singapore dollar to 3.3057/3182 from 3.3146/3196, went up against the Thai baht to 12.9835/13.0421 from 13.0211/0457, and strengthened against the Philippine peso to 7.48/7.52 from 7.50/7.51. However, it was almost flat against the Indonesian rupiah at 260.0/261.1 from 260.5/261.0 at yesterday's close. - Bernama
