Kosovo President Osmani concludes four-day visit to Malaysia
A red-carpet farewell ceremony was held at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here, featuring a guard of honour mounted by the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial). She left at about noon on Sunday (May 4).
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek was present to bid farewell to Osmani and her delegation.
Osmani arrived in Malaysia on Thursday (May 1), marking her first visit to the country since assuming office on April 4, 2021.
On Friday (May 2), Osmani was accorded an official welcoming ceremony, followed by a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
One of the highlights of the visit was the conferment of Kosovo's highest civilian honour, the Order of Independence, upon Anwar.
The award is granted to individuals who have made significant contributions towards the country's independence.
The Kosovo government also conferred the award posthumously on former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in recognition of his contributions during a pivotal moment in the country's history.
In a joint press conference on Friday, Anwar said Malaysia remains committed to working with Kosovo beyond traditional diplomatic ties, expanding into trade, investment and broader cooperation between both nations.
Meanwhile, Osmani said Kosovo is set to deepen diplomatic, economic and security ties with Malaysia, signified by the opening of its embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
Expressing deep gratitude for Malaysia's longstanding support, Osmani said the bond between the two nations was built not only through diplomacy but also on shared values of unity, dignity and diversity.
Malaysia officially recognised Kosovo on Oct 30, 2008, becoming one of the first Asian countries to do so. Diplomatic relations were formally established on March 18, 2011.
In 2024, total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Kosovo reached RM28.55mil (USD6.0mil), with Malaysia's exports to the republic valued at RM25.92mil (USD5.5mil) and imports at RM2.63mil (USD550,000).
Key Malaysian exports include palm oil, electrical and electronic products, and manufactured goods, while imports from Kosovo mainly consist of raw materials and semi-precious stones. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that Malaysia's success in reducing the US tariff rate is due to effective leadership. He said the previous 25% tariff was a serious concern due to its potential economic impact. "The 25% tariff that worried us has been reduced to just 19%. If it had remained high, the impact on our economy would have been substantial. "We are a hub for semiconductors and electrical and electronics (E&E) in Southeast Asia. "Our exports to the United States alone make up 60% of total E&E exports – how much is that? "This is why leadership must have the ability to manage not just within the country but also internationally. "Some people ask what does it have to do with the US? It has to do with saving tens of thousands of our workers. It has to do with securing high tax revenues so they can be returned to the people," he said. He explained that the government had been engaged in months of negotiations because the 25% rate was simply too high. "We negotiated for months because the 25% tariff imposed on us was too high. There were conditions that were imposed." Anwar said that Malaysia's position is as a trading nation with broad global ties. "We trade with the US, with China, with India, with Australia, with the Arab world." He also highlighted Malaysia's leadership in organising key international forums, including a recent historic summit involving Asean, wealthy Arab Gulf nations, and China. "Two months ago, for the first time, we brought together Asean, the Gulf countries – rich Arab nations like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain – together with China. "This is a record. It was not done by me alone; Malaysia did it through the strength of the Malaysian people," Anwar said. He said Asean leaders acknowledged Malaysia's effectiveness, including the region's most senior figure. "A senior leader in Asean – the Sultan of Brunei – told me that although dozens of Asean summits have been held, he is proud because the Asean-Gulf-China summit in Kuala Lumpur was the largest and the most efficiently organised by our friends." Anwar concluded by stating that while Malaysia does not always agree with the policies of its partners, it remains firm and principled. "We do not agree with all policies, but we are a trading nation. We are friends with everyone, but we still dare to state our stance with courage."

FGV delisting to begin Aug 28, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: The process to delist FGV Holdings Berhad from Bursa Malaysia starts on Aug 28, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said the move was possible due to sound management, and praised Felda's leadership. "Because of good management – thank you to the Director-General and the entire Felda management – we can begin the delisting on August 28," he said on Saturday (Aug 2) at the National Felda Settlers' Day Celebration and Rural Entrepreneurs' Carnival. "This means that Felda is no longer bound. Felda is a strength. FGV can now determine its own direction and provide assurance through the cooperative so that settlers' interests and benefits are prioritised,' said Anwar. Anwar added that the government would ensure FGV remains aligned with Felda's founding purpose. "Once this matter is settled, I, together with Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and our colleagues want to ensure a clear directive from the government; ensure that FGV returns to Felda's original objectives." He emphasised that FGV's focus must be on the settlers. "The priority is the settlers – their rights, their returns, and the cooperative they themselves have determined," he said, referring to Koperasi Permodalan Felda Malaysia Bhd. Anwar also stated that FGV's next phase would be critical. "Next, they will manage the initial few months so that Felda projects will succeed as intended," he said.

Royal Brunei Land Forces welcomes new commander
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Colonel Aldi Hassan has been appointed as the 15th Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) and a parade ceremony was held at the First Battalion (1Bn RBLF) Parade Square, Berakas Garrison to welcome him. In his speech, Colonel Aldi urged the RBLF personnel to advance Brunei Vision 2035 and fortify national defence. The Commander of the RBLF expressed loyalty to His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and outlined his vision for the RBLF, guided by the Defence White Paper 2021's three pillars: Deterrence and Response, Defence Diplomacy, and Holistic Defence. He emphasised their alignment with Maqasid Syariah principles, aiming to cultivate 'Mission-Ready Land Forces' characterised by operational readiness, strong leadership and team cohesion, prioritising personnel well-being, encompassing welfare, health, safety and work-life balance, alongside spiritual development rooted in Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy, remains central to his leadership. Upon arrival, the newly appointed Commander of the RBLF received the honorary salute and proceeded to inspect the parade comprising 517 personnel from all RBLF units, commanded by Second-in-Command of the Engineer Regiment Major Abdul Rahim Adris.
