Bumrah and the rest: Karthik fumes as India continue to repeat mistakes of the past
Unhappy about the use of Bumrah, Karthik said that India have got a habit of bringing the Indian speedster into the attack whenever they needed a wicket."There was too much of a void between (Bumrah) and the rest," Karthik told Cricbuzz after Saturday's play.'And you could see England also had it on the back of their minds that, 'If we play this spell, we'd have a good chance.' That's going to put pressure on the skipper because every time he's under pressure, he's going to go to Bumrah now. [But, at the same time,] he (Bumrah) has got a body that he has to take care of," he added.advertisement'In a day where there are hardly 60 overs (49) bowled, Bumrah has already bowled 13. Every time you need a wicket, it has to be Bumrah. And he always does it for you, so you get into that habit. Others need to find a way to definitely push the captain and say, 'I am ready, give me the ball, this is my plan, I want to do this'," Karthik added.BUMRAH'S WORKLOAD CONCERNSThere is merit in Karthik's argument on Jasprit Bumrah. The fast bowler overbowled himself in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as well. In that series, Bumrah played all the matches and had to walk away midway through the final Test due to a back injury. The fast bowler has already clarified that he would be playing 3 Test matches in India to take care of his body in the long run. India would need to be careful about the use of the fast bowler, given there are several high-profile competitions lined up in the near future. Not only Karthik, but former India head coach Ravi Shastri was also concerned about the fast bowler's workload after Day 2 of the 1st Test match."The concern is Bumrah and what his workload will be as the series progresses, because he is the one man who is expected to pick wickets every spell he bowls," Shastri said at the end of Day 2's play. "I just hope someone at the other end puts their hands up."Must Watch

'We've got to look at all the factors': Jasprit Bumrah's availability still in doubt for must-win Manchester Test, says India's assistant coach
India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has said that the team is considering playing Jasprit Bumrah in the must-win fourth Test against England in Manchester but a final call will be taken closer to the match. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant is expected to regain fitness ahead of the game. read more Jasprit Bumrah said before the start of the series that he will play only 3 Tests. Image: AP India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has hinted that Jasprit Bumrah is likely to play the crucial fourth Test against England in Manchester, but a final decision will only be taken right before the match, which begins on July 23. With India trailing the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-2, the team is under pressure to level the series. Call on Bumrah to be taken closer to match Speaking after India's training session in Beckenham on Thursday, Doeschate explained that several factors will influence the decision. He also stated that the team is 'leaning towards' playing Bumrah in Manchester with the series on the line. India must win the fourth Test match to stay alive in the contest. 'We'll make that call in Manchester. We know we've got him for one of the last two tests. I think it's pretty obvious the series is on the line now in Manchester, so there will be a leaning towards playing him,' Doeschate was quoted as saying by PTI. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'But again, we've got to look at all the factors. How many days of cricket are we going to get up there? What do we feel is our best chance of winning that game? And then how that fits in together with the Oval and looking at the last two games holistically as part of the series,' he added. The Indian team is slated to reach Manchester on July 19. Captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir will then take a final call on Bumrah's inclusion, most likely after consulting the bowler. Before the start of the India vs England Test series, Bumrah had said that he would only be available for three Tests due to workload management. He cited this as a reason for not taking up the captaincy after Rohit Sharma's retirement. Rishabh Pant likely to play 4th Test Meanwhile, Doeschate said that wicketkeeper-batter before the fourth Test. Pant had injured his index finger during the Lord's Test and was forced to sit out for the remainder of India's bowling innings. 'He batted with quite a lot of pain in the third test and it's only going to get easier and easier on his finger. Keeping is obviously the last part of the process to make sure that he can keep,' he said. 'We don't want to go through that again where we have to replace the keeper halfway through the innings. But he rested today. We're just trying to give him the rest as long as possible and hopefully he's good to go in Manchester in the first training session,' Doeschate added. Pant was replaced by Dhruv Jurel as keeper in both innings after his injury. However, the left-hander still came down to bat and scored a crucial 74 runs in India's first innings before getting run out by Ben Stokes. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Gambhir-Agarkar slammed for Bumrah's workload management: If fit, play all matches
Dilip Vengsarkar has voiced strong criticism against India's workload management strategy, particularly on Jasprit Bumrah's absence from the second Test against England. The former India captain and ex-chairman of selectors believes that unless a player is injured, there is no justification for voluntarily skipping a match, especially someone of Bumrah's an interview with RevSportz, Vengsarkar acknowledged Bumrah's status as a world-class bowler but expressed a firm stance against the idea of bowlers 'picking and choosing' matches. His comments come in the wake of Bumrah being rested for the second Test, despite a week-long break following the first. There also remains uncertainty regarding Bumrah's availability as well for the fourth Test in not in favour of bowlers picking and choosing Test matches. If you're fit and available, you should play all the matches for your country,' Vengsarkar said. 'Bumrah is a world-class bowler, and he can win matches for India. But once you're on tour, you need to play every match. There's no question of selecting matches based on personal preference.' Vengsarkar went on to suggest that such a policy wouldn't have been tolerated during his time at the helm, pointing out the lack of justification for Bumrah's omission from the second Test, especially with a significant break between matches.'What is important is playing for India, and if you are unfit, then don't play at all,' he said. 'He had a gap of almost 7–8 days after the first Test match, but still was not included for the second Test, which was not acceptable. Maybe it was acceptable for Agarkar and Gambhir.'Bumrah's workload and fitness management have sparked wide-ranging debates among former players and experts. Given his history with injuries, the management has been cautious about his use in multi-Test series. However, the team's performance in his absence has brought the policy under renewed inability to close out games, despite having one of the world's top fast bowlers at their disposal, has been a talking point. With Shubman Gill still adjusting to the demands of Test captaincy, Vengsarkar's comments highlight a broader concern: whether the team is optimally using its the series hangs in the balance, there's growing pressure to ensure that India's best players, like Bumrah, are consistently on the field, especially when the margin for error is so thin.- EndsTune InMust Watch
