All about Indian Army's new Rudra brigade and Bhairav Commando units
The Rudra brigades and the Bhairav light commando battalion are a part of the army's future-ready force.
Army chief general Upendra Dwivedi said the creation of the new units will increase the force 'multifold'. He made the announcement during the Kargil Vijay Diwas in Drass on Saturday.
But what exactly are the 'Rudra' brigade and the 'Bhairav' light commando battalions?

The Indian Army has reportedly converted two of its infantry brigades, which are deployed on the border, into Rudra brigades. The Rudra brigades include components such as infantry, mechanised infantry, tanks, artillery units, special forces and unmanned aerial systems.
"Rudra, all of the brigade, is being established for which I gave approval yesterday. Under this, we will have infantry, mechanised infantry, armoured units, artillery, special forces and unmanned aerial units at one place to provide logistics and combat support," CoAS general Upendra Dwivedi said.
Rudra Brigades are all-arms formations that combine infantry, mechanised units, tanks, artillery, special forces, and unmanned aerial systems with dedicated logistics and combat support.
On the other hand, the army has also formed a lethal Special Forces unit named Bhairav Light Commando Battalion.. The unit is "always ready to surprise the enemy at the border."
"We are driven towards becoming a developed, modern and futuristic power. A new brigade is being established, and I approved it yesterday. This will have fighting components like mechanised infantry, armoured units, artillery, special forces with logistic and combat support... Special forces have also been established that will always be ready to shock the enemy on the border," general Dwivedi said about the 'Bhairav' commandos.
The plan involves converting existing units and formations without fresh troop accretions, the Times of India reported, quoting a senior officer.
As part of the plan, 250 single-arm brigades (over 3,000 soldiers each) are now being converted to all-arms ones with integration of fighting elements like infantry, mechanised infantry, armoured (tanks), artillery, Special Forces and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), it reported. These brigades will be backed by customised logistics and combat support.

Big boost for Indian Armed Forces: DAC clears ₹67,000 crore proposals to enhance operational capability
The Defence Acquisition Council under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday cleared proposals worth nearly ₹ 67,000 crore to enhance operational capability of armed forces, the Centre said. The proposals include several defence equipment requirements for the Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force. The DAC gave an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the Indian Army to procure Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMP. 'This would enhance night driving capability of BMP and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry,' the defence ministry said in a press release. The council, headed by Rajnath Singh, also accorded an AoN to the Indian Navy whereby it can procure the Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, and BrahMos Fire Control System and Launchers. A proposal to upgrade the BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System was also cleared. The procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will provide the capability to the Indian Navy for detection, classification and neutralisation of threats in anti-submarine warfare missions, the Centre said. For the Indian Air Force, AoN for procurement of Mountain Radars and Upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System was accorded. The procurement of mountain radars will enhance the air surveillance capability along and across the borders in the mountainous region. The upgradation of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER System for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System will enhance the Air Defence capability, the ministry said. An AoN was accorded for procuring Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for the three Services. The proposed MALE RPAs can carry multiple payloads & weapons and operate at longer ranges for long endurance missions. Crossborder Firing By Pakistan In Poonch, Indian Side Retaliates: Sources
The reports of Pakistani firing along the Line of Control came from Mankote sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district Days after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch, there were reports of crossborder firing by Pakistan in the Mankote sector of the district on Tuesday. According to sources, the firing from across the border was unprovoked but the Indian side retaliated effectively. This comes soon after two heavily-armed terrorists, believed to be members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in a fierce gunfight on July 30. Army troops had foiled their infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. This was also days after security forces eliminated three hardcore terrorists, who were involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in a forest in Srinagar. The army had said the operation on July 30, conducted under the code name 'ShivShakti', was a major setback to nefarious designs of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist organisations that are constantly abetting acts of terror in Jammu and Kashmir. It had recovered war-like stores including two assault rifles with ammunition, one pistol with ammunition, hand grenades, two improvised explosive devices, medicines, communication device and other logistic stores.
