Kyrgyz president visits Malaysia to strengthen bilateral ties
PUTRAJAYA: The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, who is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, attended an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex here today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received Zhaparov upon his arrival at 9 am, with the national anthems of both countries played as a mark of respect. Zhaparov then inspected a guard of honour mounted by three officers and 103 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Major Nur Ahmad Zaim Zahari. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, other Cabinet members, foreign diplomats and senior government officials. Zhaparov then signed the guest book before proceeding to a bilateral meeting with Anwar. According to the Foreign Ministry, the leaders are expected to explore opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, renewable and green energy, the halal industry, agricommodity, tourism, education, and capacity-building through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). Both leaders will also witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on tourism, digital transformation and cybersecurity, higher education, health, trade promotion, economic cooperation, scientific and research collaboration, as well as an Exchange of Notes on youth development and training for diplomats. A Letter of Intent on legal cooperation will also be signed. The visit marks Zhaparov's maiden official trip to Malaysia since assuming office in January 2021, and reciprocates Anwar's official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in May last year. In 2024, the Kyrgyz Republic was Malaysia's fourth-largest trading partner among Central Asian countries, with total bilateral trade valued at RM40 million (USD8.74 million). Malaysia's main exports to the Kyrgyz Republic included electrical and electronic products, palm oil and palm oil-based agricultural products, machinery, equipment and parts. Its key imports from the Kyrgyz Republic comprised chemicals and chemical products, electrical and electronic products, and processed food. Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic established diplomatic relations on May 21, 1992, following Kyrgyzstan's independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov arrives in Malaysia for two-day official visit
SEPANG: Kyrgyz Republic President Sadyr Zhaparov has arrived in Malaysia for a two-day official visit. The special aircraft carrying Zhaparov and his delegation landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 6.45pm on Tuesday (June 24), where they were welcomed by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. Zhaparov then inspected a guard of honour consisting of 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (Ceremonial). According to Wisma Putra, the visit marks the President's maiden visit to Malaysia since assuming office in January 2021. It was held to reciprocate the official visit made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the Kyrgyz Republic in May 2024. On Wednesday (June 25), Zhaparov will be accorded an official welcome at Perdana Putra, followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar. Both leaders are expected to deliberate on strengthening bilateral cooperation, including trade and investment, renewable energy and green energy, halal industry, agricommodity, tourism, education as well as capacity-building assistance through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). They will then witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding (MOU) in the field of tourism, digital transformation and cybersecurity, higher education, health, trade promotion, economic cooperation as well as scientific and research cooperation, and the exchange of notes in the fields of youth and training for diplomats, as well as Letter of Intent on legal cooperation. Anwar will also host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex in honour of the visiting president and his delegation. Polish President Andrzej Duda concludes official visit to Malaysia
SEPANG: Polish President Andrzej Duda departed for Singapore today after concluding a three-day official visit to Malaysia, his first to the country since assuming office in August 2015. A red-carpet farewell ceremony was held for Duda at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), featuring a guard of honour mounted by 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, led by Capt Mohd Masrur Hidayat Masri. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Polish Ambassador to Malaysia Krzysztof Dobrowolski were in attendance. The special aircraft carrying Duda, his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda, and his delegation, took off at 5.10pm. In a joint statement yesterday, Malaysia and Poland agreed to strengthen defence cooperation, including exploring long-term procurement opportunities and strategic engagement between their respective defence ministries. During the visit, Duda and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also held extensive discussions on deepening collaboration in defence among other key sectors such as food technology, digital technology, renewable energy and the halal industry. Anwar also welcomed the encouraging 19.5 per cent year-on-year growth in bilateral trade between 2023 and 2024, calling it a clear reflection of the deepening economic partnership between the two countries. He also conveyed Malaysia's sincere appreciation to Poland for extending humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, particularly through its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the provision of emergency relief. In addition to the Gaza issue, the two leaders also discussed broader global and regional developments, including Malaysia's experience within Asean, ties with China and the country's engagement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Duda's visit coincided with a significant juncture, as Malaysia assumes the Asean Chairmanship in 2025, while Poland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the same period. In 2024, Poland was Malaysia's eighth-largest trading partner among European Union member states, with total bilateral trade rising by 19.5 per cent to RM5.66 billion compared to 2023. Malaysia's major exports to Poland include electrical and electronic products, rubber products and machinery, while key imports from Poland consist of machinery, equipment and parts, electrical and electronic products, and transport equipment.
