Muzammil Ibrahim Claims Was Removed From YJHD: 'This Had Nothing To Do With Deepika'
Last Updated:
Muzammil claimed that Ayan Mukerji assured him that he would give him the script of the film, but it never happened.
Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani remains one of the most popular films to date. Released in 2013, the movie starred Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin in the lead. However, in one of his recent interviews, actor Muzammil Ibrahim claimed that when Ayan was writing his movie, he was considering him for the role of Avi – which was later played by Aditya Roy Kapur.
'Ayan liked me a lot. He told me that he was writing Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani keeping me in mind," Muzammil told Siddharth Kannan. Asked if this had anything to do with Deepika Padukone, who was in a relationship with him in the past, Ibrahim shared, 'This had nothing to do with her". However, he claimed that it was he who suggested Deepika's name for the movie.
'He would often discuss casting with me, if he should take Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif… He would discuss this with me. We were very close. Deepika was the right cast for that film and I told him the same thing," Muzammil said.
Talking about what fell apart and why he was not a part of YJHD, Muzammil shared, 'What happened was… it went to the casting agents later on. And I hashed it out for a long time because there was a misunderstanding between me and Ayan for a long time as to why he didn't cast me."
Muzammil claimed that Ayan assured him that he would give him the script of the film, but it never happened. He blamed casting agents for the same and alleged that they played dirty. 'Ayan told me that he will give me the script to read. And the casting agents came in the way and what they did, and how they communicated between me and Ayan," he said.
'Ayan told me that I really wanted you in this film so obviously you feel… The casting agents really f**ked up things a lot. They have their own agendas and how they communicate things to the director. As long as things were between me and Ayan, we never had a slip. When it came to the casting agents, they did a lot of favouritism," the actor added.

Titled War 2, the film brings together Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr NTR in a high-octane action entertainer that promises double the thrill. While the original was helmed by Siddharth Anand, the sequel is directed by Brahmastra filmmaker Ayan Mukerji. In a recent interview, Ayan shared his thoughts on taking the franchise forward, acknowledging the immense pressure and responsibility involved. 'It is a huge responsibility to take forward a hugely loved franchise like War and leave your mark on it,' he said. The film's biggest draw lies in the powerful face-off between Hrithik and Jr NTR. Speaking about bringing two superstars together, Ayan added, 'I have to be honest as a filmmaker and I also know the expectations that I carry with this project from fans of both stars. But I tried to be as honest as possible in giving a lifetime experience for the fans.' The director has also promised mind-blowing action sequences, calling the star showdown "immense." Actress Kiara Advani joins the cast as the female lead. Ayan Mukerji Opens Up On War 2: 'We Were Aware Of The Expectations'
The filmmaker said that everything about War 2 has been crafted with a lot of planning to elevate the theatrical experience of the audience. Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji says he sees directing the upcoming action entertainer 'War 2" as an exciting chance to honour the first instalment, which was released in 2019, while bringing his own vision to the spy universe. Ayan said: 'It is a huge responsibility to take forward a hugely loved franchise like War and leave your own mark on it. I saw directing War 2 as a relishing opportunity to give a hat-tip to the first film. You can't have fun otherwise while coming on board such a huge blockbuster franchise." The filmmaker talked about how he focussed on crafting the storyline because he wanted a conflict that was big enough to put two stars, Hrithik Roshan against NTR. 'One has to take what has been set and then make the fans of the film and the fans of these gigantic superstars of our country go on a journey that is new, that hopefully leaves them hungry for more. As a director, I have to be honest, I immersed myself into delivering this feeling." The filmmaker said that everything about War 2 has been crafted with a lot of planning to elevate the theatrical experience of the audience. 'The maximum time spent was on the action set pieces and crafting the storyline and the conflict which was needed to mount the face-off between Hrithik Roshan and NTR." Ayan calls War 2 a film that celebrates the might of Indian cinema as it brings Hrithik and NTR together for an adrenaline-pumping theatrical experience like no other. 'War 2 is truly the coming together of Indian cinema with these two huge actors joining forces. We were aware of the expectations this pairing would set in the minds of their fans and the audience and every second was spent thinking of how to give them an experience of a lifetime when they sit in the theatres." 'War 2" is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on August 14. First Published:
